A ~long overdue~ comeback review (feb-april 2021)

For me the first two months of 2021 were pretty boring in my opinion but march and april managed to catch up. There are lot of songs that managed to slide in my main spotify playlist but I still think none of them are soty material. But again i won't judge so fast since i think we will get a lot of bops in may/june/july with a lot groups announcing comeback (txt, exo, rv, bts, twice, aespa....) I have feeling that there is at least going to be one or two songs that is gonna be soty material. Btw great vid !

Chungha really needs to step up her game next comeback .. after releasing masterpieces like gotta go , snapping and stay tonight I don’t know what the fuck happend with bicycle. The song weirdly just didn’t fit her in my opinion? It felt like she was playing a character

Bicycle as a song kind of checks off a lot of boxes in mainstream Western pop music, so maybe it was meant as an attempt to push her music internationally? But it did feel really out-of-character, especially since she talked about how personal Querencia was to her.

Am I the only person who thinks On The Ground has no solid concept? And I can't even tell if it's because song is unique and innovative or that it's bland

thats what i was thinking from someone who has listened to english music ever since i was born on the ground is kinda generic in a way. It doesn't really go anywhere.

I feel like the song is trying to be both an indie ballad and a generic pop song, and in trying to do both it accomplishes neither. The transition from the prechorus to the chorus subverted my expectations in a bad way, it just felt so out of place compared to the rest of the song 😐

omygosh i love the way you phrase things. my english teacher would love you 😭 i agree that a vast majority of the comebacks in 2021 have not managed to reach the bar set by previous years in kpop. maybe it’s cuz the earlier months tend to be pretty slow, so hopefully it keeps getting better from here on out.

My favorite comebacks so far are Cinema by CIX and Beautiful Beautiful by ONF. They just check all my boxes and I’m so happy because both are some of my favorite groups. More boy groups need more upbeat songs and brighter concepts, Do or Not and Down also hit right into that zone. Also Unnatural by WJSN and Inside Out by NU’EST, I really like elegant concepts with spunk, so this also fits into some of my favorite music.

i am still waiting for a hit month, since 2021 isn't really doing it for me. but, it was nice to hear songs like after school (weekly), warning (sejeong) or so what (stayc) to remind me that i can get a bad mark in school but read a book or watch a movie. also, stayc puts drugs in their music. asap is their weakest song, yet i can't get enough of it. i started stanning stayc thanks to it, and i am so in love with these girls! lia is the only thing i like about in the morning, her voice is the reason why i listened to it more than once. also the gold two piece she is wearing at one point is my new religion. here i am, annoying as always and asking you about the newest Bibi release! bad, sad and mad took some time to grow on me but it's very pre-debut Bibi and if i recall correctly you don't really like this sound. i love how she tells a story in every song and makes it continue through the whole album. my favorite song is probavly Life is a Bi... since i do have a soft spot for a violin ensamble.

I've seen a lot of people sharing similar thoughts about stayc's comeback haha, I don't think I've played it enough to get addicted to it, but I'm sure if I listened to it a few more times I'd be hooked. I'm blaming Black Eyed Pilseung for being incapable of producing a song that flops 😤 If In The Morning was just Lia's part in the prechorus I'd be obsessed. At least we got some great styling from this era haha Bibi's music just isn't my particular cup of tea, but I think her album was extremely well produced, and I love how she touches upon more serious issues through her lyrics. The idea to release multiple interconnecting music videos for this album was super creative, and I think she did a phenomenal job at portraying the emotions her songs conveyed. Even though her style doesn't suit me, I have a lot of respect for her as an artist :)

It's probably my least favorite solo album from him since it's so ballad-heavy, but I think it does a fantastic job of letting him shine as a vocalist. I'm gonna miss him when he's in the military 😭

