I studied a creator who went all-in on A.I. content. The impact on his channel was…. shocking.

What did he do wrong? He bought into the idea that AI generated content is a replacement for genuine human effort and interactions. Most people can se through the scam of having a computer generate videos by the thousands, with zero effort on part of the channel owner. Imagine a yacht race with real world sailboats. Yet with the human crews having been replaced with AI driven machinery to sail the competing sailboats through automation. Who would watch such a competition? Almost nobody. Might as well watch two inert rocks compete in the 100 m dash (the competition may drag on a bit...). It is the same thing with AI generated content of all forms. We humans cannot mirror ourselves in the creators, when we know there is none. KZbin knows this as well. Last year a flood of AI generated channels sprung up, and back then I watched a few videos, then realized this was pointless content. Now the YT algorithm appears to identify and _heavily_ suppress any such video. Because the YT staff knows that we, the audience, looses all interest once we catch on to the automation.

I dunno about the suppression thing. I get oodles and oodles of fake science and documentary channels in my recommended pretty much daily. I watch mostly real science and nature documentaries from legitimate sources (and these guys recently as I'm making a go at my own channel and this is a great resource) and the algorithm tries to shove all this fake science attention-retention crap video mess down my throat.

Hi Nathan 😊 For newer creators like myself he really is a cautionary tale. My husband asked me the other day why I'm not interested in getting into AI content (if only for scripts) and I've tried to explain that it takes the soul out of the content. I know AI has its place in the world, but maybe not on youtube or content platforms which are built around the audience experience.
@ChannelMakers

It is a good question to ask yourself. When I use A.I in creative processes, I try and ask myself if it is adding to the value of the content, or taking away. If you can find ways it improves your content, that is great, but it is good to be careful so the soul isn't sucked from your videos. :) - Nathan

@@ChannelMakersIt's possible, but probably not. The main reason it can never match personal interaction is because as humans we pick up facial cues from each other that are based on emotion. An AI can only emulate what it thinks the emotional response should be, but it can never feel it. Therefore, it will always feel a little off to the viewers.

how does this anecdote equate to "AI is a scam" tho?? it isn't.. your vid makes zero sense.. pivoting is essential.. and.. if homie is developing an AI technology on which he can capitalize.. what difference does the status of his youtube channel make?? I mean.. innovation and making moves is what advancement is all about.. if he's done youtube for a decade and was this successful?? it's a PEEFECT time to move his talents and skills to another level.. are you seriously suggesting that youtube is a lifetime career choice?? come on now.. humans are fickle.. entertainers and influencers need to constantly reinvent themselves to be relevant.. in order to STAY in the game.. you gotta take chances and make moves.. I don't understand the relevancy of this vid.. youtube stars shine BRIGHTLY for their moment.. then.. they fizzle out.. where's Jeffery Star? what happened to allllllllllllllllll those beauty influencers from just TWO years ago?? not everyone can be Mr Beast.. they gotta enjoy it while they can and maneuver so when the dust settles.. they're not stuck.. broke and back at a regular 9 to 5

Yes creators need to reinvent themselves and constantly improve, but to say a shift to an AI format like this is good is ridiculous. A lifeless robot will never overtake the personality of a real person. It's YOU-Tube, not ai-tube. And speaking of pivoting, this man has ruined his legacy with this AI stuff so I don't know how far he could really get after this.

The thumbnail was meant to convey the sentiment that A.I. might seem like the perfect fix for everything, when in the case of Kwebblekop's channel, the A.I. videos ended up being far less successful (In terms of views) than his older content. AI only killed the channel in so much as that's not what most of the audience signed up for. You could make the argument that the audience is simply adjusting to demand for AI style content which, at this time, is a pretty niche audience. An AI channel done well with attention to the audience could do well so long as that's what people signed up for.

You should be against AI, or at least what's being pushed as AI. The process steals from artists, creates content more mediocre than a room full of television producers, and adversely affects the climate. And, as I hinted, it's a misnomer. It's not artificial intelligence, but a collection of poorly written algorithms.
