SFDK is my home park and I've been EXTREMELY frustrated with operations and choices they've made around the park. Multiple rides/coasters have not opened in over a year for no reason. If your wondering, Joker would have been a better RMC but apparently they didn't want to pay the fee to make Joker a "new structure" to the city, so it ONLY uses old structure and wasn't allowed to deviate from the original layout as much as it should've.
@asskakakaka2 ай бұрын
I was gonna mention this as well. It would've been millions of extra dollars to modify the cutrent layout all because of having to re certify the ride with the city. This has been confirmed by Ryan The Ride Mechanic. He helped design the rides control system and maintained the ride for many years.
@savag3chikn8512 ай бұрын
As a former passholder since 2018, it seems like ever since covid, every year the park goes downhill more and more, all rides are 1 train 24/7, it's a gamble if even a third of the rides will even be open, and the park is now maintained horribly. The park used to be amazing and maintained well.

i cannot truly put into words how much i dislike this park. My visit this year during coaster con asides from the backstage tours and meeting the dolphins was genuinely so displeasing and that's sad to say because the park has so much potential, but the operations, appearance (asides from the back section), food quality, and animal enclosures all combined to make it easily my least favorite park period. the saving grace of this park is medusa which is my favorite ride in the park and favorite floorless. I do hope the merger helps this park, because this park truly needs all the help it can get.

I totally agree. This park is definitely the worst I've been to, I have hope that the merger will help this park because I think it has the ability to be good. I was there during coaster con and decided to buy fast pass since the park was only open for 6ish hours plus ert. But even with ERT and fast pass, I barely managed to get on all the coasters (that were open) once, no flat rides or anything else. In comparison to SFMM which is my home park I was surprised at operations and lack of rides that were open. I really hope the merger helps this park, having two big parks in norcal is good, but I won't go back until theres a really good reason to

Thanks so much for an update on this park! The last time I visited was in 2006 for my 11th birthday. I purposely haven't visited for so long because of their previously deplorable conditions for their orca, elephant, and dolphin enclosures. They used to do elephant rides and would use electric cattle prods on the elephants (revealed in safety reports). Thankfully, the elephants were eventually sent to a sanctuary and the orca passed away or was sent to SeaWorld. Their mountain lions and cheetahs were a recent addition and I heard those areas had actually been improved, so I was considering going to Discovery Kingdom again. I will also give them a little credit in that they used to have a really cool and decent Walrus exhibit. As for the operations, I remember hearing even in 2006 that the coaster operations were not great even then, which is crazy! I think if they are able to upkeep the animal exhibits they have and add some new rides per Cedar Fair management, this park could really turn around. I drove past the park a week ago and saw the deteriorating 3D Iwerks theater from the highway. That's a big area where a small to medium sized coaster could go, especially if they rip out the Boomerang. Considering this park has been struggling since the late 90's however, it's an uphill battle. Here's a few old attractions they used to have; - Iwerks 3D theater that had a dinosaur show, with dinosaur statues outside. This did not last long into the Six Flags era from Marine World. - Sidewinder Safari took over the former elephant ride and exhibit area - There was a Tony Hawk ride. I think it was a Skateboard Disko or regular Disko. - There used to be a train that went along side the lake, it was themed to Thomas the Train for a few years. - Tigers were previously where the cheetahs are now - They used to have a Prairie Dog area near the Iwerks theater. There was a children's playground with cool tunnels, slides and foam pit nearby too. - A ski jumping and watersports boat show. I believe this also did not last into the Six Flags era long, as I remember it on the 2006 map but it may have just closed. - Aforementioned Orca whale show. I think the old stadium still stands, which is such a waste of space (Unless it's being used for the sea lion show you saw). It's great they have kept up the butterfly greenhouse, I'm sure those butterflies aren't cheap. Also Kai was a great addition I hope she makes an appearance again on Coaster Studios!

