I remember playing The Lion King on the computers at Boots! Fantastic selection of demos there. That Overlord does look good as well!

Yeah some demos with real depth to them are always welcome, and Overlord looked great just wish I had any real idea of how to play 😁

😎Man I loved Coverdisks back in my AMIGA days! Sampling demos of commercial software and games as well as PD, Sharewares, demos and once in a while even full software giveaways even if mostly older versions.
@GouldFishOnGames2 жыл бұрын
The cover disks were amazing, so much great stuff to play with. And you never knew what state the demos were going to be in. was it super early with semi broken bits, or cut down versions of the final game. it was great fun!

I have all of these! A surprisingly good selection of games I would've been playing in January '95! Great video :)

Having Amos on a disk & a guide in the mag is very cool! One for the bedroom coders… who probably had a copy anyway? I don’t play football games but Sensible Soccer is technically impressive for it’s day. Lion King rocked on the Mega Drive, never played it on the Amiga? I really like the Cannon Fodder 2 demo having fan-made levels, that’s fun. The music in Power Drive, like the rest of the game is A-miga effort… I’ll get my coat. Super Stardust is excellent & a 3 level demo is a great edition. Overlord is exceptional for the time. Jungle Strike demo, Holliday Lemmings & Magnetic Fields on 1 magazine? In spite of strong competition that’s just a win. Even Base Jumpers & Super Skid Marks are fun but I don’t know if I can forgive you calling original Minis “buggies”? 😄 Great video (& not just because we agree on the winner.) Thanks.

A decent selection of games this time around, and yeah I should have called them mini's they are even on the cover of the game so there is no excuse really!

When did these magazines stop? I hadn't really considered how late on 1995 was! 😮
@GouldFishOnGames2 жыл бұрын
Most of the magazines lasted till 1996, but Amiga Format kept going till 2000!

Very enjoyable video :) I always missed out on Amiga demo disks aside from the usual stack that would no doubt turn up from no one knows where so good to see some played
@RetroBytesUK2 жыл бұрын
There are a few really good games on those disks, as a kid I would have gone for AF (and did) based on Amos alone.
@GouldFishOnGames2 жыл бұрын
I can remember if that was the first time Amos was on a cover disk, but it would have been a great thing to get at the time. and there was a great selection of games this time around, made choosing the winner so hard!

@@GouldFishOnGames I think CU Amiga had it on a cover disk before, but it was the original Amos, not the new Amos Pro from here. This got me started on making games and I did indeed spend many hours learning how to code.

It always amused me that Lion King apparently needed a turbo bastard Amiga when it runs very, very happily on a Sega Master System.
@GouldFishOnGames2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it doesn't really look that much better then a regular A500 game either. Its an odd one.

That's a shame about Power Drift, it's pretty decent on the Mega Drive and really good on the Jaguar!
@GouldFishOnGames2 жыл бұрын
I've had a few people mention it's a better game on other platforms. Its possible the Amiga got a bad port, or I just bounced off the demo so hard that I'm thinking of using it as cheap way to put satellites in space. 😁

@@GouldFishOnGames YOu do have to take it easy with the accelerator, it's not like Super Sprint, where you hold it down all the time and throw yourself around corners. So its more a sim in that respect.
@Larry2 жыл бұрын
@@GouldFishOnGames Maybe by 1995 they weren't too concerned over the quality of the Amiga port. I mean look at Jungle Strike, IT's sequel Urban Strike had been out on the Mega Drive for well over a year, and this was palmed off to Ocean to do everything.
@GouldFishOnGames2 жыл бұрын
@@Larry Yeah, between Jungle Strike and Lion King this month we can see the quick and dirty ports piling up.

I remember a few of these games, super star dust there was also a aga version for the 1200. Overlords , a corrupted copy of lemmings 2. It had graphical and audio issues with just a few levels playable. Base jumpers is a nice game, imo inside the building was more like Magic Pockets.

I had all these disks and remember the games. Lion king was quite good. Super stardust was just pretty Asteroids.

I still have a copy of THE ONE AMIGA, JANUARY 1995 magazine 😺👍, but no cover disk - AAARGHH 😹!! Also, there are some of my favorites: - SENSIBLE WORLD OF SOCCER - ATR - ALL TERRAIN RACERS - SUPER STARDUST (Hyvä Suomi 🇫🇮!) - BATTLEZONE - X-MAS LEMMINGS - SKIDMARKS Awesome Amiga demo video 😺👍🕹️. Thank you, once again, and greetings from Vantaa, Finland 🇫🇮.

yeah there were some great games in that line up and awesome that you still have the magazine! I've been getting back into collecting them recently (even though I do not have the space, they are great to read over). Hello to you our Finish friends and developers! you are all welcome here!

Another fantastic video Gouldfish! Keep it up! Any chance of something from 1993 involving CU Amiga?

Thanks mate, I'm sure I should be able to find something, although CU Amiga has similar issues to Amiga Format. they don't always have lots of games on the cover.

would you like to try a coverdisk face off of aui, shopper and ac maybe? Like a PD face off .. not sure if it would be any good myself but who knows! Maybe 10minute guy could do it if its not your thing..

The issues tend to be getting copies of the cover disks and the magazines. as while the mags don't show up much in the episode, I tend to refer to them to find out how to launch some of the games or to look up any instructions. I have problems even with the main ones that I cover, as not all of the disks have been archived and the same with the magazines them selves.