my favorite releases from this year so far were male soloists: baekhyun bambi. cry for love is really good too. i think that's my favorite mini from him. hoshi spider was not my favorite song, but it's my male soloist choreo of the year, the stages were crazy, so creative. female soloists: wendy like water, iu lilac and hyuna i'm not cool(this one was a grower). i hated like water b-sides at first, but i listened to them while i was studying at home and they super grew on me, it had the same effect on me that suho self-portrait had last year. pretty chill and cozy. boygroups: verivery get away, onlyoneof libido and enhypen drunk-dazed. libido, choreo of the year for bg. honorable mentions: mcnd crush and shinee atlantis. shinee's don't call me album is my aoty so far, love all the b-sides. nct 127 gimme gimme is my favorite release from them since simon says, so kudos to them. as for wayv and nct dream(specially wayv which i'm used to love all the title-tracks), kick back and hot sauce were not it. after getting moonwalk and turn back time on a row(both songs had the same producers and songwriters and we're my favorite), sm decided to change them and then we got the first wayv title-track that i dislike. :( girlgroups: purple kiss ponzona, wjsn unnatural and stayc asap(i liked it better than so bad). iz*one d-d-dance was cute too. it has been really weak for ggs so far, but we're just getting into may/june, so there's time. i've discovered wjsn and gwsn recently, so i've been listening to their past releases a lot. night aviation by gwsn is the best 4th gg b-side, period. and, of course, i've been listening to f(x) and red velvet, as the sm stan that i am. pink tape, album of the century.

Ooo I've also started listening to WJSN and GWSN more as well. Don't Call Me is definitely AOTY by far. All NCT subunits have been releasing songs I don't particularly care for lately, I'm hoping their style doesn't become the norm for SM groups especially with aespa's comeback right around the corner. And f(x) and Red Velvet truly have the best discographies in kpop ✨ Usually girl groups own the summer for me, so I'm hoping we get some great songs in the months to come!

Welcome back! I love your review videos. I agree with almost every single review. Except for StayC... I actually enjoy this comeback more than what I thought I would. Although I agree it sounds a lot like a Tik Tok song, I kinda of appreciate when a song as a nice vibe into it and allows me to just chill a bit and it is still very pop. Also, what is your opinion on Baekhyun Bambi and Day6 You Make Me?

I love Baekhyun but Bambi just wasn't for me :/ His voice sounds amazing in the song, but I kept thinking of the Disney character whenever he would sing Bambi 😭 As for You Make Me, I didn't love it upon my first listen, but the more I hear it, the more I like it! I love Young K's voice on this track in particular, especially his high notes in the chorus. I guess it's kind of bittersweet considering their enlistment period is beginning, it's not their most memorable song, but I still like the meaning of it

Haha thank you 😊 I think Ugly Dance is a great follow-up to Beautiful Beautiful, I like the continuation of the retro sound. The chorus didn't get stuck in my head as quickly as Beautiful Beautiful's, but the more I listen to it, the more I enjoy it. I feel like most of their songs could be on some sort of movie soundtrack, they have a very distinct style which I like :)

I definitely got similar vibes to Breathe, I've been wanting them to do another house-influenced track for a while! I enjoyed the song, from a production standpoint I agree that it's a step up from their debut, but Breathe has the privilege of nostalgia for me so I think I'd have to listen to Close more to definitively conclude which one I like better 😂

Libido had everything, the concept, the music video. But the song production in the instrumental and voices masterized in some parts annoy me so even through I was addicted for 4 weeks, I hope the production is more careful to not blur the vocals and rap. Like Izone japanese title tracks suffered the same thing

Bambi: It's probably my least favorite title track of his, though to be fair I didn't like UN Village that much when it was released and I've definitely changed my mind since then. His voice sounds incredible, and I absolutely love the music video. But whenever I hear Bambi I think of the Disney character which doesn't really fit the vibe of the song 😬 I get that it's supposed to be a pun in Korean, but still... Get Away: I actually have this saved to my playlist but I ended up cutting it from the review for time. It's definitely one of their best releases in a while, it reminds me of something vixx would release. Jellyfish might be a garbage company, but I'll give them props for always giving their artists creative concepts. Spider: I was pleasantly surprised with it! Hoshi's performance is mesmerizing, and I love how the choreography complimented the theme of the song. The bassline makes this such a fun song to listen to, maybe it's just me but it feels kind of like a more minimalistic version of Dance Monkey? (it's probably just me lol)

I liked it :) It didn't stand out to me as much as Beautiful Beautiful, but it's still such a fun song. I liked the combination of a more funky, retro-influenced style with their signature cinematic sound, it feels like a natural continuation of their last comeback
