Oh bless her. A fish stole her rod! That has to be the cutest thing I've heard. She's beautiful. Your face after she explained was worth a million dollars, but your love shone through. No raised voices, just a retrieval for her sake, so she can carry on and put it behind her. Love it. 💝

You can pull your plug out of your dinghy while on step running to drain water in dinghy. While driving dinghy around will drain all water. Bayou tip from your admiring Cajun.

I would have one of the fencing all the way around the boat just in case one of the dogs would lose their balance. The question is who benefits the most from having the dogs aboard for a passage? Proper English is not necessary when conversing via messaging.

I think the wire was stretched above the spreaders to discourage birds from landing on the spreaders. If you are a bird it is a excellent place to take a poop from

Your skin loves you for taking good care of it! I wear long sleeved shirts all the time and that is one of the reasons. As for the boatswain's chair harness it is so much more comfortable as a working platform and long duration jobs. I know because I've been a professional arborist for over 13yrs and love my working harness. I am also a sailor and in the future hope to be a commercial airline pilot. Those are some of the reasons why I enjoy your channel so much. On top of the common interests you two also have so much excitement for living and adventuring that it makes the episodes fun to watch. Keep up the good work. 👍

I’m jumping ahead (just for a second) from episode 28 in the middle of my binge to suggest an audiobook. In my youth, *Jonathan Livingston Seagull* was THE book for all free spirits. Unfortunately, also in my youth, few free spirits worked as hard as you two have. Anyway, the book is about unrealistic dreams. I think you would like it. I’m sorry I don’t have a narration recommendation. Now, back to the binge.

Thanks for another great episode, and for allowing us to live your adventure with you vicariously! I've been following you guys for quite a while, and when you were doing your last minute preparations to leave Rhode Island, you were anchored quite close to my house on the Kickemuit River in Bristol (unfortunately, I didn't realize you were there until you had left, so I missed the chance to say hi). I have to say that as a lifelong sailor, I've been consistently impressed with the way you guys have learned what you need to know as you go - bravo! That said, as an ex-rigger who has been up a lot of masts, I have two small and respectful suggestions to offer: 1) When you order your new sails, it might be worth it to ask your sailmaker about using the type of thread which is more resistant to UV degradation where they can (since the stitching usually fails before the surrounding cloth). It's often used to stitch UV cover on a roller furling headsail, and I think it's a little more expensive, but especially in the Caribbean (and other very sunny and salty parts of the world), UV damage is an issue, and the longevity may be worth the extra cost. 2) When someone is up a rig with only one person on deck available to control the halyard that keeps them aloft and safe, it's good practice to let them down by easing the halyard into the winch as smoothly as possible with your left hand, but while remaining close enough to the winch to keep your right hand loosely covering the wraps around the winch, instead of feeding the line from a distance. That way, if you stumble, slip, or drop the tail of the line some other way (easier than you might think), you simply close your right hand's grip on the winch drum and it should act as a brake until you get the tail back in your left hand, and reduce the risk of a fall from up the rig (this can also allow fewer wraps on the winch, which can lead to a smoother descent for the person aloft). Of course, (as it looks like you did), it's a good idea to make sure the halyard is well flaked and free of potential kinks or snags before you begin the descent. BTW, I agree with Paul Magnin that the wire is an anti-seabird device, and when you're in an anchorage with gulls or especially cormorants nearby, it will deter them from roosting on your spreaders and significantly reduce the amount of guano you have to clean up off your spreaders and deck. Thanks again, and well done!

I am guessing same thread is used throughout the entire sail. If Jade was able rip it off as easily as she did and had every stich break up by pulling on it with one hand while she is up on the mast that esily, the rest of the threads that stich pieces of the sail cloth has to be suspect. You guys said you were contemplating new sails, depending on your time table I would inspect that sail carefully because if UV and age made that piece Jade ripped off the sail that brittle the rest of the sail stiching can easily rip off under heavy sailing.

It would have been a lot simpler (and safer) to have pulled the main all the way out on the outhaul, and then lowered the main with the halyard, taking it out of the mast slot, flaking it on the deck, and then working on the sail while sitting on the deck. No bosun's chair numbness and no time pressure to get it done. You could actually have stitched the batten pocket back on. The original thread holes make it easy to push the needle through the sail + pocket combo.
