I have always loved the ELF, been watching it for years now. Price went up 1k$!!. Was hoping it was going to go down so I could afford one. You guys need to team up with Elon Musk or Manoj Bhargava and knock down that price - these things should be coming off an assembly line by now at 100 a day and selling for 2500$. Anyone driven one of these for a whole harsh Canadian winter on the highly destructive salt laden roads! Just wondering if Canadians or cold northern states owners only use them for 3 seasons because of the salt? I hope your business is doing well and continues so. Cheers, Patrick

I want to get an elf. I like the 2fr. being that I'm 4'8" it would probably have to be customized to fit my height. also with Cleveland winters I would want a set of studded tires, extra batteries and doors. That would put the cost in the ten thousand dollar range. That's a little less the cost of a regular car. personally I would rather have an elf and not have to buy gas. Ever. Any chance that you guys at Organic Transit will lower the price? I remember when they first came out they were around 5000. I'm sure they would fly off the shelves if they were more affordable.

I want one. It needs provisions for a child seat.... And for that price it would be nice to have an actual dashboard that integrated a tablet and an integrated audio system rather than a stick on bluetooth speaker? This thing costs almost as much as a car, it should have some carlike features. see your gauges without having to squint at a phone screen. Otherwise i really like it, would be perfect for my 9 mile work commute :) Oh yeah hate to beat a dead horse but you guys should provide in house financing since its so expensive. I understand that it will save you tons of money compared to a car but not in my case, I just bought a new car and will still use the car for road trips. This will be for commuting so my car can be the last car i ever buy.

Patricia -yes I tinted my windshield brow and side and rear windows with vinyl cling tint. It works well. Does pumping the pedals trickle charge the battery? If not, why not? Weight? Expense? Both?
@popeyegordon
@popeyegordon 3 жыл бұрын
Regenerative braking on vehicles this light is just a marketing ploy. They do not have enough kinetic energy to make regeneration useful, most of the energy is wasted as friction and resistance. If you mean trying to charge the battery by pedaling, not practical. A human barely puts out 100 watts so after energy loss in friction and circuitry and internal battery resistance there is hardly anything left. Also, the type of motor that can give regenerative power is a less efficient design. A solar panel on the roof is effortless.

@@popeyegordon I never said it's a bad idea, I have always said it is TOO EXPENSIVE for what little you get (PEBL is objectively a better vehicle in every way, and despite being more expensive, the PEBL is better value than the ELF) as for power, you are not going to power a 750w motor with a 100w panel unless you spend most of the day parked, in addition, there's no AC, no heat, the cabin is open at the bottom which means water will get inside if you ride in the rain If you insist on keeping the same price > use a bigger panel (around the 150-200w range) > Seal the cabin with vents that can be opened > Use off the shelf parts for cheaper manufacturing > Source your batteries from Japan like everyone else (about half the price, and better quality than US made cells) > Replace the flimsy clear plastic wrap with Perspex or polycarbonate > Add a dashboard with instruments (battery charge, speedometer, battery/motor/BMS temperature ,power flow indicator.etc) > Add a heater core for winter use, and an AC unit for summer (a radiator submerged in ice water will work fine) > Increase the battery capacity to power these extras > Add gears to the powertrain if you insist on staying at 750w, then you can climb hills with the extra weight Maybe then it will be worth the asking price

