I always thought it was cool that the events of the Superman finale had a direct effect on this show's plot. Especially with Doctor Hamilton going from an ally of Supes to working for Cadmus out of fear.

God I love The Question. Also JLU. Underappreciated show. DC has always done animated content better than Marvel

DC has *usually* done animated better than Marvel. But DC has some misses, and Marvel has some hits. I'll put Spectacular Spiderman or Earth's Mightiest Heroes up against any DC show, for instance... while Beware the Batman was such a miss you probably don't even remember they DID a CG Batman show. Teen Titans and Young Justice are great, but Teen Titans Go is... not.

Call me crazy, but I rather liked Galatea, even setting aside the Power Girl comparisons. I'm a bit of a basic bitch; "dark mirror" types conflicting with the goodies and getting them to confront the potential darkness within themselves is kind of a thing for me. I suppose it's because it's a sub-factor of something we don't often see done well: superheroes being flawed and overcoming those flaws. Dark mirror characters give them an anthropomorphized version of their own fears, insecurities, and failures to come to terms with, hopefully making them better people and better heroes. And seeing as how we had the heart of the Unlimited League (Oliver) and one of the League's best brains (Question) helping Supergirl, it's also a good message about how one doesn't have to face those battles alone. Also, note the mythological significance in her name: Galatea, same as the beautiful statue made by Pygmalion who was given life, only to question the nature of her own existence and reject the connection to her progenitor (Pygmalion in the mythological case and Kara in the DCAU case).

Fun Fact: The pop song Question sings was originally supposed to be "Oops I did it again." but they couldn't secure the rights for it.

Oh I really enjoyed your dive on one of my favourite story arcs in TV in general when it was online before. It'll be nice to be able to watch it again.

It's funny how much I appriciate this show's 2 season arc on this after the modern Supergirl show. How the did kids show handle the "people fear the potential abuse of those more powerful them them" concept with intelegence and understanding, while the primetime drama locked it at "why do people fear what's different and totally not only the damage I do now, but how much damage I could do if someone slipped me red kryptonite or I just got fed up."

Galatea got screwed over and played. I mean come on. The girl was doomed from the start. She was a weapon and with a mind of it's own. And that story never ends well.

While I will forever love this show for complicating things and blurring the line between heroes and villains, the one thing that really disappointed me about it all was how that whole idea was seemingly thrown out of the window by the end. All this stuff about whether the League and Cadmus are right to do what they do all devolves into yet another battle of heroes against some big bad. A great fight, to be sure, but it just undermines a lot of the interesting stuff that came before 😟

Huh, never thought about it like that. I miss the DCAU though, back when DC cared about telling good stories.

I love The Question in the DCAU, he's so fun to watch. Ditching the Objectivism angle was a good idea too.

I am not sure I fully understood Chuck´s explanation why he likes Power Girl but I felt it. It is indeed hard to describe. She is a character I have heard and seen a lot about but who I still have to properly look into. A good friend of mine likes her a lot too. The show overall did a great job of introducing smaller and lesser known DC heroes to a wider audience and win them new fans.

Interestingly, Chuck brings up "adapting the Secret Wars" and I think the Spider Man Animated Series he was showing actually... tried to touch on that in its own way? I'm told that's what an arc had been, I honestly can't say. I wasn't quite up to speed on Spider Man's comic lore when watching it, and still am not.

I still have The Dark Knight Strikes Again (DK 2) and I recall Green Arrow & The Question arguing political talking points with Green Arrow on the wiener left wing side. Yeah, I know DK 2 still sucks the big one!

On minor characters, there were a few we glimpsed that I'd've liked to see more of. Vigilante, because Nathan Fillion; although the idea of 'gunslinger vs supervillains' doesn't particularly appeal to me. Then again, maybe there's more there there. It isn't as if Timm was against rewriting backstories to make an existing character more interesting, with Mr. Freeze being the definitive example. Also Booster Gold; 'The Greatest Story Never Told' is my favorite stand alone episode, and it would've been nice to see more Booster... the problem being that they basically introduced him and told his most important story all in one go. Part of my affection for him also stems from the fact that he's one of the few heroes I know of who, at one point, had a secret identity as a superhero.
