When it comes to all of the conflicts with the Stargazers and Observers, the inescapable deaths at the Gladiator Island, and the looming Great Disaster, it almost feels like the so-called “antagonist” of Arc 7 is the very concept of fate itself, which Ubilk is a stand-in for. The close relationship between this arc and fate, a notion that has been prevalent from the very beginning of the series, is something that often goes unmentioned or unexplored when people discuss or critique it. Though it only happened a couple of times throughout the video, it was pretty sick to hear your thoughts on the interactions that certain characters have had with fate. Of course, this whole video cooked. Also, can you believe that people say that Arc 8 is boring and will have no overarching consequences for the series when we have still have major plotlines that will impact the future to deal with like Subaru's infantilization, Rui's relationship to the Witch Cult, the cooking with Garfiel that has been steadily building up since Volume 32, the ramifications of Royal Selection camps visiting foreign nations, what Heinkel and Priscilla choose to do, the four country destroying disasters, Sphinx's mere presence as the one raising zombies and how she may impact other characters (Including Omega), the opportunity for us to finally gain a greater understanding of Al's identity, and probably _more_ things that I'm forgetting? It's kinda crazy and sad how people are devaluing just how much Arc 8 has going on for it, *even if we limit the criteria to main cast members* who will continue to appear in future arcs.

However, Garfiel was supposed to have his named chapter in the original version of Arc 7, before it was altered to take place in Vollachia. However, seeing as the main antagonist is someone who shares her appearance with his grandmother figure... It's a safe bet to guess that he'll get his own dedicated chapter filled with peak fiction. (Arc 8 spoilers below) Anastasia's looking for someone, you say? She was originally helping in the search for Subaru, but now that there's need for that, she just acting as an emissary for Kararagi's League of Cities in response to the PPZ-style zombie attack that took the lives of 2000 people and the Great Disaster's zombies in Vollachia. Wasn't that right, or was there an implication that pointed to something else?

Anyhow, this would mean that it's limited to this part of the story and it won't extend in Arc 9. As for whether or not it has already happened... I'm not sure. We'll need to wait and see. Q: Mr. Cat’s favorite story is which chapter of which arc? (Both in the normal liking it sense, and in the super-sadistic sense) A: It’ll come around arc 7. There's also another Q&A about the scene he wants to write most being in Arc 9 or Arc 10, which you can find by checking the arc pages on the Re:Zero Wiki. All of the future arcs have their own pages with sources for what the author has said regarding future events.

@@barzap6190 This is from a reddit post I made awhile ago, it's my semi complete Flugel theory. Flugel is Natsuki Kenichi Subaru's father. One of the big themes I've noticed in Re-Zero is the importance of parents. The very first quest that Emilia and Subaru accomplish together is helping a father find their lost child. From there basically every conflict in the series has parents at the root. Before the series even starts Subaru's main conflict is wanting to live up to his ideal father (forshadowing if I'm correct). There's Elsa relation with her creator that turns her into an assassin plus her relationship with Mother. Rem and Ram and their father, Roswaal, Beatrice and Echidna, Garfiel and Emilia etc.. There's also a lot of weird lines referring to Subaru's dad. Here's a couple ; End of Arc 2 Subaru Ram and Beatrice are discussing the origin of Subaru's name and he reveals that he's named after a star. Beatrice responds "What type of cruel person would name you after a star?" In a Q&A Tappei says that Kenichi was planning to bring Subaru to his job to help bring him out of his depression, but in the Puck side story Subaru reveals he doesn't know what his dad does for a living. Kenichi puts Subaru in an arm bar when they are wrestling the same move Shaula puts Subaru in. All the archbishops are named after stars and all are in possession of authorities, coincidentally Subaru is in the same situation what's the connection? They're all named by the same person. When discussing the another world in the watchtower Emilia floats the idea that it maybe possible for Subaru to return to his original world if he flys across the Great Waterfall on the back of a dragon. Who do we know is friends with a dragon and from another world? It's heavily implied by Vollacanica that he has flown across the Great Waterfall before. There's a bunch of other hints hidden throughout the story keep my theory in mind if you decide to reread.

@@SomeKindOfDraculayeah but I don’t think The Great Waterfall acts like some sort of gateway. I think thats what the natives of the world interpret the waterfall as but nothing more. I also don’t think that could be possible, because if that’s the case, Satella would have summoned Kenichi instead of Subaru if she was in love with kenichi it seems pretty dumb for satella to summon subaru to her world. I still think Flugel is Subaru from the future but I try not to think about Flugel very much and just wait for Tappei to drip feed me info about him because the more I theorize about it and think about it, whatever Tappei decides to go through with will hit much much less than I want it to.

