Hey everyone! I'm so excited to share the first episode of my final season of the show. It's been an incredible journey, and I'm grateful that Eater sent me to Korea to take on the motherland's best food and the people behind it all. Producing videos here is certainly an extra challenge over doing them in the U.S., but it was truly the one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. Shout out to my camera team S.K., M.W., M.F., and our guide N.C. who helped us all along the way. As for this episode, I first came to Gwangjang about ten years ago and fell in love, and it's always the place I come back to make me feel grounded in the glorious of Korean comfort food. (note, as for why we didn't eat yookhwe, a specialty of the market, we just didn't have enough time to pack it in!)

@5:29: The *Vietnamese term "bánh"* is *equivalent to the Korean "byeong" (병)* : both are from the *Chinese character "餅"* (for cake, pancake, flour-based food shaped like a wheel or disc). Even though *in Vietnamese* , it's *used very generically* for any kind of dough-based product from a pancake to a steamed cake or French baguette regardless of the actual shape.

I absolutely love that he shows these humble traditional street dishes that my late mother would feed me. Does Matthew have his own channel? I enjoy his love and energy for Korean food.

Love this. Really smart and not-cliche look at an important market. (That typically is covered with cliches). Can't wait to watch this season.

This market is the main reason why I wanna go back to Seoul and just eat here every day! 😂 I didn’t see the dumplings but I ate the most amazing thinly sliced pork and also the sweet pancake in a cup. I think its called Hotteok. It was incredible. That market is pretty huge and so much food. Hard to resist the nice ladies trying to get you to eat their food. Love this place! 😁👍🏽

Gwangjang market was the first stop my friends and I went to on our trip to S. Korea. It was the best korean comfort food I have had, I loved how it kept us warm and bellies full, we went several times during our stay. Mandoo dumplings are my favorite and the tteokboki there. definitely beats myeongdong market for me haha.

If you really want *authentic Asian food in your general part of the world* , you might have to *go all the way to North Africa! Morocco, Algeria, and Tunisia* have *countless Asian restaurants* as well as world film festivals, as there is a *general interest in Asian pop culture there.* I'm a Vietnamese guy who's dated North African women before, and currently dating an Algerian. We both have the French past in common. And the "Vietnam v. China" is exactly like the "Maghreb" v. "Mashriq" dynamic as well.

So, Netflix's "Street Food" also cover the same stuff. Which what majority of my Korean friends agree aren't street food. They are market food. "시장먹거리' as they would call it in Korea. So I'm wondering if the source that told Eater that this was street food, also told the Netflix's Street Food people.
