Did you have a favourite game from the Amiga's rather weird and wonderful collection of Christmas demos? And more importantly, what Amiga magazine was the best one? Let me know! A Merry Christmas to you all. :) -Kim

I can't remember if it was a Christmas edition, but the best full game I ever got from an Amiga mag was when The One put Trex Warrior from Thallion on the cover disk. Previously had only been released in Germany, it's a great game. Also of note, and also from The One, is Boondar, an unofficial conversion of Bounder. If you like the original, it's more of the same but with Amiga quality sound and graphics.

Watched to see what life was like for Amiga-players back then, as a console kid from Sweden born in late 80's that was never my market, but I absolutely will chime in and wish the best for Ian Hetheringtons family and give my respect to the man. Psygnosis via Playstation were legends even we console kids knew, but for the Computer kids of Britain ve must be an even greater legend. All the respect I've got to give to that man, an executive who didn't muck up work for the artists. Wish we had more of him around...

I will never forget Xmas Nights.... That was the best Xmas ever... I had my Saturn from last year and this year was the year to make the collection grow. This brings back a lot of sad memories for me. I remember a lot of these cover disks when the Amiga was still a thing... it's sad because the Amiga magazines declined and moved to CDs and then a bit later the impossible happened and CU Amiga and Amiga Format merged. And then not much later it was all basically over. The PPC migration basically failed. The community splintered and everything became so hostile only the totally insane people were left.
@cupofcustard2 жыл бұрын
The same ethos of generous demo discs was carried on at their successors. PC Gamer and PC format would continue to have a lot of games and software given away with mags up until the late 90s early 00s. I do miss those days.

Some awesome chunks of Christmas nostalgia there. The magazines of the time really were our connection to the outside world of gaming. And for those of that couldn't really afford brand new games, the cover disks gave us opportunities to play demos of new games, and full experiences of older ones.

Not sure if you've covered it in another video Kim, but one of my favourite free magazine cover games was Moley Christmas, starting Spectrum legend Monty Mole. This came free with Your Sinclaire if memory serves me correctly. Enjoyed this video, reminds me of the Amiga days - I did get Christmas Lemmings free at the time. Non-christmas related, as well as Kid Gloves that you mentioned (I got that one too), in 1991 Amiga Format gave a disc away with the full games Archipelago and Ilyad. Have a great Christmas!

I loved cover disks. I didn't have an Amiga back then but a PC but the principle was the same except the PC scene had Shareware which gave you tons of content for free, much more than your average demo. Heck, you even got the occasional full free game. I do wish more devs had made unique demos though - it would have made it fun collecting them instead of it just being the same as the full game but with a timer, or a single level, or just being limited to certain options.

As was most of the psygnosis amiga catalogue.

@nosferadu2 жыл бұрын
Who is RLM?
@duffman182 жыл бұрын
@@nosferadu Another Chris-Stuckmann-like KZbin channel. People who don't know anything about filmmaking, think that RLM know tons about filmmaking, when really they don't. I highly highly recommend watching this video about KZbin "film review" channels like RLM and Chris Stuckmann, debunking all their claims about the star wars prequels in particular, since that's the series of videos that made RLM popular in the first place. It's really truly fascinating, you'll learn a lot about filmmaking and the behind the scenes of the star wars prequels, you'll enjoy it even if you hate those movies (like I've never liked the star wars prequels, and still don't, and I used to be a huge fan of RLM and Chris stuckmann as well, but I can't go back now having watched this video). It's part of an even larger video about the star wars prequels in general, so if you enjoy this, you can go watch that whole video too, it's on the same channel. But for now, just watch this, it's truly well made, and is written by someone who actually went to film school, and also actually did the research on the film that these other KZbin channels neglected to do: kzbin.info/www/bejne/aJ6ko51sjNuksKc They did their big reviews of the star wars prequels years ago, and people still treat them as gospel, despite them being thoroughly and utterly debunked time and time again. They demonstrate a sheer lack of basic filmmaking knowledge, like the 180° rule, which is pretty much the first thing you learn on day 1 of film school. RLM make some fantastic videos, and they're hilarious, but yeah they are like Chris Stuckmann and Jeremy Jahns and the like, they're not real film critics, they're people who want to make films but don't want to put in the time and effort learning even the most basic of filmmaking technique and theory. Their usual videos are pretty damn entertaining, when they're not being serious but just shit-talking some objectively terrible movies. But whenever they try to do a serious review or analysis of something, they get so much basic stuff wrong that can be debunked simply by using the text itself (i.e. actually watching the films, not even watching a behind the scenes making-of documentary or reading a book about the making of it, or anything like that, all you have to do is sit through the films to find tons of examples that debunk their claims). And very few people bother to actually go and check their claims out for themselves, they just take their word as gospel. Even if you end up disagreeing with this analysis of RLM and the other similar channels to them, you'll still enjoy this video a lot. It's just that well made.
