Superb Session at Newton Beach - Porthcawl Sea Fishing!

South Wales Sea Fishing at Newton in Porthcawl. Join me as I venture down to Newton Point Beach, one of my favourite Porthcawl Sea Fishing marks. I spent a lot of time down here as a kid and so this session brought back lots of good memories...a very enjoyable morning! Can I catch a Small Eyed Ray at this popular South Wales Ray Fishing mark??

Great video, I used to fish the breakwater near there and got some nice fish but never tried any of the beaches. Looks like I'll have to give them a try.

Another cracking video Gareth. My Nan lived in Porthcawl and I went down most weekends. Never really fished anything but the lighthouse by the lifeboat station. You’ve, once again, broadened my horizons. I thought that Newton was for dog walkers and windsurfers. You’ve changed by ideas totally. Can’t wait to get down there. Keep ‘em coming !

Nice to hear from you again mate and thanks for the comment, much appreciated. I'm glad you found the video useful and hopefully you can now give this beach a go. I suspect that in the summer months during holiday season it can get busy there but when I fished it last week, it was nice and quiet, few dog walkers and a swimmer further up but that was it. And even if it did get busy, you just keep walking to your left, past the rougher ground and back onto the sand where it merges with Merthyr Mawr beach. Cheers 👍👍

Hiya mate, fishing this mark Sunday morning with just the one rod unsure of what rig and size hooks to use looking to target some cod however would be happy with multiple types of fish. If you have any helpful information on the mark that would be great. Cheers boss love the content ❤️🙌

Hi Thomas, if fishing one rod then I suggest you fish fish a two hook flapper rig with size 2/0 hooks and also a pulley pennel rig with size 4/0 hooks. The flapper rig will give you more options and you can pick up all sorts on that, such as Whiting, Codling, Pouting, Flatfish etc. The pulley pennel rig will be better for Ray, Conger, Bigger Bass and Cod, so maybe just switch the rigs every cast to increase your chances of a mixed bag. I've got a video going on tonight...I'm at Merthyr Mawr beach which is just to the left of Newton Beach (park in same place but walk to your left) and I show some rigs on screen which you may find useful. As a beginner i spotted that one rod faced the other way is there any reason for setting up two different ways ?

The rod that has the guides facing upwards has a multiplier reel on it and by having the rod facing that way saves you having to turn it around when striking into a bite. No need to do that though if using a fixed spool reel. Cheers 👍👍

Cheers Dale, appreciate the comments as always. It was a very enjoyable morning in fairness. I fished one rod close in at around 50 yards and the multiplier rod was out at around 100 yards I guess. Most fish I catch tend to be fairly close in. Sorry to hear that the fishing wasn't great in Pembrokeshire, it does seem to be patchy at the moment in lots of places. I'm finding Newport difficult at the moment, getting a few fish but having to work hard for them.... hopefully will pick up during the next few weeks. Thanks for watching 👍👍🐟

Yes you can fish the beach on low and high water, although I didn't get a touch until around 3 hours before high water. You can also fish to the left of where I was, where it merges with Merthyr Mawr beach along the sand dunes, the other side of some rougher ground 👍

@@dalebrooke5683 In my experience Dale, this beach and Merthyr Mawr both fish best on the flood. I have fished them over low in the past and never had much luck. Not that I'm an expert but I would say fish them on the flood and over high water, then maybe 2 hours down. Although I'm happy to be proven wrong 👍

Thanks Ian, yes it was an enjoyable morning. The Lighthouse Carpark is now pay and display unfortunately. I always email the Lighthouse Inn before I go and check what time they are locking the carpark. Alternatively, you can park on the road outside, beyond the double yellow lines. Cheers 👍👍

Hi Raymond, I would say yes, although I only started getting bites around 3 hours before high water, didn't get a touch on low water. It used to be the same when I fished it years ago, used to kick in as the tide started flooding. Thanks for watching 👍👍

These days I return the majority of what I catch. If a fish is deeply hooked and won't go back, then I'll dispatch it and take it home for the table. Cheers 👍
