The whole awkward silence after the first intro was actually unscripted. Most of those peasants were actually homeless Czech citizens who didn't speak english and didn't know they were supposed to cheer after Chaucer was done talking, but Roland cued them in and it looked so damn honest they left it in.

The first scene is one of my favorites especially when I found out it the response wasn't scripted. The crowd didn't speak English so they didn't know they were supposed to cheer. So the actor cheered and that let them know to cheer. And they kept it in the movie

Apparently the Czech extras didn’t understand what he was saying so Mark Addy ad libbed the YEAH part then they cheered. The director thought it was much funnier that way so he left it alone.

The crowd were supposed to chear when Paul had finished his lines on the first one, but because they were in Eastern Europe they basically didnt get it cos of translation or something, and then Mark cheered and they all got the message. They kept it in cos it was so bloody funny.

It was shot in Czech Republic I think, and the extras didn't understand what he said... Indeed at the end of the speech they stayed still because they didn't understand that the moment to cheer had come, and Bettany and Addy improvised to make people cheer... Beautiful!

I just found out that this movie was recorded in Czech Republic, and in the first introduction of Sir Ulrich nobody understand what was Paul Bettany talking about (because most people in background were from czechia), thats why they didnt knew when to react.... You can even see in 0:15 those two women in background little bit confused, when they were raising hands up but stopped xD ...... And the director of movie kept this scene anyway, because its really funny xD
