This is also the season where they had to change their production process to screen the movies in their entirety before they were selected for inclusion in the series. This is because of the infamous movie Sidehackers, which they bought the rights to sight-unseen, but includes a graphic rape/murder scene, which the MST3K guys had to completely edit out. This was a significant departure from their previous process, which was more freeform and spontaneous.

And soon, MST3K shall live again. Again.

I can't wait to see Emily's episodes (far as I know both Jonah Ray and Emily from the live tour will be hosting). I hear her riff game is strong.

hopefully the pacing of the jokes will be better which was the main problem I had with the revival (skits were great OTOH)

I love how you're covering this series, I really get the feeling that this show kinda inspired yours, I get the same vibes from both and I love both of them :>

Still makes us laugh, still awesome. Many thanks MST3K for all the joy and laughs (mind you, years later I'm still almost obsessed with Gypsys thing about Richard Basehart!).

Oh, great. These made it to the restore pile. MST3K is a paradox. One of my favorite shows but it's hard to watch. Balancing the jokes with films that aren't of the best quality, by that I mean the audio is often terrible, the visuals often bad themselves, plus things cut for time and pacing, and it becomes a show you have to really focus on or it just becomes listening to the jokes and not quite getting why they're being made. There are several episode I couldn't tell you what happened in the movie because you try to multitask because we don't have a lot of spare 90 minute blocks in life. Still, I put it on to rewatch more than most TV.

Well, as others have noted, these are old shows being moved to KZbin; in this case Chuck's site still links to Daily Motion.

As scary as they are, I kind of like the earliest versions of the Bots, especially Crow.

Yes, I agree, Phase IV was the first experiment where everything came together. Not that season 2? Full disclosure, I like season 1 episodes more than season 2 episodes, especially seeing how the best episode was "X Marks the Spot", followed by its extended short "King Dinosaur". The Godzilla films, even Jun Fukuda Godzilla films, are more watchable than MST3k would require.... yeah, I saw that pick coming a mile away. It's Godzilla... he's quite large you see...

Season 2 was when it all came together.

I have to agree with Joel that Gallagher is terrible. The only prop comedian that's probably worse is his idiot brother, whom he sued for stealing his bit. Even Carrot Top is funnier than Gallagher. Seriously, have you ever seen the "jokes" he tells when he's not smashing watermelons? Goofy boomer ignorant political nonsense. Political humor is apparently really hard, which is weird because all politicians on both sides of the aisle give you so much to work with. But I think Gallagher's issue is that he's a full-fledged Republican, so he doesn't dare make jokes about how stupid Republicans are, and since it's pretty hard to make fun of Democrats if you refuse to make fun of Republicans too (despite, again, Democrats giving you *a lot* of material), he resorts to racism. And racist jokes are just stupid.
