Hi Scott, I'm a total noobie,53 yr old man, but have been watching your channel for a few months now. First, Thank You, for all the hard work you put in to your videos. It's hard enough to do that job, without having to be a great educator, and videographer too! I've learned a great deal from ya, and just wanted to say Thank you, You've taught this ol dog a lot, and inspired me to hunt on the Ohio where I grew up. Keep it up, and let us know if you need/want any help with anything...Daron

What an awesome day you had! The old boys didn't have bed posts to notch so I think they used their gorgets instead! DOH! I agree the banded slate piece is most likely a banner stone although I have seen a few examples of pipes made from banded slate. I've found a number of knapped slate arrowheads and blades over the years here in Virginia, they are typically very crude.

I live in a river in Michigan. I have found similar stones in the water near the shore, with holes drilled in them. I believe they were used to weight the nets for catching fish. Either gill nets or casting nets.

Going back to one of your other video's where you used big rock to push artifacts up I've always wanted to make /built a portable vibrator to run off gen and attach air compressor as well to push targets thru slurry but I haven't taken the time to do it so if you can go for it because it would work same principle as big stone with less labor and it would be much faster

knapped slate pretty cool they used what they had .I got my arm healed to a point that I could drive and had a weird find as well made of a hard lime stone everyone saws it looks like a turtle shell 1in thick about 6in oval all edges knapped .anyone found anything like that???? Also found a crude uniface redish pink flint hand ax a few feet away .would love to share picture

James Auld What’s up James I actually have a triangular shaped artifact its fossilized bone? It’s ground on one side to shape it you can see meat on the underside I worked for local school Corp and we sent it to USI southern IN and its prehistoric plate from some animal probably from glacier ?? Cool stuff good luck 👍
@jamesauld58644 жыл бұрын
what I found is not a fossil it is riverstone knapped it is not sharp, but does resemble a turtle shell the way it is knapped top bottom and edges all worked.it might have had sharper edges it was in a creek I was wondering anyone had found anything like that.I have pictures I can post
@eddielile71774 жыл бұрын
James Auld I got ya I don’t know what that is there are a lot of artifacts that we may never know what it’s purpose was even mass finds such as banners and discoidals my find is a digging tool! Stay safe and be careful man this stuff is addictive 👍

I’m assuming that flint was a valuable commodity, so with that in mind I see you find items (not flint) of poor quality that have been knapped. My thoughts that maybe these were for the novices to practice on before moving on to flint. Just a thought.

I lived close to Miami Ohio- the Miami Indians were indigenous here. Anyway, I started looking for arrowhead in XI’s creek! Never found any?? So, but I’ve found so many tools and get this , I found a mothers stone?? Read about it in a book on these things. The stone is not from the area and it was just like the one from the book. I took pics and sent off to Ohio state in one of the department’s on ancient artifacts!! The young assistant said that all the tools are natural??? Bone head. I know from watching and reading that that they are tools. Had one with a drill hole. Just like you have in this video!! It wasn’t a hard stone but sand stone I think. Anyway fyi
