I know men can love women, but can women love their men back? I don't think so, it doesn't look like they can. Women are very egoistic, you don't see women sacrificing themselves for men, actually they argue that we should sacrifice ouselves for them. We would do that if we were receiving love in return, but all we get from them is hate! Women are drunk with power, they want to rule over men, but that won't happen because Jesus Christ is a man, He's a MAN, he has a pen** and not a vagi**! Good luck!

The world today is a bad place for relationships because people have so many partners that it gets to a point where is very disgusting to go out with a chick or a guy because they probably had like countless partners before you. So when a man finds a girl who ir still a virgin it's like winning in the lottery! I guess the same apllies to women, when they find a nice guy it is like winning in the lottery. This scene is directly coming from middle age novels, with noble women asking the beloved knight to accept humiliation (being exposed in a cart), pain (walking on the edge of a sword as a bridge), humility (competing anonymously in tournament) as proof of unquestioning love. Although unrealistic, they were deep ingrained in noble minds for centuries, to the point that some knights of 14th century, long after the mythical time of chivalry, spent a winter night in shirt outside the castle of their beloved - and fell deadly sick in the process.

I mean technically speaking Jocelyn asked him to "lose" she didn't say how many rounds or matches he needed to lose specifically. The first hit demonstrated his willingness to lose for her, and seemed to satisfy her right away so Will could have continued on as usual and everyone would have been happy. The fact that Jocelyn sent Christiana after god knows how many rounds and hits means she could have sent her to tell Will she was satisfied with his devotion pretty much any time she wanted, but let him take major punishment. I understand she was in her feelings about just how much Will/Ulrich loves her or just sees her as another prize to win, which is a valid concern, since she doesn't know yet that Ulrich is just a genuine Thatcher's son who wants to be a knight. But at the same time, what use is a devoted lover who is crippled, maimed, or otherwise paralyzed for this devotion? A simple signal from Jocelyn saying "hey, that's enough I'm satisfied" would have saved Will a whole lot of trouble. Bottom line, acts of devotion for love are all well good, but proper communication and understanding are even better.
@sandrols7
@sandrols7 Жыл бұрын
If proper communication and understanding were involved, they wouldn't even have been in that situation. Will would have earlier been able to communicate just how he felt about her and how serious he was, but also that the tournament mattered to him also. But hey, healthy communications aren't what make plots in movies happen.

In the movie it's stated that despite Will losing, none of the other contenders were able to win enough matches to distance themselves from the rest of the field, so Will was able to catch up and win the tournament by going undefeated the rest of the way and got a little good luck with a few upsets with the other competing knights.

@@Beuwen_The_Dragon It isn't required to unhorse your opponent to win. Scoring more points in the bouts will also make a victory. I DO love how Princess Jocelyn tells William that to prove his love for her, he must lose the tournament and he allows himself to be struck by the lance a total of thirteen times (by my count) to prove himself worthy of her heart. William also shows his honor when he chooses to challenge Prince Edward at the joust (EVEN KNOWING that he's the future king). He allowed the prince to keep his dignity, and in the end, Prince Edward repays this noble deed by sparing William's life and telling everyone that William WAS of noble birth. Will shows honor and love to his father when he remembers his father's words to him from his childhood....that a man CAN change his stars. Although he is a humble thatcher, William's actions throughout the movie (to his father, to Edward, to Jocelyn, to his friends) shows that he is truly a man of honor.

Jocelyn was a pretty bland character, but making her go full narcissistic psycho and acting like it was "romantic" kinda killed the vibe of the movie for me. She's told men sometimes die in jousts and she demands this? In her own words, her idea of love is Will showing his "obedience" to her. By risking maiming or death, and being left economically destitute. Like a wise troubadour once said "Chase a ransom, never chase a harlot"

If ever there was a reason for men not to get too entangled with a woman, this video is it. Proving your love by selfless and caring acts is one thing, but being a door mat for punishment to "prove" something to a woman is nigh stupid. This scene fits more in a horror movie than a romantic interlude.

People are forgetting that Jocelyn only asked Will to loose after he proclaimed that he would win the tournament for her. Jocelyn doesn’t care about Will being a jousting champion, she loves him regardless (further illustrated when she’s willing to leave her noble status behind and go live in poverty just to stay with him after he’s found out) She asks him to loose because it will prove that he’s willing to set aside material wealth, status and glory in favour of her affections. It would be easy for Will to win the tournament for her and he’d be risking nothing. Jocelyn has plenty of men claiming/willing to win the tournament for her and it doesn’t impress her because she’s knows deep down that they are truly winning for themselves and their own ego while seeing her as a prize for their winning. Her asking Will to loose is a test of his ego and overall values. So Will conceding and losing the match is actually a really romantic act on his part as it’s him showing that he values her request and love over his own glorification. As for why she let him take so much damage, well that’s because this is a movie and they wanted to have a funny montage of Heath Ledger getting knocked off a horse while the comic relief side characters spewed funny one liners.

Real man dont do this. Only simps. If your woman ever ask you to lose to prove your love, she is just flattering her ego and she doesnt deserve you anyway. In the movie looks cool tough, no matter how unrealistic is the losing part. People often got injured on these events, imagine not even protecting yourself. No, armor does not there to negate the impact. In real life he would have had multiple inner bleeding, and probably death after a few times. Jousting was dangerous that is why it was viewed in peace time as a test of Knights.

This is mental and shouldn't be in a film other than to display what an abusive relationship with someone that has an antisocial personality disorder looks like as a cautionary tale. Does it happen frequently? Yes. However, it's disgusting and on par with a tale of him beating her physically because he loves her so much that he's willing to do what it takes to keep her in line. The writers should be ashamed of themselves.

Jocelyn is such a bland, boring character. What exactly does she bring to the film other than being an object (of Will's affection)? Being coy is not a character trait, nor is being beautiful. Yet those two are all she is espoused to have, apart from a not-sincere devotion to the faith (who cares). At least make her interesting -- she could have been a faucet that will and the count anjou lusted after and you would not know any different to the plot. At least the blacksmith had spunk

Whether you prefer Jocelyn (for whatever reason) or her lady in waiting Christiana, I just appreciate that at one point we could have multiracial actors in a historical setting without people losing their minds one way or another.

As ever depends on the movie, I always saw a knights tale as more of a play then a historical film we could have a long discussion as to why it was a bad idea in rings of power and perfectly fine in the vikings TV series but as Rodrigo says the biggest single thing is how the film/show uses it's casting choice if it's used as a shield or a sword for political reasons it's always going to get a response from people as all politics does.
