Never done a match but found this really entertaining and weirdly interesting, surprisingly a few lessons learnt for normal fishing. Oh and a maths lesson ! Thanks 👍

They're good fun. Makes catching otherwise unimpressive fish quote good fun. The social aspect is a bonus too.

Always great quality/editing Tom. Now know why I don't match fish ...that was hard for a load of tiddlers 😅 !! How can so many fish weigh so little in comparison to other numbers caught. Guess on or off sizeable/dogs . Manic but enjoyable watch we'll done "Team Tom"

Good video of you and Darren fishing together work well as a team a lot of fish and it's a shame you had a lot of undersized fish but you tried. Nice to see quite a few anglers fish these matches. 🐟👍

Club matches are a great, fun way to spend an evening. Not too serious, plenty of banter and hopefully a bit of fishing to enjoy.

@@FishyTom yeah it looks like they’ve had our autumn weather this year. at our last club match the decimal scales showing pound and ounces caused a bit of confusion on the cards!

You make them pretty comical and don't mind taking the p155 out of yourself etc along with helpful tips and advice on the venues and species you target 👌

I'm learning so much from your videos. Especially smaller hooks. One question thou, how you do choose whether you use a wormer hook or a Aberdeen style?

That's a great question, thank you. There is an awful lot of personal preference with hooks. I love wormers, I think the hook up rate is exceptional on them and they're easier to unhook than an Aberdeen. Aberdeens are easier to bait up with worms if you don't use a baiting needle. If you're not using worms, just bits of fish or squid etc, then wormer patterns are ideal. For "pecky" feeding fish, like bream and wrasse for example, shorter shanked hooks are definitely better. Shorter shanks are stronger too (Try bending a long bit of wire in your hands, then a short piece of the same wire, you'll see what I mean). My main bit of advice would be to try as many hooks as you can. You'll eventually find ones you really like and have loads of confidence in.
