Exactly. Good Journalists need to be curious, able to use the socratic method, to challenge there beliefs and make an attempt to present the truth. Like so many of this new wave of activists who we see marching in hate mobs on university campuses or in London every week, these activists working for BBC, CNN, Sky UK, NYT or The Guardian have no curiosity but are full of hate and a desire to impose "justice" on there audiences. It is true that a free press is a pillar of democracy and we are in danger of losing it, but it is this new generation of activist journalists that are endangering our democracy rather than Trump.

Yeah, stick to the facts, that's what being a journalist is. It's not about your opinion, if you don't like that, you should have become a novelist. Newspapers should follow the same approach. It used to be you'd have 'the news' which was supposed to be just the facts, and not out-of-context, cherry-picked quotes to serve your agenda (pretending to be unbiased reporting), and then SEPARATELY you had your 'pundits' that were transparent about their political affiliation, and when you read their piece you knew it was left or right leaning. This is why a show like 'Crossfire' use to exist and be a thing - you'd have two opinionated journalists debating their side. But of course corporate overlords don't like it that way, do they, Bari?

There is nothing more depressing for someone who believes in democracy, than to hear those journalists , believers in free speech, and supposedly in a position to uphold it, resigned enmasse because their newspaper owner decided that people should be allowed make their own choice in this election. And not be indoctrinated into one candidate. My great grandfather fought in WW2. He was a French final year medical student, studying in London at the time, and was one of 100 medical students sent to help the starving and dying . I never knew him, but my grandfater told me he never got over how human being were capable of such cruelty, and he said the Nazis indoctrinated, not just their soldiers, but a nation, and he said that was the most frightening thing of all. Brava! This is why I’m a subscriber. I’m a 67 yo libertarian leaning independent. I’m “Hispanic”, bi-lingual and believe in progress while respecting Chesterton’s Fence. Keep doing the good work. And no matter who wins on Tuesday (or whenever we work out the results) keep an open mind and stick to your first principles.

If we apply Chesterton’s fence to abortion, then there’s no reason to be against it. At the very least it should be available for babies born with disabilities so they won’t pass it on. Anti-abortionism is a religious conviction.

Same. I'm an independent. This year, I'll be voting for kamala. Sam Harris articulates exactly what I feel

The takeaway is: Be careful what you wish for. Just a few years ago commentators were saying too many Americans are not involved in their democracy and warned that it could be taken away. Well, people are now involved with heightened awareness. I guess all this debate and emotion is what our founding fathers envisioned.

It is beyond me how the NYT allowed you to leave. I never thought in my lifetime I would see real journalistic integrity. It is my honor to read and listen to you and your colleagues. Stay strong. 👍
