Turnover have released "Myself in the Way", an album that is once again receiving middling praise from fans and critics. In this video I briefly talk about why I still love turnover's music, even their most recent albums.

“Would you really wanna hear PV over and over and over again?” My brother in Christ, that is exactly what I do. Haha but really, I’m a huge fan of good nature and altogether, but myself in the way didn’t grab me whatsoever. Not sure what it is. Maybe this video will get me to give it another shot.

Hahaha you know I’m worried that eventually we’ll come back to this video and realize that what we’re getting is “Altogether” over and over again.

PV is the reason I got into Turnover, but these days I'm far more likely to want to listen to Altogether or MITW. They're more upbeat and fun, with a greater variety of instruments and sounds. Thanks for the analysis

Altogether is my dad's favourite Turnover album, and I will also defend it until I die. Funky as hell with strong vibes, and the songs are really good. It has no stinkers, the entire tracklist is gold.

PV is still my favorite Turnover album, but Altogether became my 2nd favorite album during my time in college. "Parties" still brings me back to the times I've met incredible friends and partners at bars/parties despite my social anxiety 🖤

Myself in the Way is fire, it's like Psychedelic Sade-worship. Definitely my favorite album they've put out since PV, it does elevate them to the next degree, and may even be another masterpiece, IMHO. I'd recommend anyone giving it a few more listens if you weren't feeling it at first, it may grow on you 😉

After Eric Soucy “left,” it just wasn’t the same. PV was so intricate and all of us who listened to it seemed to be filled with nostalgia and uncertainty that Austin himself was feeling when he was 25. I was also in my early twenties, graduating college when PV was released. So I very much latched on to it. GN was good. But after Eric’s departure, things just didn’t feel right.

I was very disappointed with Altogether so hearing MITW was a refreshing surprise. Good Nature has a lot of leftover influence from Peripheral Vision, but it’s still pretty obvious that PV will always be the smash hit of Turnover’s career. I’m sure the band has accepted that too at this point. Shoegaze was revived thanks to their desire to experiment. Similar albums I can recommend to PV purists are: “I don’t care how you remember me” by Tigers Jaw “Hyperview” by Title Fight “Love Lives in the Body” by Soft Blue Shimmer “Dance on the Blacktop” by Nothing

Myself in the Way is a beautiful album imo. I think Peripheral Vision is a masterpiece but it also has nostalgia working for it. I'll never skip a song off PV but I'm not the same person I was in 2015, I don't want to live in the past, and I think Turnover doesn't want to either. MITW blew my socks off, it's so fresh and innovative imo.

Let's be real - I like their music. I doubt they are saying, "oh, here's a another hit like 'Humming, but we can't release it because we want a different sound on this album." I think they are kind of letting the wind (or the sound) blow them to new places. Music is personal, if they wanted to stay in a certain genre they could have, and then what happens is you keep writing to get more money to support your spending. But i get this feeling they are still figuring out exactly who they want to be. This is one band where I'll ALWAYS check out their latest and greatest because when the write a hit - they, you, me and everybody instantly knows it. Keep going!

This! I also believe they will chart something very good in the future in terms of reception. I see that they have been shaping different attributes of their sound at different albums - they have a very wide set of abilities by now. Who knows what will come (be it in the form of Turnover or Getz by himself).

I'd argue that the songwriting on their past two albums is not as good as their first three. They are both really missing Eric Soucey's input.
@Zealant

Most people probably don’t want to talk about it, but this is true. I hope it’s one day decided that he’s been ‘accountable’ enough to return to a band, specifically this one. However, Eric Soucy was not in the band during the first album.

I’m in love with Turnover’s evolution in music! Every album to me that they have put out has been authentic and creates a vibe nonetheless. They have a lot of creative influences from many genres so it’s no doubt that they would experiment and expand their sound. PV got me hooked by them but the other albums I absolutely love just the same. Excited to see what they create next!!!

The only record I didn't genuinely enjoy is MITW. I love PV, GN and Altogether to death, they all have their own different style and I listen to all of them at different moods. PV is the emo album for when you're feeling kinda moody, or the weather's meh. GN is perfect for summer car rides, or sunny car rides in general, and Altogether is just a super fun album with lovely upbeat songs and a very nice discoish retro sound to it.

I’ve only heard the altogether album the whole way through. I love this album though and it’s made me want to check out their other stuff. I heard songs off of this album at a time when I fell in love really hard and I felt like the sound and lyrics captured that feeling and those moments of love so well. So I’m probably bias. But I do love altogether. It always reminds me of a time when I was happy

When talking about Turnover, especially in the scope of pop-punk, you cannot fail to mention their pre-Magnolia self-titled 5 song EP of raw pop-punk excellence. Their demo before that is even more pop-punk, though I can understand failing to mention that as it's not on any streaming platforms; you have to find it on KZbin. Their 2 songs on the split with Citizen still had a bit of a pop-punk vibe, but that was when the emo undertones began to shine through a bit brighter (or darker, I should say), lighting the way of their departure from the genre. I am 30 seconds into this video and I already know you don't know what you're talking about. PLAY SASHA!!!

I always figured if they just did albums like PV over and over the fans would flip the other way and say "they dont ever change their sound" or " they just keep cash grabbing from their most successful album." Myself in the way has grown on me in a weird way