It is the fact that I can be nasty when appropriate that should clue you in to the fact that no employee would ever make comments like mine. I am a very enthusiastic owner of the ELF for 29 months now. As an environmentalist I am battling bad habits like stealing more than our fair share of resources from future generations. Kicking your car addiction and going solar/human power is key to reducing AGW. If you read enough of my comments you will find the statement from an Organic Transit representative that categorically denies any company connection with me other than a sales receipt for ELF serial number 282.
@luciaulloa
@luciaulloa 7 жыл бұрын
Popeye Gordon that's fine. My comment still stands. There is no need to be nasty to other people. You cannot possibly assume to know everything from one comment a person posts. So if they ask for a discount, perhaps they cannot afford it. Maybe they have some background in engineering and know the prices could be lower. Good for you that you were able to afford the high pricetag for one of these. Everyone is not financially able to afford that pricetag. However, that doesn't mean they don't also want to help the planet and make a difference. I personally feel like you come off as offensive when defending this company and their product. Which is a hindrance to them and also a put off to anyone who would probably be willing to hear what you have to say. Either way, it's your perogative. @@popeyegordon At least the Elf looks more refined and better looking than the Pebl, which another KZbinr suggested to me. You are wrong on the first account. I am a cyclist, but not a trike rider. I have owned nine different bikes over the years. Most of those bikes were secondhand bikes. I also gave most of those bikes to other peoples as gifts so they too can get in the cycling. I have been bicycle commuter for the past 28 years. I’m 46 and I’ve never even had a car license. The reason I looked at this videos was because my cycling habits have changed recently. I was mostly a daily commuter cyclist and a weekend hobby long distance tour cyclist. I did a couple of group rides like the STP the STV over there in Seattle Washington. Recently I moved out of the city to a smaller town in western Maryland where things are a little bit more farther apart. The area is still cycle friendly. I have recently been getting a little burned out on peddling so I thought about switching to electric. I have always been interested in recumbents. It has been wind tunnel tested to prove that it offers the same amount of drag as a rider on a bike with no fairings while being capable of taking a passenger or a 550 pound payload. It is the SUV of velomobiles and is not for fast biking. There are other designs for that but this one is far safer in traffic. Even with my open sides I have had fogging at night in humid weather in Florida. I have a fan for that. The ELF was my only transportation for 7 years. I'm sure you have climbed in a car after walking through rain and had all the windows fog quickly and there you are not panting hard and sweating a lot. there are some decent concepts but the body is a little too wide. also, there is no real environmental protection for the occupants -open floor and sides. then there is the whole lack of security. vinyl back window is just begging to be ripped open.... if the market is some liberal college town where there is no crime (this place does not exist) then this trike would be OK....but in the real world, this thing is just begging to be violated...the term "gone in 60 seconds " comes to mind regarding the battery pack and assorted tech mounted on the handle bars. I have made my own delta style recumbent trike. fully enclosed, heat ex-changer ,radio, 750 watt 36volt motor and 20 amp hours of battery. my entire build cost me 800 bucks...now that the 1st is done and refined i can duplicate it for 800 bucks and 12 man hours of labor....what would elf charge for my trike ? 4,000 dollars ?

Sorry, you are mistaken. As I am in my fifth year with the ELF as a car replacement I see all these misguided unrealistic posts a lot and I know they are wrong. The large volume body is to allow a large cargo capacity or passengers. You can spend the same on a claustrophobic bullet shaped velomobile with no cargo room, solar or motor. ELF is the SUV of velomobiles with its 550 pound payload capacity. The roof, shell and windshield offer ample protection from the elements. I stay dry in rain, a fantastic feature. The rear window is polycarbonate and there is no reason to lock it, it opens to access the locking trunk. The only 'tech' on handlebars is a hard wired sensor for power use and speedometer, OR a smart phone you will always take with you. The battery locks in place. All bicycle security methods apply and the motor key removes, There is NO THEFT PROBLEM - this is way too big and unique to appeal to bike thieves. Only two have been stolen, out of 1000, in 6 years. One was recovered.