@@sungjin-woo3894 I see why you would think that way about the Great Waterfall but what I would say is that the thing about Dragons flying over the Great Waterfall came from Emilia no one else ever mentioned it so that was always weird to me. I don't think it's necessarily a portal just the edge of their world since the Re:Zero world is flat. Also ask yourself where all the information about the Great Waterfall comes from. There are only two confirmed characters from the other side Subaru and Flugel who lived 400 years ago. So where did all the information about the Waterfall come from if it's not related to Flugel. As for it being dumb that Stella summoned Subaru instead of Flugel I actually think its like the last piece of a puzzle. For some reason Subaru is in possession of the Envy witch factor despite never having meet the WOE, when did he acquire it? Maybe he got it sometime after he arrived in the Re:Zero world or maybe he got it after traveling in time to the past, but what makes the most sense to me is that he's always had it, and he received it from the person who would most likely be in possession of the Envy factor Flugel. Stella was trying to summon the person in possession of her witch factor which should have been Flugel, but he either intentionally or unintentionally passed that factor over to his son, creating the only possible throughline between Stella and Subaru. It just checks all the boxes. So as much as I support the theory of Flugel being Kenichi I'm equally as dismissive of the Subaru=Flugel theory, for a couple of reasons. For starters Re:Zero is a story full of time traveling but when Subaru travels in time every single thing he does can completely alter the future, the butterfly effect is fully present throughout the story. So Subaru is supposed to travel 400 years in the past and do all the things Flugel did, without knowing what happened and somehow end up at the present timeline. I don't see how that would work unless his memory gets erased again. There's also some major character differences between Flugel and Subaru that are irreconcilable. Subaru made a vow not to screw people over to get his desired future, so to be Flugel he would have to create the Witch Cult knowing they would all become monsters, he would have to lock Shaula away in the tower knowing that she would die as soon as they meet again, and so on. Subaru would either have to completely regress as a character or have his memory erased to become Flugel.

its kind of ironic i see people talk about “media literacy” in the re zero community very often. i love the community, ive been around since basically the beginning of the english side of re zero. but im not lying when i see most re zero fans are a little pretentious and full of themselves thats why its really refreshing seeing your take on the series. you actually understand what tappei is going for, and criticize shit that makes sense. i dont always see the criticisms you have, but i understand why you think them and they’re super reasonable. and obviously i dont want to watch videos just to see someone have the same opinion as me. and these vids are so well made. at first i watched ur stuff cuz id been away for some time. like 2 years and i wanted a refresher on arc 5-7.5. but then i started coming back after every phase. you always catch stuff i missed and make connections i didn’t see. im really excited to see what you think of beginning of arc 8! so. damn. good. i was always an arc 7 believer and now i see the vision. it was a perfect setup to everything. and arc 8 is the payoff, i always wondered why the name of both arcs were a little lame compared to other arcs. but i see the significance of it now. such a genius transition

chaosflame was almost completely destroyed, mostly due to satella but yorna also “sacrificed” her city to blow up satellas shadow. or maybe just her castle, i dont remember. but she chose to save her people instead of holding onto her city because they can always rebuild. then abel and co, which was chaos flame citizens, yorna, al, medium, taritta, etc went back to guaral city. which was the place subaru and abel crossdressed and gained the support of zikr, the afro simp dude. rem, flop, and priscilla had stayed behind. coincidentally, the emilia camp also arrived. which was emilia, garfiel, beatrice, petra, otto, frederica. ram and roswaal were doing other shit. guaral was attacked by madelyn, she kidnapped flop and rem since flop knew someone important to her and rem could heal flops grievous wounds. emilia camp barely missed them but saved the city. then abel showed up and had readied himself to attack the capital, which is where this phase and the last take place. chisha and bersetz had betrayed him and taken the throne. so abel was gonna take it back now he gathered so many factions over the course of arc 7. emilia camp also had reason go there, since they figured out rem was taken there. and subaru may likely end up there too because of all the things going. thats whats basically going one. during all this, subaru was teleported to gladiator island. he conquered it, as our goat usually does, gained their loyalty after typical subaru suffering and now charged onto the battlefield. angry at abel for stringing him along and manipulating things. subarus main goal was to show up, save as many lives as possible, and fuck up whatever is going on here. however, he is too late. abel was already winning the battle, especially after beatrice stopped vincent/chishas only trump card. so he was asking him to stop. only for chisha to take the death that was prophesied. basically, chisha did all that to save vincent. he played the role of villain for this purpose

If we're going by the power system in re zero then given the amount battle experience Al should be on the same level as Heinkel 18 years of battle experience combined with the time spent looping should make him stronger Of course being Heinkel level would make him strong enough to handle normal enemies but weak enough to die against higher opponents like Subaru would You could become even stronger by dropping the mindset of using lives and actually striving to become stronger. It would be similar to how Julius's change in prospective allowed him to become stronger

I will say that when interjections or interpretations that reflect real world politics kinda takes me out of the masterfully crafted immersion. Kinda like the Schwarz stuff. If the squad didnt have to pass as women, I’m sure whatever false identity subaru assumed would have become the crutch he uses to cope with his own inadequacy and self hatred. I can also relate to some degree with the guy.
