Excellent and thoughtful walkthrough across the different stages of JM's rig, Jack & PG! On top of that, really tasteful playing - I'm a fan! And yes, I do think that Silver Sky has more than earned its place in the arsenal of modern S-style tones. Loved it!
@someonetookteampixel25 жыл бұрын
To be honest, i love the silver sky. As John said, it's his own "vision" on the classic strat. I went on his Asia Tour 2019 concert on April 5th, he used the silver sky on most of his performance. But at the end of the concert, he used his Black1 to play Gravity. It's cool to see him play both the silver sky and black1, the silver sky create his recent sound and/or could recreate his Continuum era, while the black1 have that soul which makes Gravity feels so alive.

Amazing Jack. Few can pull this off. Honestly the closest I have heard to perfect Continuum tone. The tremelo-ish sound on gravity is actually a vibe set pretty mild. Dork cred +1. Klein makes a dang good set of JM black one sound like pickups. Jazzy Kats. Here’s my plug for them. If you need some good pickups, check them out. Other than that a compressor and a clean boost (klon type works) will help you get that touch sensitivity and mids you hear on those parts like the prelude to slow dancing on the dvd version of where the light is. The Cali 76 is expensive but save up and just get it. It’s worth every sweaty dollar. My 2 cents worth. I just have a princeton reverb. Maybe with a two rock you don’t need a compressor.
@rb-ic2ty5 жыл бұрын

Andrew Boysen Well he has a dumble and a two rock doesn’t he...
@route66664 жыл бұрын
David D Yes he does, but when he uses a twin reverb or even in his earlier days when he used a vibroking long he never used a compressor. His tone doesn’t come from a compressor.
@BeefNEggs0574 жыл бұрын
Andrew Boysen Have it your way. Sounds better with light compression to my ears. Isn’t 100% right or the best because I say so of course. Just my pref. I gave it to those who want help getting there with options I use. Feel free to do the same. My bet is that John does use compression at times and definitely can hear it in the album. Every album has it to some extent. Compressors: people either love them or hate em. Almost political ugh.

Magnificent video Jack! I am a novice but had detected the subtle perhaps but fundamental differences from just a Fender and a clean amp. I so much appreciate being proven correct. I do think though that there is a huge difference between the Fender era and the PRS one. To jump on the PRS route you really need to have the PRS amp. That is the perfect marriage. I feel that it lends more to playing chords and triage while Fender is more single notes with proper closing the phrase with a chord and/or percussive touch. You played that to my novice ears and justified my money spent on certain pedals (80% of your selection). Big thanks.

Fantastic playing Jack. Just saw John 2 days ago at the o2 arena in London and he blew my mind. Truly inspiring tone and performance. I'm getting a Klone for my birthday in a month or so and I think I'll go for the Ryra Klone as people have been saying that it's the closest to a Klon for that kind of money. The Rockett Archer sounds ace as well so I'm between these 2 now. How do you like them? What are their main differences and which one is more versatile? Excellent video mate, can't wait for more.
@martinus195 жыл бұрын
I have the same pedalboard as john mayer now. I think the ceriatone centura is the best choice. If you cant get it i would go for the ryra. 1. Centura 2. Ryra 3. J rockett archer

Heading to Mayer's first Irish gig in Three Arena tomorrow, Wednesday 16th October. It's Mayer's birthday so it should be a good show. The guitar sounds on Continuum poured fuel on my GAS for sure. The timing for this video was perfect. Jack that was an excellent walk through of the history of Mayer's tones over the last 10yrs. A visit to Peach guitars is in store for sure. Yeah this is something that needs to be addressed. Fantastic video, but when diving this deep into the tone I feel like the knob settings on the guitar, pedals, and amps should have been discussed. Gain staging the overdrives is a key part of John’s sound also, would have been a huge help to see how that was set up.

If they didn't attenuate it, it should be really loud. I see the master at noon, and i usually gig my Classic Reverb around 1 on the master and it's really loud for a club gig without mic'ed.

Fantastic video, very interesting and great playing. Would be real interesting to compare the sounds of a Two Rock Traditional Clean with a Morgan PR36. I've got the PR36 and although its based on a Fender Princeton it has tons more headroom, and a much bigger bass response. I think they would sound very similar side by side.
@guusverschuuren84953 жыл бұрын
I doubt it. Two rock is not very Fendery. The responsive is so different
@genesisfalling3 жыл бұрын
@@guusverschuuren8495 yes agree but so is the Morgan. The Fender Princeton was the starting point then Joe Morgan then supercharged it with extended bass response that doesn’t flub out at high volumes, tons more high headroom, it’s so loud before it even starts to break up etc.
