It doesn't matter how much money was involved. Telling the people scammed to just "let it go', just just letting the scammer run rampant. This could just be the scammers' strategy tbh. If they accept 20 comms at 50$, ghost them all and they all let it go because it's "only 50$", it's still a thousand bucks scammed off people.

Some of the incorrect things could be stylistic things but stuff like completely missing markings and bows and fully miss understanding the hair is a lot and not okay imo. I understand losing files and being upset about it but yeah you can't just ignore what you agreed to with the commissioners. ARTISTS, YOU DO NOT ACTUALLY HAVE THAT MONEY UNTIL THEY GET THE PRODUCT! It's safe to ask people for some amount up front to avoid being taken advantage of, send a heavily watermarked version for confirmation that they like it, then you get paid the rest and then you send them the unwatermarked one. Until you send them the finished peice you need to treat any money taken for that commission as NOT YOURS TO SPEND! It doesn't matter if you have a non refundable deposit or anything like that in your tos, it's not actually your money until you give them what was agreed on. If you can't do that you need to work a different job until you can comfortably do this because it's part of being a professional and protecting yourself.

I commissioned someone back in august 2nd for a custom character design, which is a simple flat colored design. I was one of I think three custom slots. The artist told me their deadlines are usually 1-3 months, which I didn't mind. Come September, they opened up more slots for customs for September and October, so I messaged them, considering they hadn't yet finished any of the other slots they had, but they told me my design should be done at the end of September. Well, I waited till the beginning of November to ask them about my custom, since they had told me it would be done in September. The artist apologized, told me they got sick and are busy trying to move countries. The only thing for me is, they make adopts several times a week, as they have made a lot of adopts in the time I commissioned them, which was why I hoped mine would get done soon. Didn't give me a new date, but the thing is that I really want a design from the artist, so before I rush to request a refund, since they have financial burdens as well as trying to move, I am waiting till the end of December.

24:09 My goodness, if you're going to confuse what a client is asking for screenshot the text they are telling you and have that text in view while working on the art DX they brought up the dino hoodie twice so far, come on. When I have more then one commission I always label everything, include screenshots of images/conversations of what they are asking for, helpful so I don't have to keep checking back and/or mix up commissions. Best way to do updates I find if give yourself room Don't say i'll start on the sketch tomorrow (even if you do) say something like "I'll have the first stage of sketch into by such and such" I normally give myself half a week. If something comes up let the client know ahead of time. Put your work in a temp folder with the date deadline as the name, etc. I'm REALLY bad at remembering things so I have a lot of backup plans to remind me. If I had a phone I'd even use a schedule ap with an alarm if I could lol. If they keep this bad habit of not updating a client and throwing out bad quality and/or incorrect art from what a client asked for...sooner or later you'll just have no clients. I get it's hard to give bad news to a client if you're behind, haven't made progress like you were hoping, mental issues + irl stuff happens. I have some friends I've sadly "ghosted" the past few months because I just wasn't mentally okay to get back to them. BUT when work/money is involved you NEED to force yourself vs ignoring these clients, they put their faith and money into commission you. Also set a limit of how many commissions you can do at a time! GAAH, I can NOT have a backlog of clients because of my memory, I know my limits. Sadly 5 clients at a time is my limit...Longest time I've taken on a commission was almost a year and that was either a vtuber commission (first time) or a client I had to do 20+ drawings for. Even then I updated the heck out of them, even on days I didn't have progress when asked. I hope the artist does better with how then manage things. Edit: 37:03 Yeah, I don't think this artist was/is a scammer they are just really bad at being a commissioned artist XD I don't know how long they've been at this or new to being commissioned artist yet to find their correct stride. Wish people made the artist accountable sooner though so it wouldn't have come to them being called out by all these past/current clients all at once. Sometimes it is worth it talking to the artist and put your foot down to correct the bad work ethics =shrug= so call outs like this doesn't happen if they aren't a scammer. If putting your foot down doesn't change things then yeah blast away I guess on twitter with your warnings lol. 39:32 Oh...hmm no idea what happened there lol to confused questions as if a commission was being requested. Not sure that ever happened to me so can't even relate to this weird misundersanding.

I’m an artist and this is just based off ME and some friends who are also artists but its mostly because It makes it easier for artists to understand what they’re drawing, kinda like how construction workers use blue prints to pinpoint details in what they are building. With just a drawing of the front or a drawing of the general character, artists can get confused because what if the ocs owner they want to get something where the character is facing away or to the side of our perspective? Reference sheets make it easier to understand and even highlight some key details people usually would miss with just a regular front drawing which has happened to Ocs I have who don’t have reference sheets This is just based off me though and there could be another reason for others to do so!

isnt it illegal to not refund if u dont receive a product/product isnt as described ? so artist having "no refund" i think thats not 100% legal, while i understand some scenarios where the work has been done a parcial is better depending on the circumstances. but im pretty use to refuse any compensation for not reciving anything/not as advertised is illegal

this happened to me!! it went on for like 8 months tho! and the art i got was not what i wanted:(

Hey, I'm new to this. Considering how long it would take to make a full body illustration isn't asking for $49 a bit low?
@lurincustodio3780Ай бұрын
It's kinda, but it depends on. The level of the artist and how much or little they consider their art to be worth of. Considering this is a character reference sheet, it must at least have front and back view of the character, but that the artist decide to charge 50$ for that it's not really the clients fault

as someone who has had thair hardrive wipe all thair files/art 2 times once very recently with a almost finished com yes it is very frustrateing but it dosnt give the artist the right to ghost the commissioner i recently let my commissioner know that ill be redoing there com bc my hardrive wiped my art that along with getting owed art finished dispite what happened.if you take a commission and dont want to refund then finish the com plane and simple :3

Why is it always these scammers getting so many comms but genuin people wont get this many????
@doghugs6840Ай бұрын
if u lose files, ur clients are the first people u should be contacting directly so they can understand the delay, their lie was so obvious it hurts. edit: i didnt kno i felt the need to say this but NOT EVERY ARTIST ARE MEANT TO TAKE COMMISSIONS I REPEAT NOT EVERY ARTIST IS MEANT TO TAKE COMMISSIONS AGAIN, NOT EVERYONE CAN TURN THEIR HOBBIES INTO BUSINESS PLS STOP ASSUMING U CAN HANDLE TAKING COMMISSIONS/BEING A FREELANCE ARTIST AS IT STILL REQUIRES PROFESSIONALIZM AND EXPERIENCE

I’m currently struggling to get a commission I paid for from Studio Heartbreak Artist Tanjeronie. It’s like pulling teeth to try to get a response from them. This is why I hate commissioning people. Have been waiting for since June for 5 expressions 😅

christ- that’s almost half a year at this point. I see your comment was 3 weeks ago; have you gotten any progress since then ?

I’ll say this again, this bothers me every time I see these videos and posts because especially now a days people work hard for their money. And these scams make it hard for actual artists like me trying to get work!

While this does seem really suspect, outside of this specific person not communicating n lying n shit, a month REALLY isnt that much to wait especially with a queue, at least in furry spaces which is what im experienced in.

"Your harddrive yeets your files" Well lesson learned, have backups Also do you not use the Recycle Bin? Unsure of how a simple delete would unrecoverably delete files
