One of the most important aspects of monkhood is the community or the sangha. While it is important that we train ourselves individually each day, we also need to come together to work as a team. This activity that helps us bond with our fellow brother monks is an activity we call "rabboon." Rabbon is essentially the Thai Buddhist equivalent of daily chores. Doing daily chores provides Buddhist monks with the opportunity to exercise, work as a team, build a sense of community and so much more. Rabboon is very critical to the life of a monk. #lifeofamonk #monks #buddhism

By watching video I realised strength of community. Even though all monks from different countries but they share something in common which lead them to creat 1 community. This brings me the feeling of togetherness which will not found in many countries of this world. I routinely pour water in my small garden and also spend some time while talking with those plants it bring very calmness and peace in mind. I lay brick of ice in each pot so that plants will never feel thrusty whole day till evening... I take little from then and give little to them in my whole day.....🙏🙂

Would be good to volunteer some of this time and energy to assist the lay people in the communities outside the monastery as well. The monastic life is so insular. I understand it is all geared to cultivating inner peace, but I am just getting a sense that it is so separate from the external world that it really doesn't contribute much to meeting people's needs on the physical level, beyond giving blessings, etc. What are your thoughts on this? Thank you..... May Buddha continue to bless, protect and guide you.... In gassho . . .

Nick, I saw a previous video of you saying that rabboon is a time to practice for monks. What things should you be thinking (or maybe not thinking) while doing these chores? This past year doing chores around the house have become toxic because I feel so much guilt at the messes I've made, and get very overwhelmed a the amount of tasks I need to do.

can you tell me, what is the monastic general attitude towards cleaning up after oneself? should each person clean up after themselves, ie when doing something of a personal nature like using a sink or a table for your own needs specifically? or do you just make a mess knowing the group will clean it up later? and do the head teachers clean up after themselves, or is it considered an honor to do that for them? asking for a messy friend😏

Hi nick. I saw one more excellent video and your videos are always helpful for me. But today I have a few questions. You said that by giving our time and energy we receive merit or pure positive energy which enrich our spiritual practice. My question is does this positive energy help us to overcome our bad habits or addictions? Is addiction to something or greed same thing? Because I always struggle with my many addictions. Will be glad to know your answer. Again love and best wishes from India🙏🙏🙏🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳😌😌

They certainly shouldn't have money to purchase. Unfortunately, there is corruption, and temples in Thailand which disregard this rule and practice a form of hedonistic Buddhism and are under investigation by the government. They are able to photograph and market their form of Buddhism as a marketable item to be bought and invested in. It is disgusting.

@@ranuraje913 the monk there is knowledgeable, friendly. The environment is full of green and fresh air. The food is simple but extremely yummy. And is totally free. Base on donation. I can't wake to revisit again. Wish we can see each other there. 🙏🙏🙏

A Monk's daily chores are no different from the daily chores of anyone else... We all have to work in some form of compacity or another. Either one works or one starve... Even if one is idle. Idleness cannot remain permanent. Eventually one will have to engage in some manner of work to eat, to live.

But, do you help others in the community? Like elders, poor people? Do you give them food if they need so? Or, its all about, you getting from them whatever they give you? Maybe they NEED YOUR HELP

May I ask, to you, what does it mean to be a Monk?
@nickkeomahavong01
@nickkeomahavong01 4 жыл бұрын
It means we train our minds and cultivate wisdom. With that, we are able to see reality as it is. We see ourselves, others and situations clearly. As a result of this, we decrease suffering 😊

@@nickkeomahavong01 I don't mean the purpose of being a Monk. I meant to ask, you personally, through your eyes and existent, What is a Monk to you and why Theravada buddhism.

@@ExtraordinaryTK again. Same answer. I left my life in California to come here to train my mind. To see reality as it actually is. I was in the helping profession and always been curious about truth. I chose the life of a theravada monk because it gives me the environment to fully practice myself. The Dhamma, meditation and practice helps to purify me and develop wisdom. In the knowing of truth and wisdom in myself, I can in turn help others. Plus I get to make merits and share it to my family. I hope that helps 😊

Hello. If you like, there are many resources online. You can download a book called what the buddha taught. You can Google it and get a free pdf. You can also visit an organization called Peace revolution. They also have many resources and guided meditations. I hope that helps 😀
