NOTE FROM TED: This talk only represents the speaker's personal spiritual views and understanding of consciousness and sustainability. TEDx events are independently organized by volunteers. The guidelines we give TEDx organizers are described in more detail here: storage.ted.com...
Spiritual teacher and thought leader, Sivarama Swami reflects on the state of the planet and shares his thoughts on the urgent need for humans to take the fight against climate change seriously. Founder of one of Europe’s largest eco-villages, he urges the climate conversation to shift away from government treaties and policies and move towards the individual responsibility of adopting a conscious lifestyle to reverse the destructive effects of consumerism on our world. The first step to making a change is believing you can. Sivarama Swami encourages us to flick a mental switch and reflect on how to make our own lives more sustainable in order to fight the climate crisis in a more significant and permanent way, to truly heal the planet. Sivarama Swami is an internationally acknowledged spiritual leader, theologian, author of 23 books and dozens of articles, and an environmental and human rights activist. His scholarship and writings, his extensive public activities, his continued efforts to stand up for human rights, and his regular involvement in interfaith dialogues have made Sivarama Swami one of the most prominent religious leaders in Europe. Based in Hungary, Sivarama Swami oversees the development of Krishna Valley, one of Europe’s largest organic, self sufficient, and environment-friendly farms; and is involved in extensive charity work, providing thousands of underprivileged families and children with hot meals and other necessities on a daily basis. Krishna Valley is part of the Global Eco-villages network and is affiliated with Hungarian universities teaching environmental, social, and economic sustainability. In 2009, for his outstanding charitable and humanitarian work, Sivarama Swami was awarded the Gold Cross of Merit of the Hungarian Republic, the second most prestigious award in the Republic of Hungary. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

Everything on earth gets its life energy from God, all the novelty, innovations are part of Gods Energy coming to us in different forms of nature. All the destruction and regeneration is preplanned , some are already happening in the parllel universe. Live you life and dedicate it to God, go back to Godhead.

As a meditator but not quite a Buddhist, I do not see how anyone can come back as anything living is there is no more life. We are getting close to the 6th mass extinction. The damage is accelerating.

What extinction event? Why are so many spiritual people pessimistic about the climate? Are they not people with faith in the universe or a higher power overseeing life?

A person can be spiritual without following such a political message.
