When I first became an enthusiast I used to come to this park every few weeks to hang out with the “CGA Squad” which consisted mostly of people I met on the day you first visited in July 2016. I really made some long-term friends that day and will always love and miss this park despite not living close to it anymore. What made me an enthusiast in the first place was realizing that Flight Deck and Patriot had the same track type, then looking them up and realizing they were made by the same company, and the rabbit hole began! Even if it’s not legal now, give it say, oh I dunno, 10 years. And the owners want in on that action.

@@Knaztr76 That doesn’t even make sense though. The city fully supports the park being there; Mayor Lisa Gillmor told me this personally at RailBlazer media day. It’s not like the city is forcing the park to close due to noise complaints. Prologis bought the land that CGA sits on because it’s prime real estate in the middle of Silicon Valley. Their closest office is in Milpitas, so why would they have anything to do with the noise complaints from nearby office buildings? Or are you saying that nearby office buildings told Prologis to buy the CGA site because they’re tired of noise? Because that’s absurd lol. Noise might have caused the park to grow slower than it otherwise could have, but I don’t really know how it would have anything to do with the park closing. It’s closing because the land it’s on is extremely valuable. The land was sold from underneath it to a completely separate entity. And I don’t know of any city that would allow a park to operate for 11 entire years before forcing it to close if it was getting noise complaints 😂

The park is on death row. CGA had like the lowest profit margins of any Cedar Fair park as cost to operate were through the roof (it's literally in Silicon Valley). Now they don't even own the land, so those margins would get even thinner. If it was making even 1/3 the profit Knott's makes, it might stand a chance, but it doesn't. It's only hope is Prologus reserves some of the land for a smaller, Lunar Park sized park that someone operates (probably not Six Flags). But CGA as we know it is dead.

CGA is a low profit park in the chain, battle for last or 2nd to last every year. CGA has the higher operating costs of Knotts being in CA, while not having the pricing power of Knotts nor the 4M+ attendance. Cedar Fair made more money selling the land than running the park for 15 years. Besides that they retained all the assets of the park to relocate or sell off. Cedar Fair made a great deal for a park that they never really wanted. They tried to get it out of the Paramount deal and tried to sell it off in the early 2010's, which fell thru at the last minute. The park is 100% closing,. Cedar Fair already paid. It's likely closure is 2027/2028 based on the financials and the accelerated depreciation they took on the assets of the park.

Interesting perspective on CGA. The big thing you didn't consider regarding why CGA will cose is how the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk is so much more popular CGA and the two parks are about an hour apart (with no traffic) so most South Bay people pick Santa Cruz rather than CGA. Discovery Kingdom is far enough away from Santa Cruz in the North Bay that it doesn't compete with the Boardwalk like CGA does so it makes more sense to keep that open, especially if the Solano County Fairgrounds next to Discovery Kingdom can be combined with Discovery Kingdom.

35:59 The city and mayor are BIG supporters of the park. I sat in on the city council meeting when the park was seeking approval for their 20-year plan way back in 2017 and you could tell they were proud to have the park in Santa Clara. I also talked to Mayor Lisa Gillmor in RailBlazer’s station on media day back in 2018 and she was super excited about the future growth of the park. I have a feeling that the city council will make it very difficult for anything to be built on the land, so let’s just hope that Cedar Fair/Six Flags executes their cancellation clause and don’t close the park at all 🤞🏼 it’s also strange that the park has gotten two new rides since the closure announcement and has done a lot of TLC to the place including polishing up/renovating restaurants, pathways and foliage. They did, however, cancel their Halloween event. 36:32 Yep, Orion was meant for CGA (in a different form due to the park’s 250-foot height limit). The ride existed and would have been built had it not been canceled. The cancellation was due to a few reasons including major management issues that I won’t go into.

The City Council will do anything Prologis wants, FYI, despite the lies the land isn't zoned amusement only. They can do many things without the City Council. there is nothing strange about the small additions, they don't want the parks finances to crater before they close it in 2027/2028. No Orion wasn't meant for CGA. The B&M production slot was meant for them, a different coaster design. FYI, CGA is a low profit park in the chain, battle for last or 2nd to last every year.

@@MCQ-fq6bv You should never compare Knotts to GA, they are both two different parks with two different perspectives to the entertainment industry. Like most parks, primarily the legacy Six Flags parks, they have their stand-out parks that people put over all the other parks and Knotts, knowing its amazing history starting off as a berry farm and transforming into a travel destination in the U.S. is uncompareable to CGA. Great America is simply just a park like many other parks in the new Six Flags chain. Its there for the locals (as the dozen other parks are). Its obvious that GA doesn't generate as much revenue for CF but it packs in attendance with 1.5 million+ in attendance annually, alongside Carowinds, Kings Dominion, and Dorney. GA isnt the worst park in the CF chain yet its not the best, its in the middle tier and there is other much worse SF parks that are way below CGA.

@triple7marc I know the finances CGA is either worst or 2nd worst CF park in finances annually in Ebidta and net income. The rest of your was alot of blather to say nothing relevant to the point at hand.

Yeah don’t close it but hopefully more attractions can be built. As a transit fan, it’s one of the only theme parks in this country that’s served by light rail. Mall wise, just like Six Flags Great America, there’s a Simon-Mills mall nearby, fully known as The Great Mall of the Bay Area🐧

Having been to this park recently and absolutely loved it I don't want it to close but at the same time that land is incredibly valuable and the Six Flags Company is in debt so its the choice keep California's Great America and risk the whole chain closing down or close California's Great America use the money to pay off the debts to save the rest of the chains parks when you put it in that context in makes logical sense why they want to sell. I hope they do change their mind on how to pay back that debt. Also I heard the stadium San Francisco 49ers are not the nicest to California's Great America they should stand up to them.

The park seriously needs another water ride! The height restriction also limits coaster development, but it’s definitely better maintained than Six Flags! I miss the Whizzer and Tidal Wave. Should have kept those!

Yeah the CGA Whizzer went away too soon way back in 1988.
