Johns makes the emotional transitions so necessary to the lyric, so clear, in a way no other singer does, and it finally makes the lyric make sense. I saw Bartlett in the national touring company, with Len Cariou, which was marvelous, but with a dimmer Julie Wilson replacing Johns. Bartlett is pure magic!

Its a great shame that no top-quality films are made for later years and fans to see how good those shows and their stars did the shows on stage, we can't all go and see them

The do pro-shot videos of every Broadway show from 1975 to now, but it's kept at NY Library of Performing Arts in Lincoln Center. You have to fill out a form and just pretend you're studying a role and they'll let u see them.

Desiree Armfeldt and Winifred Banks are the signature roles of Glynis Johns. No other actress could have played either role. And she is still alive at 99; she will be 100 this October! I hope she will be another Olivia de Havilland.

I saw an interview with her as she reached 100 and she seemed old but fine. Sadly, we lost her today. I wish we had better visual copies of her performance, which is stunning. There is one with Cariou on KZbin, but it is at least as blurry as this. Not the same sort of technology back then as we have today.
