Hey everyone! For an update and some added context: this was filmed shortly after the series dropped. With the actor's strike being over, I can discuss projects like this again. Behind the scenes dad has read up to Orange Town in the manga, but as he said in the video, reading online hurts his eyes so he may have to start getting physical copies of the manga. He's watched a decent bit of the anime over mom's shoulder(she started after finishing the live action). At the moment he's still budgeting time and deciding which format he wants to consume the story in. Thank you all for your patience and support! We're excited to get back to making videos. -Noah

Sanji is my favourite character from the manga and I will admit I had doubts whe they casted this Eminem looking dude as Sanji, especially without the curly eyebrows. But man! It's not that Luffy doesn't know what "pirate" means, it's that it doesn't mean quite the same thing in that world as it does here. To explain much further would be spoilery, but the short version is "seafaring anarchist". And just like in real world politics, some of these 'anarchists' are taking a principled stand against illegitimate authority, some want to personally enjoy the most freedom possible (and may or may not care about the consequences to others - Luffy would be in the 'does care' subset of this group), and some just want to watch the world burn.

Great video guys, yall are just dripping with enthusiasm for the show, it's adorable :D I agree hands down the fights were great, it was a risky move going close to the original fights but simplifying them a bunch, it worked but the show really depended on the fights working. I love how in the original the fights are more like puzzles early on in the story, they lost a bit of that in the adaptation, but it absolutely works.

On the topic of stunt actors: My understanding is they love it when the main actor gets really involved with learning the stuns and choreography, because stunt-men and women are there in the industry to create awesome fight scenes, not to necessarily stand out themselves, a perfect stunt double is completely invisible in the final shot, but they make the main actor look like an absolute god.

Cant wait for him to read. The live action did great bringing some scenes to life, but the manga does a great job fleshing out characters and the comedic timing of jokes in panels is amazing. The Sanji LA episodes are some of my favorite, but they had to skip over just how much Luffy was impressed by Sanji's kindness and just how impressed Sanji was by Luffy's determination in the original, it makes the crew dynamic feel deeper between all the straw hats when the depth behind their reason to join is explored a little more

Watch the anime in Japanese whenever you can (I think you mentioned this as a preference for foreign material anyway) Though a nice touch in the English translations is how Luffy always yells he's "going to be King of the Pirates" while everyone of consequence in the world (admirals, kings, etc) refer to the title as "Pirate King" while in the Japanese, both are "Kaizoku-Ou" (but I'm not sure if it's written differently or with different kanji when Luffy says it vs the others) I also like to think that Rossio and Elliot borrowed the title, Pirate King, from One Piece when they were writing the PotC sequels, but that's probably just wishful thinking by a fan

It always bugs me that there are people who go "oh no, not the dub!" The Funimation dub is not bad! Yes, it starts a bit rough with a couple of the characters, but the VAs are all veteran VAs! Also, the only reason Luffy has a female VA is that Toei demanded it, and at least they grabbed Colleen Clinkenbeard, who, again, is a anime veteran, having been the voice of Young Gohan and Goten for years.

Tell me at 38:23 that your dad is not watching Cowboy Bebop Live Action and enjoying it? Tell me that it's the anime. Please. Anyway signage and shop having two languages is actually very common in multi racial society and popular tourists location like Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand. Given that most society are singular lingo, pirates are actually most common in the above said region in the 16 centuries spices war. Lastly just wanna say, One Piece is best enjoyed by the manga followed by the anime. Live action is really in a league of its own. I'm certain that it has created more one piece fans and some may only ever watch that version. I pray that the live action will be more awesome next season. They took the first 95 chapters plus chp 431 to 433 and turn it into a 7.5 hours series. I don't agree completely with some of the changes (No Arlong shock with Zoro Awesome Scar, Momoo or Hachi) but it was still really good. One part that I really dislike was for Arlong to come look for Luffy himself. As a boss, you should send your henchman first, who gave Luffy serious trouble because of the sea and then that original scene of Sanji being deeply impressed by Luffy secret power could have been in. Arlong should have lesser scenes and the camera tricks to make him look even larger. Not impressive enough. I think that's why Oda created characters who are 3m to 6m tall in the series, to showcase power without showing you power. Well. I sincerely hope that the new found success and support will make them do Loguetown, Smoker, Whiskey Peak, Little Garden, Drum Kingdom and finally Alabasta in more faithful adaptation. And please have kung-fu Dugong. Please. Thanks for the awesome video review! Cheers!

You might be as new to our channel as I am to making videos. I had to ask Noah what a "reaction" video is. All of our videos are discussions. But thanks for checking us out! - Dad

I loved the video per usual. Just one thing confused me. Why does your dad have such disdain towards Jamie Lee? Curtis? I'm not invested either way. I don't care. She could be the worst person in the world. It just came out of left field and surprised me that someone would be so vehement against her, if you could clarify it all much appreciated

@theejackai he doesn't dislike Jamie Lee Curtis. He doesn't enjoy recognizing actors, it draws him out of the performance. Kinda like a fourth wall break. He likes seeing fresh faces and being sucked into their performances.
