The "Ike" is the signature project of TFLT. I find it oddly satisfying to watch your tests on this iconic road. For this one, I wonder why you didn't match the trailer weight from your prior mid-sized truck tests? That seems to be a key variable and will now leave everyone debating the conclusion about the Ford being the best towing mid-sized.
@shitloveaduckАй бұрын
They don’t have that Dakota anymore and the trailer has changed as well. They do two types of Ike Gauntlet. To day was just the Ike Gauntlet towing a weight of 5000 lbs. then there’s a Super Ike. Both are representative, but for a mid size truck, you generally don’t tow more than 5,000 lbs. this last batch though, with the exception of the Nissan Frontier and the Jeep Gladiator have reached a new plateau. They generally CAN tow up to their maximums, even the 2.3 litre Ranger. The naturally aspirated Frontier 3.8 struggled a bit and the 3.6 Gladiator was sucking wind bad at the top! The 2.7 EcoBoost has always punched way above its weight class in the trucks, including the F150s. Still outperforms the 5.0 at anything above sea level, then the 5.0 looses off the line, but catches up.
@percivalgooglyeyes6178Ай бұрын

@ - they have always varied it. The 2.3 can do the Super Ike with no issues. The 2.7 will be about the same as you saw today with fuel economy dropping to 5.5 mpg or so. I like a larger motor not working as hard, just seems like it will help it last where a small engine working hard tends to fail more!
@Cloud30000Ай бұрын
I guess “working hard” is a matter of opinion. Sure, the turbo engines are pushing boost, but they are designed for that. Contrast that to the big engine pushing very high revs for the same power, which I would also consider working hard, but they are also designed for that. Which one will last longer is yet to be determined, regardless of what the KZbin commenters claim. The 2nd gen 2.7 (2018) are still going strong with high miles when well maintained, but they are not old enough to compare to the Coyote. For that matter, the newest gen Coyote with cylinder deactivation also isn’t old enough to tell longevity. We will have to wait another 10 years to definitively declare the more durable engine in this specific application, though the lack of turbo gassers in the HD segment tells me manufacturers are currently hedging their bets on the large N\A engines.

@Jay-me7gw actually, if I was really towing I would just get an F-150 with a coyote. But I'm positive I was running like 12 flat. I'd say there's plenty of power with the two three, but if you do need more it might be time to think about just sizing up to a full size cuz what's the real difference between the F-150 and the ranger Otherwise I mean is the price that much different for getting more payload more towing? 10:46 I'm a fan of no plastic covers under the hood. If you don't want to see it, close the hood. Those covers don't keep dust and dirt of the engine and they hide oil leaks that could cause an engine bay fire if they were hidden from casual checks under the hood ...like checking oil and engine coolant levels plus filing the washer fluid. Great opportunities to look for problems. For those of us who own a vehicle vs leasing. I will probably lease my next vehicle tho cuz these modern vehicles are very complicated.

Mine is always covered in dust and dirt, so it absolutely keeps at least some of it off the engine. Mine is also very easy to remove by grabbing and pulling, so I can check oil leaks at a glance or just leave it off entirely if I don’t mind that dust and dirt covering the engine instead.
