A Load Of RUBBISH! - Walking From Newton Beach Porthcawl To Ogmore

Walking from Newton Beach Porthcawl to Merthyr Mawr Sand Dunes and the River Ogmore, South Wales.
This video is a bit of a rant. We couldn’t get over the amount of rubbish along the shoreline and it gets worse as you approach the river.
Plastics, cans and bottles were the main issue, and quite a few shoes!
And Glens Vodka seems a popular choice in the Bridgend area.
Prime, Monster and Red Bull cans washed up. Probably not the cool image these companies want to portray.
We even find an Alien’s RayGun!
On the walk along the beach, we pass the Robinson Crusoe shack which is actually marked on Google Maps.

If there is one thing that mankind will regret, it's the development of plastics. Until recently i have been a regular dog walker, and the stuff is everywhere. The debris fields of rubbish left by the river Taff , they have to be seen to be believed, and the only people removing it on any scale seem to be volunteers. Cardiff Rivers Group have conducted some clean ups of the Ogmore, between Ogmore castle and the beach, so many tyres being pulled out of the water, so a shout out to Dave King and all the volunteers in CRG who do a great job.

Yes, there a lot of hardworking volunteer groups. Although, it is disheartening because once you do a patch it doesn't take long to build up again.

We had oil in the beach where I grew up a couple times. Awful. But they pump it from the platforms, and it leaks sometimes on it's way to the docks. The worst I saw it stuck to my arms in the water.

I was in Berlin a few years ago, and they have a plastic bottle refund system which is automated. You drop the bottle into a machine at the entrance of a supermarket and you get a voucher to use in store

I've walked part of this, then cut in to find the remains of the Old Military firing ranges, then walked up to Bridgend following paths near the Ogmore River. Good 15k stroll 👍🥾

Excellent video. Looks like a beautiful beach if only people wouldn't leave rubbish lieing about. Rubbish is terrible for wildlife. Glad you are highlighting this.

I picked up a few bottles while following your route over Newton Ridge a few months back… can honestly say I’ve never left litter behind in my life. Where do people get the idea to do that from?!

It's even worse if you go down to the other side of Sker beach where the steel works is, proper disgusting. I Wish that people would get as angry over litter as they do over 20mphg signs!

loved your video thanks for pointing it out to people all the rubbish on the beach id does make you seethe seeing all that rubbish i usually go around my local park in merthyr with a carrier bag picking up rubbish on my walks then putting it in the recycling bins around the park every little helps but unfortunetly theres loads of cans and bottles in the ponds which i cant get at

been fishing at Swansea dock a lot lately and if it's raining heavily we have to swap sides because the rubbish flowing out of the Tawe is insane. The beach ext to the dock is no better on a hot day, people leave all kinds of nasty unspeakable things there and sometimes they literally leave piles of it.

Rant moment for me to Some People are discussing leaving rubbish to get washed by the sea and if there was such a thing as getting money back for rubbish we know if money involved they fetch recycling from their home and pretend they picked from beach that's the sort of society we live in now I'm afraid rant over Marcus great video as always and Im coming down to porthcawl shortly have a good day

Pink bay was the same the other week when I was down there, I remember sitting in on my child’s talk in school recycling and plastic waste and how it gets onto our coastline, most of the plastic that is found on beaches is being washed from surrounding villages through our river systems into the sea then it ends up on the coastline, Sad really. Council could do more to educate and provide proper recycling bags, as you know a bit of wind and the recycling bags are blown all over our streets. I also noticed Mr Apsee holding a throw away vape, maybe he should switch to a reusable, throw away vapes are having a huge impact on our environment, the sooner they are band the better.

Don't worry, we do keep on about the menace of disposable vapes. At least he does return his. We pick up quite a lot on the beach cleans.

Hi mate 👊 I am foreigner from 2006 and I am part of the community's around 😉. Still living in the Pyle and I am very enjoying, but obviously as you show it is disappointing. But we're having small group dectectorists in the county, meaby let's do something else together. I mean let's go back to the beach and show people how the ground looks like after pic up just surfaces rubbish 😉👊

Hi, we currently do a rubbish pickup (usually on Coney Beach, Porthcawl) with a group called Captain Paul Watson Foundation. It's usually on Sundays.

Looks like you will have to carry a "grabber" and a black bag on a hoop, with you next time when you go walking along the beach? ( I have done occaisonally up north, when summer day trippers left a mess, but not too often, I try to let others do their bit as well?) but yours mess looks like it comes from the sea from "anywhere" so removal by volunteers is a must.

I surfed Sker last week and felt the same. I make it a point to always take some plastic waste from wherever I go be it mountain or beach. Leave it better than I find it. We humans have created a terrible problem. Don't get me started on those that throw it as they walk. Plenty of those about sadly. On a positive note I love the videos. Thanks 🙂

They say the wobbles are making a comeback they have heard about all this litter,your a wombler at heart,shocking beach plastic the worst😮Robinson crusoe on Disney a new film out now still surprisingly popular ,wonder how they will take the wombles returning hopping mad about litter they were😮like your new toy blaster ,Marcus don’t use it in anger .😊the kindergarten children remember taking the bottles back for money and you used to get paid for aluminium tins.
