hi, wonderful people! i suffered from derealization in the beginning of this year, and it has been, well, awful. so i know how you are feeling right now, and i want to try and help you first, don't read about it. don't do researchers, don't think about it too much, don't give it a lot of importance. as dodie said in one video, it could help you if you try to, just, acknowledge your bad thoughts, but not to give them power over you. like, "hi, bad thought. i see you there, but i don't want you right now". and by this i mean of thoughts like "nothing is real. all this is a lie. you will feel this way forever...". what i'm trying to say is: be gentle with yourself. don't torture yourself, or make yourself suffer by reading articles about derealization/depersonalization second, tell someone about it. if your family or close friends don't understand (which would be totally normal - my mum thought that my love for action, sci-fi movies was what made me feel detached from life), look for a doctor. talking to a psychologist would definitely help you! don't hold pain in yourself, it can be pretty hard that way third, try to use your senses more. take an object, hold it in your hands and describe it to yourself. is it sharp? is it soft? is it cold? or warm? how does it feel? sit, breathe, and make a list. write down a few things that you can see. write down what you hear, and what you smell in this moment. concentrate on feelings. it's called mindfulness fourth, breathe. i already mentioned it, but it really is an important thing. there's one breathing tactic that always helps me feel present: 4-7-8. breathe in for 4 seconds, hold on for 7, and slowly breathe out for 8. it's gonna be okay fifth, do something. anything. do your homework, or some housework, or go through old photo albums and try to organize them. play a sport, or even just strech a little. physical activity is very very important, since it helps your brain produce seratonin, a hormone that makes you feel happy (or, just, happier) sixth, draw your attention away from the bad thoughts by doing the things you love. listen to music, draw, spend time with funny people, go on a small trip. i know that it can be hard to concentrate when it feels like someone is screaming at you that life is fake, but please just try seventh, get a rest. let it be a priority. some people, who sleep for just a few hours every night, start to feel dr/dp exactly because of that. your body and your brain need to have a time to have breaks lastly, never lose hope. a month after my derealization faded away, i had one absolutely amazing day. i felt like 100% of my being is pure joy. and when i realized that, and then remembered every time i thought i will never feel that amount of happiness again, i understood how worth it was to live through all of that probably the most important thing is to remember that you will be alright, and that everything you're feeling is normal, and valid. it can sound silly or confusing to someone who never experienced it, but believe me, it's absolutely okay to feel like your body is on autopilot. when i look back now, i can remember the amount of pain i felt, and how awful it was, but it's behind me. i can even joke and laugh about it. and you will do that one day, too. if everything around you feels somehow weird or unfamiliar or scary, or everything at once, you're not alone, and you will be okay soon. have a lovely day❤💙💛💜

MY PAIN CAN BE USED TO CREATE ART I LOVE THAT. I was explaining that to one of my best friends last night because I felt depressed. I told her that it was a good day but when I got home I fell back into that headspace which has been on and off for a while. I told her I was sitting in bed and I felt like I didnt want to get up or do anything yet I still felt the need to create. That at a time where I feel like shit I still feel the need to make beautiful things. That all of my feelings or perhaps the lack of feelings that I was feeling could all be put into something that I would be proud of. That in all of this pain I can still create something worth appreciating. Thank you dodie for reminding me of that, it's important. ♡♡♡

Dodie, I just wanted to thank you for your videos. They have helped me tremendously. Even though you’re only 23, you’re wise beyond your years, certainly more than I was at that age. I have pretty much self diagnosed myself as having depersonalization/derealization. When I saw your video talking about your battle with it, I began researching the topic and found a video on a channel called Psych2Go that describes it perfectly. Thinking back on my childhood, I think I’ve had this condition since I was a child, thus leading to my issues with depression and anxiety which I’ve been dealing with probably since then. Thanks for the recommendation of 5-HTP for anxiety. I just started trying it and so far it seems to help somewhat. My eyes are hazel, too, btw.🙂 Keep making music and vlogging. You are helping me and I’m sure thousand of others that suffer with mental health issues. I sincerely thank you.

I love your tattoos and the meaning behind them. I also have derealization and anxiety and I feel like have little reminders written on my arm really helps. This video made my day :)

it's cool to watch back her videos since now i can point out the little bits she stuck in there to make the scrapbook sort of version of arms unfolding

DODIE don’t do this stuff while brushing your teeth if you fell you could easily choke on your toothbrush and that is a danger that can easily be avoided

I started watching you every day. I wanted to say that even if don't read this that, I'm so happy that I found your videos. It makes me feel better that I'm not the only one who feels the way I do. You have really helped me and inspire me, and for that thank you. I do wish someday I would get to meet you!
