"Anyone can be Spider-Man" Here is the subtext of the movie's most quoted line, Anyone can be (a fan) of Spider-Man. The thrust of the narrative is that a lot of new people are coming into the superhero genre and it is up to those who have been in the genre for a while (old Peter) to let the new fans (Miles) know what they are in for. While at the same time looking at all the cool stuff Miles can do, new suit and new powers, and realizing how cool they are and what they add to the story.

This movie did three things for me. I cared about Miles who I've never really cared for as a character. I liked Spider-Ham who I thought was stupid till they made him in Tex Avery style. And I finally believed that this movie Peter Parker was the one from the comics. None of the live action Peters were "Peter".

In one of the special features on the Spawn movie DVD, Todd McFarlane talks about he wanted to do a Spider-Man story where Spidey stops a mugging, the guy getting mugged calls the mugger a racial slur, and then Spidey picks up the muggy by the collar and asks "What color do you think I am under this mask?"

8:36 “for a generation who grew up with the DCAU, John Stewart was the Green Lantern” Pretty much me, because even at the time I was only peripherally aware of Hal Jordon, thus didn’t understand why they went with that iteration instead of the Stewart one.

I read DC on and off since i was a kid and watched the Superman TAS where they brought in Kyle Rayner and even to me John Stewart is Green lantern. Hal was the crazy one who drank the Yellow Koolaid and died a supervillain after murdering most of the Corp. Sure he redeemed himself but even the comics at the time of DCAU pushed Kyle and Jon more then Old man Hal Jordan, mostly because He was boring as hell which lead to them deciding to turn him evil to shake things up.

It's worth pointing out that, like Miles, Mayday was the standout character of an attempt at a reboot (of the 20 years later sequel sort) of the Marvel universe. Her book lasted years after the project as a whole shut down. I assume Mayday didn't make the cut for _Into the Spider Verse_ because she was thought too similar to Gwen. His cameoness Miguel O'Hara's book was, IIRC, the longest lasting of the _2099_ books, too.

Always loved the little anime cameos in Peni Parker's world in the comics. Most notably her mech looking like an EVA, to the little Tonari no Totoro stickers she'd attached to it. Helped give her and her universe a bit of character in a subtle way.

Great show with a neat look at the relationship between creator, creation, and audience.

Y’know it’s April Fools already in my timezone as of this comment, so when I saw this notification I didn’t want to believe it at first. Was ecstatic to see that it isn’t a joke, and despite all this chaos going on and your own troubles, you pulled through with this. While for me this isn’t among my top 10 films of all time, it is definitely in the number 11 spot. I freaking love this movie. I read the original comic event, was going to give it a chance when it was first announced as a film, and walked out of it more than satisfied. I was ecstatic that a lot of its characters, previously comic exclusives, are now household names, cheered when it beat Disney at the Oscars, and am beyond hyped for the sequel. IMO, easily the best Spider-Film of them all. Any and all of those adjectives from the comics that are attached to Spider-Man: Amazing, Spectacular, Sensational, Superior, Ultimate, and plenty of others I am missing, they all apply to this movie and more. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse is phenomenal.

On the one hand, I had no idea that folks accused the Green Lantern movie of being racist. On the other hand, I can understand why John Stewart would be folks favorite Green Lantern even if they did know about Hal beforehand. On the other other hand, I’m kind of glad John didn’t get associated with that mess regardless.

Some people also accused MLP of being racist because of Luna (when in this show there is a Zebra). That is simply similar case. I also prefer John Stewart, but both of them are Green Lantern and there is no reason to not have them both. I still hate when movies pretend that there were no five Robins, even if using Dick make no sense.

There is a theory that hobo Spider-Man is one from comic (who definitely wasn't Mary Sue) and one who died was Sam Raimi Spider-Man, as biological powers were unique to those movies.

I'm still convinced Spiderman Homecoming was written for Miles, but someone at Marvel put their foot down and demanded the use of Peter. Thanks for all you do man.
@TheRezro4 жыл бұрын
This conspiracy theory make no sense. Yes, MCU Peter Parker was clearly based on Miles, but there are far simpler explanations for that. Like for example they did try get back Miles but Sony agree on Peter or simply they didn't wany rehash stuff from older movies. In the end it isn't really that big deal. It is a multiverse after all.
@chrisw2074 жыл бұрын
@@TheRezro Never said it was a big deal, or even bad. I'm just not convinced Sony went with Peter instead of Miles particularly happily or to be considerate to people that didn't know who Miles was. I have no proof, but there is enough on public record of how important inclusivity is to people at Sony, so I'm more inclined to think it was a sticking point (pun intended) for the Marvel half of that partnership either being the ones concerned, or preferring the MCU version of their flagship character be that character, not one of the family. Someday a tell all book will prove me right or wrong.
@ranwolf12404 жыл бұрын
@@TheRezro Ned is obviously a renamed Ganke
@TheRezro4 жыл бұрын
@@chrisw207 But you make one transparent mistake here. When Sony actually cared about consistency with comic? Whole biologic angle from Reimi movie is actually not from there. If you want proper improved adaptation for this character look no further then to Insomniac Spider-Man game. Cinematic licence owners usually struggle with other versions of characters (Titans TV series was probably first what have two from five Robins), when MCU is famous exactly because despite some differences, they bring new ideas and characters on the table. Far more probable is that no one in Sony actually know what to do until people from Marvel help them, so they pick random ideas they have at hand (and Spider-Verse was produced around same time). In long run it doesn't actually matter. Peter has deeper story then people think. Like he was dating Betty Brant and has relations with Liz Allen, before even Gwen Stacey. So what currently happen in the story isn't actually that far from sources. Only Ned Leeds characters could be somewhat inspired by Miles best friend. But I presume you agree that he is more then that one relation. Far more interesting is theory that MCU Flash Thompson is actually Harry Osborn.

With the possible exception of 90s Clone Saga and Superior Spider-Man Doc Ock, I can’t think of any of the other Spider-Characters that replace Peter Parker. Then again to be fair, DC has been doing the legacy hero stuff for decades now compared to Marvel.
