The 1984 concert in Tokyo was part of their first world tour to play the songs from their EP previously recorded in 1983 which included: Queen of the Reich Blinded The Lady Wore Black Prophecy Nightrider During this concert they debut their first new Album not yet released “The Warning” Which included songs such as this one “enforce” and all the rest of the songs performed during the concert including “take hold of the flame”.

Man, you really don't. I'm nostalgia-ing so hard right now. I don't even have sufficient words for when I saw them on their Building Empires tour in '91. Wow. Just. Wow.

@@mermaid_at_heart213 Yeah, the Building Empires tour was way beyond spectacular! I've seen them, and was fortunate enough to meet them many times. They were always great with us fans! And their concerts were, far and away, the best I've EVER seen! Pure perfection from beginning to end!

Agree, they were the best live performance by far that I had seen in the 80's and they still hold that title a few decades later. It was hard to appreciate what I was witnessing as they were just my third favorite band in my teens (ACDC, then Accept, then Queensryche) when I saw them tour with metallica in Odessa TX in the 80's. Metallica was hard hitting back then but I left feelin bad for them because Queensryche outperformed them hands down, it was a joy to behold. Been a fan of Queensryche ever since but only listen to EP, Warning, Rage, and Operation Mindcrime ... could not get into their later stuff.

I love that you love Queensryche so much, so you get a sub from me. I have been a fan since the late 80's and finally got to see them in '91 on their Building Empires tour. Getting to see Operation: Mindcrime live in its entirety was such a gift. I have rarely gotten to go to shows in my life, but of all the shows that I have gotten to experience, this was the best. None other has even come close. They were as phenomenal and magical live as they were on their albums. It wasn't just a normal concert, either. The story was played out on stage, as well as through video projecting behind the band. Man, what a memory. Sigh. It's such a shame what happened to them. I'm going to see Geoff Tate's band this fall. They are doing a best of Mindcrime & The Warning tour. This year marks the 35th anniversary of Operation: Mindcrime's release. God, I feel old. lol

I agree, Cullen, that picking a favorite QR song is nigh to impossible. Yes, nigh. Their songs have different elements that make them great in different ways. When suggesting songs to people who haven't heard them before, I have to recommend at least 5 songs so they can begin to taste the Queensryche flavor. For you two, how about another live song from 1992: "The Killing Words" from MTV Unplugged. Very small, intimate setting. Cassandra, I think you might like the controlled intensity after the guitar solo. Even if you don't do a reaction, check it out anyway. But a reaction would be nice!

Fun Fact: Geoff Tate was originally a drummer before someone heard him sing and told him that he should be a lead singer. He plays saxophone and piano (that was a quick flash of him on the piano in this video) but he says that he doesn't play them well 😄. Also, in an interview Geoff said that the original members of Queensryche have been offered a lot of money to get back together for a reunion tour but not everyone was onboard. I keep holding out on hope that one day they will, but it's not likely to ever happen. There has been too much turmoil between several of the members to put aside their differences. It's unfortunate because I've seen hundreds fo bands in concert and they still rank in my top 5 best live bands. I can't explain how clean they sounded live...it was like listening to the album but better!

So I wore out my cassette of The Warning in the 1980's. I had the Queensryche's first EP on vinyl, I also saw this concert from 6th row in 1984 when they opened for Kiss in Portland Oregon. At that time I already knew all the words to all their songs that they had released to that point. Maybe I knew because they were from Washington? Maybe it was because I wasn't that mainstream in my music? At that point in time radio stations refused to play metal, so we all had to be underground to hear it! But the metal revolution was underway and I lived and breathed it back then! Still know all the words!❤😊

Queensryche has been my favorite band since the 80's, so much to luv, and you guys haven't even had a taste of Rage for Order yet lol. The EP, The Warning, Rage for Order, Operation Mindcrime were epic and every album was so different. after there were a few bright spots but this 4 album run has entertained me for decades. Oh, that's Geoff on the keyboards, note the white jacket/vest. And Queensryche was a unique metal band in the 80's when the glam and hard rock scene was big, they fit inbetween the glam/rock and the Metallica/Megadeth speed metal so timing was not on their side perhaps. Also in that era was Malmsteen and then came the copycats. After the glam/rock scene there was grunge which was also not the lane for Queensryche. Who really knows, but the true fans of Queensryche were loyal fans that never left.

The genius of youth. The Warning, Rage for Order, and Operation Mindcrime are the closest thing to the novel 1984 in brilliance and humanitarian value that any popular music has ever achieved. Not shallow and topical, not Rage for the Machine, not brilliant but broad like Floyd, just dead on way ahead of it's time.

Yeah, Geoff plays keyboard, but he says, not that well. He also plays sax, in later albums, and whistles in a few of their early songs. Chris actually plays piano in some later albums too. For a stripped down, raw-ish song, with just Chris on piano and Geoff singing try "Someone Else". There's a full band version too, but I think the one with just piano is more emotional and poignant..

Everyone loves and always brings up Silent Lucidity. It's a brilliant, magical song, for sure. Someone Else, however, is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. Every time I hear this song it reaches deep into my soul, whether it's with the full band or just Geoff and Chris doing it acoustically. I hope they listen to it, even if they don't review it on here. It is simply perfection.

These guys kicked so much ass back in their day. I feel very fortunate to have gotten to watch them live a few times before the break up. The band still technically exists but the two most important members (Tate and DeGarmo) are gone so it’s really just a cover band that does Queensryche songs. Not worth seeing.

I would love to see your reaction to "Walk in the Shadows". I believe this version was from their Operation: Livecrime concert (kzbin.info/www/bejne/sJrPnoyrntOEo5I). There are so many great songs that were released by the original lineup! I can't wait to see your reaction to all of them! From "The Warning" to "The Promised Land" albums (appox. 1984-1994) they were at their best. They still had some good songs later on but they were fewer and further between. They just weren't the same after Christ DeGarmo left in 1994/95.

I took Classical Vocal lessons for years from a Very Prominent and Incredible Opera Singer / Vocal Teacher. When I finally EARNED the right to bring in some songs I wanted to learn... He Knew it was going to be Heavy Metal... and with great apprehension, he stayed True to his word and let me bring in three songs to choose from... I brought in DIO, QUEENSRYCHE, and Rainbow... He was taken so far aback.... Completely taken by surprise at the Vocal Ability , Musicianship, etc etc etc... He felt this was right in line with classical technique in a myriad of ways... So he Happily ventured into the world of True Heavy Metal with me... I also later was accepted by another Classical Vocal Teacher in Seattle, turned out he gave lessons to Geoff Tate and everyone in Queensryche....

This is their version of Iron Maiden's Hallowed Be They Name. Today they sound great with Todd Latorre on vocals and have a good thing going. No reason to reunite. Geoff Tate doesn't like metal all that much and that somewhat ruined the band's direction as they never returned to that sound til they got rid of Geoff.

Although Geoff said he ended up doing a festival (?) that his old bandmates happened to be doing too, so he caught their set and met Todd, talked with him a while, complimented his performance, and had some pleasant interactions with Michael, Eddie, and maybe Scott too. I can't remember. However, it made me feel good that Geoff extended an olive branch, so to speak. But I still fear a reunion is probably still very unlikely. 😢
