I really hope that generative AI can battle the trend of increasing development costs / increasing development time and broken releases in the triple A gaming scene. If AI can make developers work more efficient and battle crunch, it can go a long ways and in the end there needs to be some manual oversight to what code the AI spits out. The only worry I have with using LLM in RPG's is that the game will behave in unintended ways, which would make it really hard to design the game around if you give NPC's a black box on what type of dialogue they can respond with. You would basically need an AI system to check if the output is desired and that system would be close to an AGI system.

AI will be more of a benefit than a detriment. While the major AAA companies will use AI to replace workers and create more aggravating Microtransactions (EA and Ubisoft), indie and AA studios staffed by those laid off developers will use AI to do the heavy lifting to make worthwhile experiences that can rival the assembly line cash grabs.

That would be cool, but eventually u will never win against it ever again. Valve have tried AI out on DOTA2. It started out bad, eventually it started beating actual DOTA 2 Proplayers. It would be unbeatable sooner or later

Welllll. You overhype this. First - ChatGPT need a Internet connection to acess database. Without Internet we already have story generators games like Dwarf Fortress.

It needs access to a model which could be local to the game (highly doubtful due to size) or the console similar to translation models in phones. Microsoft has invested heavily into OpenAI, so it's not unreasonable something like that could be opened as a console-level API for any game to use. However, I do think an internet connection will be required to get NPCs to have dynamic conversations initially. Yeah, it's a blocker for those who play offline, but most games these days sadly already require an internet connection. I won't make sense for all games of course, but if someone can figure out the pipeline to make this work it could be incredibly immersive.

It also depends what laws governments brings to regulate AI. For instance, I believe if a company is using data like video or voice or some actor to create content using AI. That conpany need to pay those people. Also I think there will be more jobs related providing the training data and more importantly ensuring that those data doesn't have any violent or racist content. With AI, I feel we are experiencing the migration from Horse transportation into auto-vehicles. We feel this innovation is taking jobs away but who knows in future we might have more jobs than today.
