Wow you guys rocked this!!! I especially liked their way of conveying emotions when acting. For instance, they didn’t make it seem like Shakespeare wrote some boring old plays; they turned the dialogues into jokes, laughing when mad (Helena). These things, i truly enjoyed! Well done Rice University! Credits to Titania and the director for making it happen in a splendid way!

People keep saying the acting was trash. I for one did notice some bumps along the way AND as I was reading along in my book while watching this I did realize there were quite a few lines missing but overall this was entertaining and lively! Those who say the acting was garbage need to zip it. You probably couldn't do better than these high schoolers and I for one am amazed and I believe that some of them have a chance at a career in live theatre. Special shout out to Puck and Bottom. I enjoyed the laughs from my family and I. Brilliantly done.

@StevenSlaughter-ws6weАй бұрын
It looks like they cut some of the lines, a common practice with Shakespeare. The entire script takes about two hours and this was 1:35. This explains why a bunch of lines were skipped. It was intentional.

I enjoyed Titania, Puck, and The Fairy that serves the queen. Their acting was spot on in my opinion. The others came a bit too strong or seemed they didn't know how to be the character.However, I really love how the production was set up - the costumes, the lights, the make up, and the campus. What a beautiful campus to have this play produced!!! And I give props to those who did the costumes and make up. Puck looks like a real hobglobin. out of all the plays that i've read by shakespeare (hamlet, romeo & julliet, othello, and macbeth), this play is my favorite and othello comes in second. all the plays except for a midsummer night's dream were read for school. i had a great time reading the play and laughed out loud in some parts, but seeing it performed (watching it online more like) is icing on a cake. after all, shakespeare's plays are obviously meant to be seen, not just read. this performance was excellent, they did a great job bringing all the jokes, the characters, and everything in between to life. i loved it!! :)

This superb performance (in which Puck was the best actor and I most enjoyed the fighting scenes) helped me a great deal in explaining the drama to my online student in India. I liked the costumes a lot...it helped me learn about the costumes of Ancient Greece. I admire the way they did so much with only very simple props and setting. This performance also meant a great deal to me personally, as my grandmother was a great Shakespearean who taught 17 Shakespeare dramas at the Westminster School in Atlanta and made a huge tapestry (wall hanging) in memorial of her husband (also a teacher there) with scenes from all the plays she had taught. So she spent much time explaining Shakespeare to me as I was growing up! Also, I will never forget that, when I was only 7 years old, I took part in a dance recital of this drama in which I was initially assigned to be the Butterfly...but then changed, on my request, to being a Fairy (with a pink tutu) with the other members of my group!

Here I sit & preview this production to share with my 9 and 5 1/2 year old home school kids. It has some good acting and fun presentation. Well done. A midsummer Night's Dream, has been my favorite Shakespeare play since discovering it in middle school- a long time ago. Now, I will share the love. Any recommendations for a good transcript or version to teach elementary students? I figure I will start by reading it to them first, then have them watch this production! Then, have them pick out one small scene they are most drawn to memorize & perform at home. Good luck to all you students and home- schoolers out there! The Bard of Avalon wrote in a timeless language which will resonate forever. I wish he would reincarnate. The world needs more Shakespeare in it.

I am watching this at midsummer (albeit not the exact day). I'm particularly taken by the buses that go past in the background every now and again. A clear reference to the "transports" that the lovers are experiencing, which-- paradoxically-- are a routine and fairly predictable part of the human condition. I wonder how they arranged such an ingenious visual pun?