@@popeyegordon i have a cargo capasity of 400 pounds..that is just the rear 5/8" bearing rating...this does not include the front fork rating.I was told by the axle maker that the shear point rating for the axle is 68,000 pounds. regarding climate control, i have a 15 quart igloo cooler that i place 1/2 galleon of water and 3 32oz bottles with frozen water ..i have a aquarium pump that feeds a radiator equipped with a 8" fan. this contraption allows 47 degree air at 240 cubic feet per minute..hole assembly is 12volts and draws .2 amps . regarding lighting, i have 2 motorcycle head lights that were designed for early 80s KZ 550-750 models..i have in them led lights that are rated for 550 lumans each. i also have generic led lights on the side and rear ( these i purchased from a commercial truck parts sight). my roof is 56" tall from the ground. my interior width is 33 inches. in mined you resemble more of sitting in a low beach chair..the bottom of the seat is 11 inches above the floor board. regarding a passenger, WHY ? i have a trunk that tapers 45 degrees downwards from the roof and the taper starts 12 inches behind the seat. the bottom length is 36 inches. i could put a seat there if i wished and have a passenger in tandom but that is not why i made this trike. i made it for me. a solo commuter. I just ordered a new front wheel drive motor for my ride as i am upgrading to a 1000 watt 48 volt system...based on my 280 watt power comsumption at 23 miles per hour it will not be much of a difference...florida is flat land. oh ya, i have a complete sound system with a 8" bazooka woofer... amazed coworkers for me to pull up with ac blasting and dance music blaring..just to make a point. so basically, you sneered at me and condescended with a lot off asshat assumptions...well now it is my turn... you arrogant fucks go spend thousands upon thousands of dollars for items that cost mere hundreds...then you sneer at others who see's the highway robbery ass fucking you took from the sales department and we opt out. we in -turn decide to take a weekend and build our own... you might be good at your job but you are a fucking idiot in real life... kiss my cock !

Base price is actually $8,950, I don't know where you heard it was 8k. The ELF is expensive to build with US parts and materials in a US factory, the price will continue to rise. A competing vehicle sells for the same price with less performance, no solar and no warranty. REMINDER OF THE BLATANTLY OBVIOUS: Even if you are given a car absolutely free with all taxes paid, that car always costs you between 3 and 5 thousand dollars a year, every year on average. In 10 years of driving a free car, you spend 30 to 50 THOUSAND DOLLARS depending on the age if it when you got it. In that same 10 year period your total costs of owning and driving an ELF is $3000 or 1/10th as much, plus ten years of cardio exercise you never get while driving any car. That includes two battery replacements and routine bicycle maintenance. No mandatory car insurance, fuel, expensive oil changes or timing belt changes, and wear item replacements like wiper blades or light bulbs, no potential disaster of a $5000 motor or $3000 transmission to replace, no license or tag fees, no driver license, no pollution that affects the health of all humans, much less tire and brake dust into the environment, zero carbon emissions, no road kills at a sensible 20 MPH, no parking fees, no speeding tickets are possible either. You save the cost of a gym membership and greatly reduce the possible need for a $90,000 coronary bypass as well. So, no, the world's fanciest bike is in fact an extreme bargain that quickly pays for itself and lets you save for retirement instead of paying mechanics and insurance and fuel costs.

I would love to see these cheaper, too, but they're right on par with custom bikes with remotely similar components. It's not a super compact car, but a Rolls Royce bicycle, and really priced about right either way you look at it.

@@popeyegordon $5k per year for maintenance and operating costs? Maybe if you drive a BMW or an AUDI My car (3.8L V6 Holden VX Commodore) costs about $400 per year to register, around $80 per month to refuel, $40 per month to insure, and last year's maintenance bill was around $800 $2640 is not $5k (And that's in Australian dollars, so it would be even less when converted to US dollars)

@@mwbgaming28 You are a fucking lying asshole. Cars cost thousands every year for insurance and maintenance. The ELF has no $5000 engine or $3000 transmission to blow up and they offer no vital exercise. The AAA says the current cost of driving a new car every years is over $8,500 annually. Today the base price of the PEBL is $12,000. My habit of driving old cars saved me $3000/yr when I stopped - $18,000 savings in 6 years and my heart stays healthy thanks to exercise in a fun way.

Open bottom for ventilation, weight savings and to demonstrate that water falls down, not up. The wheels have fenders. At a max speed of 20 mph there is simply no problem and the ventilation is vital for staying cool. Your cynical negative attack is not appealing.

False. Each wheel has a fender. We need maximum ventilation for exercising in this small space. KZbin has videos of the ELF being driven in rain, snow and ice. Since when does bike tread throw up rocks more than a couple inches?? Your uninformed attack on a great design is not appealing.

@@mwbgaming28 Of course. This is the only true statement you have made here. The ELF has enough power to take me at 20 mph with no pedaling but I need exercise so I do pedal, especially to maintain speed up hills. Troll fuktards like you don't know that the ELF has been marketed to wheelchair bound owners who can not pedal. They fold up their chairs behind the seat and go.
