Growing up my parents didn't have a lot of money. For Christmas it was: something to wear, something we want, something we need and something to read. My grandparents took care of the stockings which was mostly fruit and candy. I have fond memories of those days and still have some of the books from my childhood and I am 75 now.

My parents were poor too. I would get my yearly supply of new underwear, socks, a box of chocolate covered cherries and a small toy. Honestly Christmas was terrible but it was because my parents were very angry, miserable people, abusive. The poor part didn’t bother me so much.

Honestly, it’s really comforting to hear Jinger say she doesn’t feel her age. If a woman with a husband, kids, book contracts, house, etc doesn’t feel her age, it makes me, a 28-year-old with no husband or kids or house, feel a bit better about also struggling to feel my age.

I’m not a frequent flyer but the last time I flew was from LAX to Philadelphia (on Southwest). For the first leg of the flight I was able to sit with my adult disabled son. But for the last leg, the seats were filled so my son and I could not sit together. I spoke to one of the flight attendants and explained how my son is on the Autism Spectrum and has Type 1 Diabetes. She was so kind, she got on the speaker and offered an alcoholic beverage to someone willing to give up their seat so that my son could sit with me. Boy, did those hands go up quickly! 😂

Jinger, speaking of your upbringing. Don't ever be ashamed of your unique childhood. God brought you through it so that you would be the unique, lovely, special person that you have become. I am currently on a health journey and have been losing a lot of weight in the process. I am following a strict medical food program to help me do it. Every single year in the past, my mom would make me a homemade yellow cake with her chocolate buttercream frosting. This past year, I asked her not to make it since it wasn't on my diet plan. I didn't want to derail my progress for the sugar. To be honest, I didn't really miss the cake at all. What I did miss, was the special effort that my mom would put into making the cake for me. I think she was a bit sad to not do it, but understood that it was better for my health if I didn't have it, which in turn made her feel even better about it. It was a huge loss of tradition, but I am glad that the sacrifice has yielded great results. Jeremy and Jinger, please pray that I continue on my health journey and can persevere to get to my goal weight. ✝️🙏🏼

That is a felt hat, really only suitable when it's a bit colder outside. During the summer, you need a straw hat. If you are ever in Northeast Texas, go to Crazy House Western Wear in Reno, TX. Ask for either Clay or Justin and they will fit you in a hat and shape it for you, as long as it isn't already pre-shaped. They also sell authentic cowboy boots, and you will be properly fitted. I used to work there. They are family owned and they are a great place to get your boot and hat needs.

Well…Jeremy and Jinger , I fly Southwest all the time, over 30 years. You do not book on SW by group, and the price of your ticket is not determined by group. You do not get your group assignment until you check-24 which is within 24 hours of your flight. The you get your group and number. The one exception is if you want to beat that, you can pay extra (usually $15-30, depending on how far out you book) at any time and get assigned in A1-15. E.g. I have a flight tomorrow at 1:30 p.m. I checked at 1:30 on the dot when check-in opened. I am B-3.

The last time my parents ever tried to give me cake for my birthday was when I was three years old, lol, every year since then it was always vanilla ice cream instead because I absolutely hated cake but loved vanilla ice cream so if we ever had cake for my birthday it was only for everyone else celebrating and I would always blow out candles stuck in my ice cream. Also, as a kid my favorite birthday was when I turned eight because I got roller skates and we had a celebratory dinner with friends and family out on the porch just shooting the breeze and then we attempted to catch crickets and fireflies out in the backyard, it’s one of my favorite memories because the weather was absolutely perfect and the night seemed to last forever and I enjoyed everyone’s company.
