Great Big Story

Great Big Story

To call Lukas Novotny an expert horseback rider paints an incomplete picture. Novotny is one of the world's leading horseback archers. Yeah, you read that right: he shoots arrows on horseback. Now, Novotny is almost single-handedly keeping the tradition alive.

That would be to easy, certain bows have certain powers, they would Need to Limit certain bowtypes, I shoot a riding bow myselfe, A real archer cannot stand 30 minutes with a drawn bow like thoose silly olympic archers, They would never be able to hit a target. So sad what has become of this Sport.

Imagine doing this without a set path for your horse to canter along, at a gallop, in the fray of battle. I cannot imagine the skill required.

but for them horse back riding was almost easier then walking. The nomads that pass through the area I used to live used to put there infants on horses as the horses grazed so the rocking movement would calm the child and put them to sleep

The rider used his legs to steer the horse. It was just natural for them.
@unrulycrow6299
@unrulycrow6299 6 жыл бұрын
Jel Well Tbh a skilled horserider only needs their legs to steer the horse, so... I'd be more worried about the general chaos of the battlefield, even though I suppose mounted archers were used to flank and go full lightning attack on the enemies (... But I need to study medieval military strategies so it's only a supposition, and a rather uninformed one at that).
@OfficialMINIm
@OfficialMINIm 6 жыл бұрын
Jel its an expensive skill to acquire. Takes years of consistent practice to master & the resource required was too expensive. It made sense for people like the mongols because it was a skill they already possessed for hunting in the open fields of Mongolia/Manchuria. Basically almost all men knew how to ride and fight on horses.
@Silirion
@Silirion 6 жыл бұрын
To ride coordinately in a large group and fire arrows should be quite tough for a newbie ya. Nomad mounted archers were, if memory serves and the historical description of them if accurate, in to a type of blitz attack warfare. Attack and feign retreat or flank and pester the enemy at a distance. The archers maybe didn't go in to full attack with lances? Who knows. I think the mongols had light skirmishers and heavier type of cavalry to. Most likely they were flexible though =)
