What do you think of this redesigned Ford Ranger? Would you tow with it?

Just picked my 24 up yesterday. Velocity Blue, 2.7 V6, XLT FX4. It's a big leap forward than my 19 Ranger XLT. The ride is more comfortable too.

That's EXACTLY what I'm considering to replace my 19 TRDOffroad. I have, and really want, a 6 ft bed. But I tow regularly, and the 3rd gen Taco is terrible. The new Taco (and most of the new midsize trucks) are far better than my Taco for towing. EXCEPT for payload.

Finally a Ranger review with towing an actual travel trailer! Well done sir 👍🏻

Ethan, That wider bed is perfectly suited for a S-T-R-E-T-C-H. How about a single cab version with an 8 foot bed? Ford could call it something really RETRO like....... F-100. 😉😉

Ranger Custom would be my pick.

I ordered a 2024 Ranger XLT with the same power train options - 2WD and advanced tow package. I have seen it hit as much as 29 mpg hwy and have been averaging about 23 mpg combined using eco mode - that is a good 10 to 12 mpg better than my old 2012 Ram 1500. The Ranger has surpassed my expectations and I really like how it rides and drives. The tailgate probably wouldn't hit the trailer hitch if you used a 1.5" to 2" drop-down. As for the ride, make sure the tires are inflated to the suggested amounts on the door. That helps reduce the jitteryness and harsh reactions over road imperfections. When I took delivery of my Ranger the tires were inflated to 45 psi which made the ride pretty harsh. I lowered the pressure and noticed an immediate improvement. And the ride continues to improve with break-in miles. I really love the infotainment screen and how it is integrated into the the dash. The position works fine for me and is plenty high enough for good visibility while driving. And I have no issues with the AC controls - both the manual controls and onscreen controls. My only complaint is Ford needs to refine the lane-keeping assist so it doesn't continually remind you to keep both hands on the steering wheel. Fortunately that can be turned off. As for the keypad on the door, I really didn't see much point in having that since you can unlock the doors using the Ford Pass app on.your phone.

Glad to hear you're liking your Ranger! I have heard some people like the keypad so they can leave keys/phone in the car when they go surfing, swimming, etc. Unfortunately I couldn't swap out the hitch with a lower one, the weight distribution hitch was perfectly dialed in at this height. Would've made the front of the trailer way too low 🤷♂️

Nice review! The keypad was available back in the 80's not 90's. And we find it to be a great feature for locking the keys inside for hikes or enjoying swimming holes without worrying about the keys getting lost.

I’ve had my 24 Ranger since May. I have the Lariat and tow my 26 foot travel trailer weighing 5000#. Tows up the mountains like it’s nothing. I get 12 mpg. It’s light grey and I get many likes on the color. Very comfortable for hours in the saddle. I also have the pro trailer back up system that works like magic.

Thanks for posting, and sharing the state park. Montan’a Del Oro is on the list now! We just purchased a 24 ranger with XLT 2.7 4X4, advanced tow package and FX4 The 2.3 was nice and agree that on our test drives had lots of power snd torque. I felt that, as you mentioned, loaded up with gear, family and trailer, going up mountains (Rockies and sierras) it might struggle just a bit. 2.7 is awesome so far, less than 500 miles on it so won’t be towing for a while. It’s a great package, and like you said, pricing is within $5000-$10,000 of a F-150; but hey, I got the base engine for the F-150 in a more drivable park able package. Anyway, we really like the basic exterior lines and the truck in general. Thanks again for a great video, peace and positivity from SF

I've had my 2.7 v6 2024 ranger for a month. I've towed my 3300lb camper with ease. I prefer having a bit more power so I'm not left wishing for more power under certain circumstances. I've had F150's for 10 years prior. I don't need a big truck anymore. It held all my camping gear in the bed, along with 4 bags of firewood, and still had space to spare, although I'm fairly organized person. Happy with the new Ranger.

Thanks foe the feedback? What axle ratio does the 2.7 come with? I am hoping they offer a 6 foot bed in 25.
@freedomisntfree_443 ай бұрын
You could post a video of it and it’d get a ton of views 🤙 no one hardly has posted anything on the 2.7. I bet it’s a strong little truck for sure.

I’m considering the Ranger….I’m very happy it has Amber Turn Lamps on the tail lights ……it’s .the ONLY Midsize truck to have them …their important…they save lives for their improved visibility and being dedicated

Basically the nose of the truck and the dash had upgrades. The shaping of the cab on the back corners seem to narrow in a little to much for the shape of the truck along with the front grill.
@thebluexb4 ай бұрын
Looks like a big upgrade from the previous Ranger! You can also get a super rad magenta graphics pack from Ford to spice up its appearance
@fluffywarhampster3 ай бұрын
they really need to give the ranger the powerboost treatment already with that 2.7. with it being a lighter truck plus the hybrid fuel economy and power would be improved drastically.

Yeah I was about to ask the same thing! I actually like the new shifter, but yeah I’ve never seen a Lariat with the basic shifter.. weird.
@HelloRoad3 ай бұрын
Ok, heard back from Ford. The low profile e-shifter only comes with the Ranger Raptor or the 4x4 Lariat. Basically the trucks that are optioned with Active Park Assist 2.0 get it. I'm driving a 4x2 in this video. The 4x2 Lariat doesn't have Active Park Assist so it gets the basic shifter.

@@HelloRoad Great follow-up. Overall, excellent work on the review. I've seen many, and I believe this one is more "user-friendly," so to speak. You didn't just rattle off specs; you discussed how they influenced or didn't influence the experience. Pesonally, I just don't care for the vertical screen. Most of it is wasted on the bottom with fixed controls. And the vertical layout just makes camera views too narrow because they only occupy the top. Toyota and GM do it much better with GM being my favorite.

Why does he say this truck “Could be” a great option for towing …. It either is or it isn’t !
@HelloRoad3 ай бұрын
It was a very good towing experience for me. But it's completely dependent on the use case. How much is being towed, how frequently, do you want to tow with a 4-cylinder, does it provide enough space, etc.
