Thank you so much for your work on lipedema! I was recently diagnosed by a vein doctor. I bought a vibration plate and love it. It makes my legs feel good while on it.

But primary care doctors don't really know about this. And if even if they do, they won't even look and my legs and tons of lipomas and water retention.

I am trying to understand this condition so that I am informed, and can help a friend with advanced lipodema. It has got to the point where her mobility is severely compromised, and the fat build up on her hips is such that she is having to have the doorways in her home widened. In the UK there is so little help available. Any assistance that you could provide would be very gratefully received. I know that she is in great pain, but the attitude to pain control is so restricted. Her quality of life is very much reduced, and the future doesn’t bear thinking about.

Do many of you NOT drink much water thinking that it reduces swelling?? Could this cause cells to 'hang onto' fluid retention?? Could reducing inflammatory foods help with inflammation around fat cells?? Can essential oil therapeutic massage help unblock lymph cells??

It does not have anything at all to do with not drinking enough water. Lipidema is far more complicated than that. The connective tissue or fascia of the vascular system in someone with lipidema is extremely weak. There is no normal pumping mechanism of the vascular system. The lipid or fat cells are literally trapped by stagnant fluid which the body cannot pump out. Also, this disease is driven by hormones and inflammation, which could be connected to an autoimmune response. It seems to be a vascular, hormonal, and autoimmune disease all at the same time.

Question, I am 57 and recently had a hysterectomy and ovaries removed. I had precancerous cells but no cancer. I am having a lot of menopause symptoms like hot flashes, brain fog, and vaginal dryness/atrophy. I am meeting with my gynecologist next week and have a new lipedema diagnosis from my vein doctor plus a new diagnosis of chronic venous insufficiency. If lipedema is connected to female hormones, would hrt make it better or worse? I heard from a urologist on KZbin, Dr. Kelly Casperson that small doses of testosterone gel can help eliminate some menopause symptoms. I am wondering if combining that with a low dose estrodail patch, would be helpful or skip the estrodail patch and just try the low dose of testosterone gel. If men don't usually get lipedema unless they have low testosterone, could adding some testosterone help us? (I no longer have a uterus, so I won't need any progesterone.) Thoughts???

So if a woman lowered oestrogens, and slightly upped their testosterone - would this help reduce?

Hi @jaqmaiakovskaya2303 ! Can you explain more? I am menopausal and am going to ask my gyno about maybe prescribing low dose of testosterone to help my menopause symptoms and not make my lipedema worse....

I keep hoping I’ll find a rundown on what will help. This came the closest. But it’s so fast. Mentioned some supplements. Idk. Bout to just give up again.

Do you mean that the fluid is inside the fatcells, or around, or both?

Thank you for posting this video Dr. Herbst. I have developed both lymphedema and lipedema after cancer surgery and you are a Godsend. I live in SE Arizona and am hoping to see you in person when I'm well enough to travel.
