JJ was attacked by 5 pit bulls and left near death when he was 22 months old. After miraculously surviving, he was left with severe disabilities and scarring. His life is now different than it was before the attack, but JJ and his family feel blessed that he is still alive.

I work with pitbulls. They're all muscle and have a high prey drive. There is NOTHING JJ's sisters could have done - once those dogs focused on JJ, that was it. Their father is right, they would have only been injured trying stop the attack. Too many pitbulls are owned by people who have no business owning them. They are NOT beginner dogs and they are NOT nanny dogs. The owner sounds like he shouldn't have had one, let alone five. It's a true miracle and blessing JJ is alive. The world is brighter with him still in it.

As a clinical psychotherapist, I watched the JJ story in amazement. This family is phenomenal in their resilience, devotion, and strength. JJ reflects the family dynamic of working together through challenges no matter what. His joy mirrors his family's heart and the love surrounding him. His sister's feelings of guilt come from wanting to protect their baby brother but simply being unable to and hopefully will subside with time. Their feelings simply come from a place of love for JJ and in some way thinking they might have been able to do something when reality was they could not. Those feelings are part of the thread of love that binds this family together. It is a powerful fierce force that has enabled JJ to thrive and to become the feisty, confident,, fun, strong little man he is today.

I know; that brought tears to my eyes too! It's like, just celebrating the small things that JJ is HERE to eat the chip... He made me think of a little neighbor girl, a toddler, whose family dog, a pitbull, bit her in the face not once, but twice before they got rid of him/put him down, and that after they swore up and down he'd never hurt anyone or anything... I'm totally bias here, but I feel glad that if I had to fall in love with any breed, I'm so glad it ended up being standard poodles... A pitbull could be the best-trained dog in the world, and I'd still be very wary because it seems like toddlers/small children, especially, are easy pickings for them, even in their own family.

What a beautiful family! Everyone has obviously been affected by what happened, but they are able to talk about it and be forthright with emotions. The fact that the mom was willing to homeschool for two years so the girls could recover shows how devoted they are to healing as a family. They were NOT neglectful; the little boy was supervised by a sibling old enough to babysit, and no one, not even an adult (other than the dog owner), could have done anything to prevent an attack by five dogs at once. At the end of the video, the dad says that people should choose their dogs carefully, but he doesn't appear to be consumed with bitterness. The spunk and sweetness of this child is truly a testament to the love and dedication of the whole family, especially the parents.

People need to realize, it doesn't matter if you aren't abusing pitbulls. They have territorial/fighting instincts that can happen at any moment even if they are "harmless" or "big babies". I have seen a few well taken care of pitbulls attack someone before. Given the right circumstances, they can turn aggressive and it pisses me off when ignorant pit owners act as if their dog "would never harm a fly"🙄. When they are in groups especially, they act as a pack and if one attacks, *they ALL attack* . You can never be 100% sure and since I've had my son, i don't allow him around any known aggressive breeds, alone or even near them. Being safe is better than being oblivious.

@@Just.Stacey27 Do you even know the full context of the pitbulls you were around? Their full history? How their owners treated them? If their body language was misread? Now I am not telling you to get a pitbull cause that's not my point but pitbulls have been victims of a vast amount of misinformation, myths and lies such as being "genetically predisposed" to aggression which they are not (in fact they have great temperaments). Plus pitbull attack stories and statistics can be inflated due to misidentification. The few personal experiences you have witnessed do not represent the breeds (as pitbulls in case multiple breeds) entire character. There are no bad dogs only bad owners who should be held accountable for their training (as due to the stigma surrounding pitbulls some human trashbags will raise them to be that way) I am leaving this comment not to belittle or insult you. The video of JJ when he reaches out for the therapy dog in the hospital, gets me every single time! I came out of the womb loving all animals. I still do. I can’t imagine being attacked by what I only ever associated with as love and joy. Pitbulls need to be phased out. I love all dogs, even pitbulls, they are deserving of love. Which is why we need to stop creating them. It is cruel to keep bringing more and more pitbulls into the world when they simply aren’t compatible with society anymore.

I agree. People get so mad at the idea but we're not saying to cull existing animals. Let them live their lives to the end in happy, loving homes. But stop breeding them so that in a generation or two, there won't be any more.

100% and I'm tired of pitbull apologists pretending that they're just like any other dog or are even "nanny dogs". So careless!

JJ is a fabulous spirit - an amazing boy. I don't see a scared face, I see a cute little boy with bright eyes. I just don't see the scars, which surprises me alot.

The trauma is so on their faces. I feel so bad for them. The guilt factor is so real yet you couldn’t have stopped those dogs unless you had a gun right there waiting. I’m so sad for little JJ, although I pray that his attitude and positivity stays with him all his life. I am amazed at his parents, their love and strength will get him through everything. JJ’s siblings feelings are so real and the trauma is so real for them. Survivors guilt is the hardest to shift. They deserve to get over this, I hope they do as it’s the last thing JJ wants. I truly wish them all the very best for their sutures.

This poor child. And yet, in a lot of ways he is 'richer' than most people. He seems like he already has more sense of self awareness than most adults do. And despite the trauma he endured he is extremely positive and still has that carefree innocence of a child. The parents, and this child are both so much stronger than most. Absolutely beautiful family, heart wrenching circumstances.

Please girls. Don't feel guilty. You could NOT have done anything to prevent this. Like your dad said, you guys would have been attacked too. You guys are an amazing family unit!

I would imagine it's hard not to feel guilty especially when I have seen numerous comments victim blaming and trying to say this was their fault

The incredible strength of this couple is amazing. The father’s ability to put his son’s life before all else was exemplary! What a wonderful, strong, loving family. They deserve all that is good in life.
