this song is about Syd barrette the founder of Pink Floyd who had mental and drug problems and was forced out of the band because he could not function this is a dedication to him and how much they miss him. The song Wish you are Here is about Syd and other songs. Listen to the album Piper at the Gates of Dawn and you can hear why they called him crazy diamond

Big Pink Floyd Fan Here 👋♥️. I’ve been listening to them for over 40 years now and their Music Never Gets Old. It Is Timeless and capable of Actually Entering Your Heart and Touching A Tiny Piece Of Your Soul ♥️. Sometimes a Part You Didn’t Even Know You Had ♥️. This song is a Tribute to their Fellow Mate and Founding Band Member Sid Barrett. Early on in the band’s History I guess he was experimenting with Psychedelic Drugs and went on A Frightening Trip that his Mind Could Never Come Back From. Hence the words in the song, Never Know Where You Are How Near Or How Far. I heard he Committed Himself to Mental Asylum in the UK somewhere. He was allowed out for visits and frequently showed up at the band meetings and rehearsals. I also heard he passed away a few years ago. You Must Listen To Their Song On The Turning Away ♥️. It will definitely make you cry so be sure to have tissues ♥️. Still gets me today 💔.

Great reaction. You're in for a real treat if you keep diving deeper into the transcendent music of Pink Floyd. All the songs of this great Pulse concert are fantastic and well-worth reacting to. Also, check out these beautiful songs from their early albums: Julia Dream, Cirrus Minor, Remember A Day, The Narrow Way (part III), and Fat Old Sun. Also: Echoes, live at Gdansk. You won't be disappointed.

This piece of music has an amazing amount of importance to people. It is a tribute to its subject, the former member of Pink Floyd, Syd Barret. Who never recovered his sparkle following a bad experience with drugs. So it is emotional because of the back story. But it is also an exceptional piece, because of how it is structured, It has an introduction that builds and builds an enormous space, before even the first word is sung. Keep Listening/Reacting.

French composer Claude Debussy was right when he said: “Music is also the space between the notes.” Pink Floyd's songs master both notes and silences.

When the legend himself, David Gilmour, is playing his guitar there are no lyrics needed. The guitar simply speaks to you.

Great reaction! I would recommend "The Great Gig in the Sky," the studio version from the album The Dark Side of the Moon 1973. There is also a live version, with different lead singer(s) from the Pulse concert 1994. Both are great. Some people react to both in one video, and that would be great, but please do the studio version first. Thanks and God bless.

The original vocalist, Clare Torrey, in Great Gig is better than anyone that has tried to “sing” the song. If you listen to Great Gig please listen to the studio version first.
