While Hurrems plan was good because Selim was weak( back then) nobody would try to kill him like Mehmet because they underestimated him, however she ignored Bayezid jealousy over Selim as well as their rivalry which indirectly doomed them both because while Selim was victorious Bayezid died and Selim was broken in the end

Interesting that Mihrimah first try to convince Hurrem to spare Mustafa life ( even if after she try to poison him and betrayed him) and he is "only" his half brother. But when Bayezid and Selim began to want to eliminate themselves, Hurrem naturally did not want to get rid of one of her sons. But Mihrimah was disagreed with her and was in favour of getting rid of Selim. This is one of the great points of divergence between her and her mother. So that's why one of the reasons that makes me think that Mihrimah and Hurrem are not as similar as those around them think. P.S: One of the problem of Hurrem is that even during season 2 she had focused too much on Mustafa (understandable) but neglected the growing animosity between Bayezid and Selim (example in episode 48 we see that Selim and Bayezid are already starting to argue while they are training with the sword, there is only Mehmed to reprimand them. Hurrem who is next to Mustafa is too busy making veiled threats to him and vice versa).
