Well timing is important here! If you were to rewatch the first episodes its actually like this. Zoro was verry dense and closed besides extreme shock situations and seeing how the Crew reacted to Jonny and Yosakus behavior, zoros previous close friends. If i remember correctly Zoro actually first named an attack at the verry end of Axehand Morgans story, being the famous Onigiri, named after the rice balls the small girl tried to feed him in the marine base. And after that was another gap during Buggy until he named the Tiger Trap move against the Black Cat pirates, seeing and learning how much confidence and power this attack naming gives Luffy and especially Usopp.

I think a reason they change some things in the dialogue and maybe how the characters talk, is because they wouldn't be able to make physical humor the same way they do in the manga and the anime, so I think it's going to be more banter humor and humor in dialogue and manourisms.

Right, if I were to take the interaction from the live-action and try to translate it to manga, it would be something like them arguing, Luffy says "My crew is so fun." While laughing and clapping his feet. Then the pair of them jump into frame and say "Not a crew!" while facing the camera. I can definitely see why they would adjust the humor in the way they did to make it more digestible for mainstream audiences. (Plus Speed Racer is the only live action movie I think has pulled off that kind of goofiness and while great it bombed.)

That’s crazy awesome. This live action adaptation would be an opportunity for people who don’t watch one piece whether it comes from the anime or manga; to see this show bring in more people to watch it and show the audience what one piece is. People who don’t watch one piece for either the artstyle or pacing could see it from a new perspective let’s just hope it’s good enough to be able to capture those emotional moments and characters.

It's a really good sign that the dad is interested. That's really the whole purpose of the live action version. Bring One Piece to people who normally wouldn't watch a slow paced, cartoony, and extremely long anime or read a manga. While elements of One Piece are extremely cartoony and that makes it hard to adapt, the story is universal and could potentially work in any medium with the right creative team behind it. I really hope this is a version I can show to my parents.

Did you try the manga? It's paced very well for the most part. The anime is a lot slower for sure. Still the best though. This is a heavily watered down One Piece for non-fans.

If there is a comment you want from a fan about One Piece to convince you to read/watch it: "We all joined an overly ambitious and silly adventure of a teenager, with all of its goofiness, wacky magical powers and all. But we all stayed for the maturity and growth the series presents in all of its aspects, themes, characters along with their developments, world building and still the mystery behind the core story that is still yet to be unfold completely at his full extent throughout almost 25 years so far is what makes it awesome." This series's author has put basically one third if his entire life effort into it. Give him a chance. We literally grow with the One Piece story and its entirety. Characters having a change of heart, dark themes and topics that even media do not dare to approach explored, philosophy and questioning intriguing. But most importantly this is a world that is heavily inspired by our real life world, (real life historical figures, celebrities, from comedians and actors to dictators and mafia bosses) besides the wacky supernatural powers and all , its basically a mixture of the humankind's history, cultures and ideas. If anything your son sir has not yet mentioned, is that this series started goofy but had a major switch after a certain point "halfway" through after some tragic chain of events that pushed the main character and his crew to grow/glow up to face their/our harsh world. They are not playing pirates...they ARE pirates. The cartoonish and light hearted aspect is not so strong now that we approach slowly the ending line, its just a side theme to keep the children demographic in. In short: This series is a cartoon that was aiming to have some fun and chill time but then commited and proceeded to stretch into a more serious tone in its story. Captivating almost every age of audience besides the children mostly.

One Piece came into my teens shortly after Trigun, Dragon Ball, Yu Yu Hakusho, and many others, been a weekly watcher for over 20 years now. I'm not big into reading comics or manga, but I enjoy animated and live action shows. He-man, Hong Kong Fuey, Scooby Doo, Yogi bear, Flintstones, watched a lot of classics even loony toons, but they are all encapsulated to one episode stories. I love anime solely for the fact that they are generally story driven from start to finish and are not one shot themed episodes.

I don’t really get why so many people have a problem with Luffy saying “I sense some tension amongst the crew”. Everyone thinks that it is totally out of character because Luffy normally doesn’t care about those kind of things. I’ll argue that it’s correct… after East Blue, when his leadership is totally established. Before that, he struggles to be taken seriously (at least in the manga, I don’t know how well it was conveyed in the anime adaptation). He acts all bossy but nobody follows his (mostly stupid and/or dangerous) orders. In the early chapters, Luffy is the only one that sees himself as the undisputed captain of a loyal pirate crew. At this point of the story, Luffy only has made Zoro agree to come with him because he is now an outlaw and have no other option to achieve his personal goals. As for Nami, she joins with them only to use them to steal more treasures and hate pirates too much to become one herself. To top it of, Zoro doesn’t trust Nami at all (and for good reasons) while she knows Zoro can’t be fooled as easily as Luffy. In this context and point in time, Luffy naïvely thinks he is the captain of this jolly crew and is oblivious to the fact that no one else is thinking as such yet. Don’t forget also that later on, when Usop joins the team, he also claims that he is the captain and they bicker constantly about it between themselves while the others don’t really care about that. So I feel this dialogue, while not verbatim, is on the contrary spot on to sum up the personalities of the trio at the very beginning of their journey and catches perfectly how Luffy is totally delusional about being the figure of authority on the ship.

I actually liked it when he said "Gumu gum.. Pistol..." for Gum Gum pistol, as the anime English dub was the worst. But here somehow, his voice, the way he toned it doen, yet kept it loud and added that subtle Japanese original sounding of it, emulating the original "Gomu gomu no.... Pistoru" And we should all remember that HE IS NOT MR. FANTASTIC WHO STRETCHES. LUFFY IS A "RUBBER MAN" , HIS BODY IS RUBBER, SO EVEN EHEN HE STRETCHES IF IT LOOKS RUBBERY, THATS CANONICALLY ACCURATE! It just has to look good in live action lighting and match with the scene lighting etc.... However it need not look hyper-photorealistic. As we all know how hyperrealism makes things lifeless in the Disney Lion King live action.

I subscribed and am here for the one piece stuff. I get it's not what the channel is about. I'll check out some similar stuff. But between your dad being well spoken and taking it seriously makes me want to see you explaining more, going more in depth on characters or arcs. Having someone so passionate about it have a blind discussion about the morality and choices of the series. Hearing you guys discuss Dressrosa or Sanji's past. A lot of people are asking why there's a live action or saying it's unnecessary; your dad is the exact answer as to why. He never heard of it before your previous video, and seemed genuinely excited to watch the live action though he said he'd probably never read or watch the original. Oda mentioned in his personal letter to the fans that he felt like, with his life expectancy, this is his last chance to bring One Piece to a wider audience. (Not that he's dying, but he's been doing this for 20 years and doing weekly publishing, that takes a hit on you. he deserves his rest.) All a creator and writer wants is for people to enjoy their story. Your dad is the reason why there's a live action. It's not there for us estsblished fans to shit on it; it's there for more people to love the characters we've come to love, too, when they otherwise wouldn't have given it a chance.

Really hoping this show is at least decent. I've read One Piece for 20 years now, but have never been able to get any friends or family to try it. Whether it was the cartoony look, the length, or just not liking the medium, there was always an excuse. A live action version would solve all those problems, so I'll finally be able to introduce everyone I know to One Piece.
