Whoever came forward saying “well she was trying to sleep with him” Okay and? She was a teenager, underage, and a student of his. Teenagers do dumb things, adults have the responsibility to not go along with it. If you’re a teacher and a student is trying to sleep with you, it’s on YOU not to do that, and if it does happen, it’s on you. Even if the teenager was the one trying to initiate things/also wanted it, they’re not the one in the wrong and imo it doesn’t make a difference at all.

Technically not illegal? Its definitely illegal The victim claims that the sexual encounters happened BEFORE she was 18 Talking about wether its legal or not now is not the most important part He engaged with her when she was a minor Now if no sexual interaction happen before until she did turn 18, thatd be grooming, it is still even grooming He abused his power He downplayed the age gap And he told her not to tell anyone, why? Cuz he knows its bad, and that it is in fact illegal and that he was in fact SA and grooming her - Now The other person who claims she wanted to sleep with Selby Say if thats true, that does not matter at all You can state it sure, but it doesn’t do anything He Still Engaged He was an adult She was a minor Does that mean he just gave in? As the adult? And the person with power and who does have contact with her parents who Selby couldve called and say that their daughter is being inappropriate And even if he did call her parents to say, doesnt matter, because he still did it He did not have to, ik damn well and like 99.99999999% sure that she didnt force him, and that he was given no choice He is at all fault Even if she had some.. participation (highly doubt) to enforce a sexual interaction, he is still 100% to blame It is you, as an adult, to not allow this, and he did - A lil off topic btw Just a tad For exact situations like these is why i am FULLY speaking out about putting cameras in classrooms It is absolutely ridiculous, gross, and cheap to already not be having cameras in classrooms For the safety for everyone, especially the students

As an educator I’m appalled by this behavior. I want nothing to do with kids other than to help them and hopefully pass on knowledge to them.

Yeah, I think a lot of people base their morality and ethics based on the legality of it- which is a fucked up, shallow, empty way to live. In MANY places, the age of consent is only applicable if the other party is 21 or under. He started a romantic relationship with a student BEFORE she was 18. Or they wouldn’t have been able to have sex “immediately”. He’s a predator. She’s special and “so mature for her age.” Calling a CHILD sexy. Sick. Teachers DO NOT, and will not ask for your phone number, kids. For any reason. If they do, tell someone immediately.

This has to be a thing among certain teachers. One of my English teachers from high school had the exact same MO, he would get really friendly and close with the girls in his class and other classes, and once they graduated he would seek them out. One of the girls wrote and published an “essay” on her experience and I’ll never forget it. He made her think they would be married and run away together. She kept them a secret from everyone in her life for a few years. She also began to suspect that there were others (students). She found that there wasn’t one year that went by where he wouldn’t groom one of his former students. It was all pretty shocking when it all went down. One day he was at the school teaching, next day he turned himself in to prevent being arrested during class. He was my favourite English teacher, he was very charismatic. He had everyone fooled.

There were multiple incidents where parents reported that he was dancing inappropriately with girls at prom. His last girlfriend I knew of, he started dating when she was 17 and his student. I'm 5 years older than my husband, me 26, 27 next month, and him 22. Been married 3 years. We met when we were BOTH children and our families have been close for over a decade. I did homeschool with them as well. Both of our parents were very aware, as well as everyone close to us. 95% of our dates were at his parent's house or my parent's house, by MY choice. To me, age gaps where one party is age of consent or older, if the older person wasn't an adult at the time of meeting the child, is a lot more acceptable than 1) being in authority over them 2) meeting as adult and child rather than child and child, and 3) hiding from everyone because you know/feel that it is wrong. If you have to hide it, what are your intentions or motives? I always went for older men and endured so much trauma. With my husband, not only has he grown, but so have I. My relationship with my mother has also improved because of how I'm able to communicate with her, due to my growth. Overall, how did the parties meet and what is the intentions of the older individual. Why am I putting myself at risk for others to still be upset? Because I'm not hiding it. Why would I? I've been groomed from 3-17 so I was very aware of my actions, intentions, and motives. I'm also sharing this to show the difference between meeting as two children and fostering a deep childhood friendship versus meeting as Adult teacher and child student.