Glad you guys made another visit to my home park growing up. I have a very faint and vague memory of visiting this park back before they put in roller coasters when I was very young when they only had the animals. Fast forward to 1998 when Marine World added Boomerang (my first big steel coaster) and Kong (my first inverted coaster), that was huge and the place to go to. Then Six Flags bought out Marine World and just went crazy in the late 90's early 2000's when I felt like they were adding new coasters every weekend at the park ha ha. When they added Medusa it was incredible and a huge game changer for the Bay Area and gave people a big reason to visit Marine World instead of Great America. To be honest this park isn't that great. They have a good collection of roller coasters but I'd like to see them add at least a hyper and/or ideally a giga coaster in the future. They have a lake they could add a coaster on (similar to Mako at SeaWorld Orlando) and that would be pretty awesome if they did that. It's also ridiculous that Flash: Vertical Velocity is still down. They haven't had that ride running in sometime. I also hate the stupid height limit that the city of Vallejo has (no ride taller than 150 feet). It infuriates me when cities impose stupid height limits on roller coasters (hence why SFDK had to make adjustments to Flash by going out instead of up). I haven't gone back that much even though its still the park closest to me to this day. I wish the new Six Flags corporation will fight the city of Vallejo and do away with the dumb height limit and put in at least a hyper or a giga coaster. The Bay Area deserves that. If Carowinds has a hyper AND giga then there's no reason why SFDK shouldn't have at least one of those.

The way that this park went from eh, to really good, then had such an extreme decline after COVID really makes me so so sad. I have seen so many ride just disappear. Voodoo, Tasmanian Devil, Harley Quin, Hammerhead Shark, The 4D experience, The Penguin ride, Dare Devil loop coaster, and probably some others that I'm missing. All of those got torn out to never be replaced with ANYTHING. It makes me so sad because this park has so much potential in my eyes, but they don't seem to care about this park at all and won't try and fix it. The only stuff I've seen them put their money in was fixing the Butterfly and Shark exhibits, and Sidewinder Safari. And one random thing I do remember is that they had a random shed sitting by the kid's area on the path by the Shark exhibit that was a remnant of one of their Fright Fest season that was left there for what seemed like 6-8 YEARS. (Idk how long it actually was, but it was there for a while.) Anyway, Im really really hoping that the merging of Cedar Fair and Six Flags will bring more updates and fixes to this park. I want to see this park flourish like it did when I was younger. Back when they actually kept up on the maintenance and operations.

It just is not worth visiting in its current state… I really hope with Cedar fair coming in now and joining forces with Six Flags at this park gets a serious look at and they figure out the issues with how it’s being run and actually make it a worthwhile park to visit again.

I was here on a Tuesday and there was also no coaster without an hour line at least

something funny that if you look at the elements on joker and wildcats revenge, the elements are very similar but wild cat removes the lackluster turns with wave turns and increased the height and pacing.

My home Six Flags park for years, and one of the worst parks I’ve ever been to. Every single time I visit this park I’m let down in some way. More than half the rides closed? Terrible and expensive food? One train operations on everything even on slammed days? Rude employees? I’ve had one or more of these experiences during EVERY one of my visits to this place. I’m glad I lived 25 minutes away from CGA. I was spoiled having SFMM as my home Six Flags park during college. I will probably never return to SFDK unless they add something insane.

They need to get the fairgrounds across to expand. I live 10 minutes from the park and used to have a season pass. Lack of choice got old.

Is it bad that I’ve never ridden a single RMC, but have ridden The Rattler and Georgia Cyclone? I only have 46 credits lol

I was just there! We had to get the flash pass premium to ride everything at least twice. So glad Medusa had two trains running. I think joker needs two trains

Medusa was my first inverting coaster! And cobra was my first coaster.

When I was there in April, locals were telling me that there's a lot of crime in the parking lot. That I should be careful.

There used to be Tigers in the now cheetah exhibit. It had a pool and they would do the tiger shows there.

Hey! So I’m really looking for Coaster studios to reply to this but if anybody else knows please feel free to answer. How do you know if a coaster is going to be under refurbishment or not? Because the first time that we went to Knotts Berry Farm, Xccelerator, Montezooma, and Ghost Rider we’re all closed. Basically only had hang time. How can I avoid that from happening again?

Some parks post their ride closures on their websites, especially if it’s planned maintenance. If not, it’s really just trial and error or word of mouth.
