My man, lemme break it down cuz you and I in the same place rn w/WATW. Paul Simon (guy before Kenny Rogers) is the other half of 'Simon & Garfunkel' known for their harmony. I'd suggest 'Scarborough Fair' if you want that little white dude to blow your mind vocally. Think Everly Brothers but folk instead of rockabilly. James Ingram is before Tina Turner but all I really remember him from was the cute little song from 'American Tale' which he sang with Linda Ronstadt. Al Jarreau is before Springsteen and is responsible for the first beatboxing. He was a disaster for the entire filming as he was intoxicated and kept singing over Willie's lines. Huey Lewis sings before Cyndi Lauper, he's famous for his acting work in Back to the Future (he played the music teacher auditioning Marty McFly who told him that his music was 'just too loud') as well as the soundtrack. Huey's got a killer chest vocal so you should check out 'Power Of Love,' 'Back in Time,' 'If This Is It,' 'The Heart of Rock n' Roll'...check it, and he's SO FUNNY, too! Kim Carnes sings after Cyndi and has an INCREDIBLE voice even though it sounds like she doesn't here. If you look up we are the world on youtube it'll show you their rehearsals, too. Kim's famous for 'Bette Davis Eyes.' VERY cool song. Bob Dylan sings a little...different...being folk but I'd have you check out 'Blowin' in the Wind,' 'The Times They Are A-Changin',' 'Like a Rolling Stone if you want a window into Bob's style. I've seen people lose their minds over his lyrics alone. Stevie arranged what you heard him sing cuz he had NO IDEA how he was going to make his tiny little half a line 'his own.' You know they did a Netflix documentary on this night, right? 'Greatest Night in Pop Music' - it's excellent, Lionel Richie, Ken Kragen, lighting/camera crew, Sheila E., Bruce Springsteen, Kenny Loggins and others appear and narrate. It's awesome. They said in it that Stevie Wonder was playing the song the first time through with everyone there around the piano and all the soloists sang and all could do was hear all the different voices and the look on his face...brought me to tears. It's just such a cool story that SO MUCH SHIT had to come together for these guys to be able to do this the same night as the AMAs, which Lionel both hosted and swept I believe 6 awards that night? Everybody had to record the song that night otherwise it was gonna be a logistical nightmare. They were all in town. It was perfect. Oh and yes, Billy Joel is 'Piano Man!'

I also find most don’t know Bob Dylan. Mind Blowning! It’s been almost 40 years since the release. Can you image 40 years from now in the year 2064 and reactors are completely blank on who Taylor Swift is, don’t recognize her appearance or her vocals?! That’s how my generation (age 52, grew up in the 80’s), feels when people don’t recognize Bob Dylan and many others. The really amazing thing about this song is that they were able to get so many legends into one room. Every single one of those solo singing artists is a true legend with a catalog of top #1 hits behind them, and every singer in the mass group is a legend in their own right as well. You should check out the Wikipedia page on the song and go through all of the artists featured on this track. That's what makes this song, even in its simplicity, so iconic.

PLEASE, Paul Simon, standing next to Kenny Rogers, has won awards for the duo Simon and Garfunkel who wrote and sung "Bridge Over Troubled Water", ALSO as a solo artist has a fabulous song "GRACELAND", which also garnered many awards! Please consider reacting to this Paul Simon mega hit! THANK YOU! From Minnesota.

Nice job! I believe you have a good understanding of why this was so important to us when it came out.

I remember this...a time when people actually cared about one another even if they were on the other side of the world

That was a good reaction! Man, this song came out when I was a kid, and I still get goose bumps just seeing these big stars together! I think you didn’t say anything when Huey Lewis was singing. You definitely should listen to Huey Lewis and The News- Hip to be square, Power of Love (from Back to the future), The Heart of Rock and Roll, Heart and Soul, New Drug, If this is it-just to name a few songs 😁

More people should go back after a few years a re watch this. I think this is GREAT!!!. First time I watch this like 100y ago I didn't know who Steve Perry (JOURNEY) was. Now I know every Journey song 😁

It is even more powerful when you think of the legacy each entertainer has given us and several that are no longer with us, Kenny Rogers, James Ingram, Ray Charles, Al Jarreau, Tina Turner, and of course, MJ!

You weren’t disrespectful on your initial reaction at all lol. It’s really cool to see how many you recognize now.😊 The shorter man next to Kenny is Paul Simon. He has a solo career and he was the Simon in Simon and Garfunkel.😊 Edit So, still listened but posted my comment before you figured out who Paul Simon is 😁
