"Roads to Madness" is the ONE song anyone should play to someone else to introduce them to Queensryche. Its their early period masterpiece. NO ONE was doing anything like this in 1983/1984

Ryche Rules! Geoff has a voice second to no one! This band has it all. No weak part them at all. I met them in a garage in Bellevue when they were called the Mob. I heard Geoff doing voice warm ups and was in awe! My mom sang opera and I heard it in his voice. He was really cool as all the members were. This band is my favorite ever! Triumph was, but now they are number 2. Every song by them is amazing. They just fill every void in my soul. Love the Ryche! RYCHE ON!

I have seen Queensryche live in the 80s . They were for real ,and Geoff was flawless live . He hit EVERY note, much to the chagrin of many of the bands they opened for . This album, and the two following it, are credited with being some of the very first progressive metal albums ( before Dream Theater) My list to react to , based on your reaction to this song..... 1) Neue Regel ( a masterpiece) 2) London 3) Take Hold of the Flame 4) the entire Operation Mindcrime album ( it's a metal opera, and is credited as being one of the best metal albums of all time) From the Empire album, their sound became more mainstream , but there are still many gems , like "Della Brown"

Agreed! Geoff is amazing! The Take Hold Of The Flame video and song live is the way to go for that song. For me anyway. I find it interesting to see people who have no idea who he is. 😆 Little fun fact, he's playing our friends small club in September. I can't wait to meet him in person. My husband has played at the club since it opened. And our family run lights and sound for the club. And Geoff's drummer Daniel lives local. So, they run stuff for his side band. I just so glad concerts are returning.

I saw them live doing their empire tour. They counted down the clock. They did a few songs from other albums. Road to madness was one. Ans some from empire, but they did all of mindcrime. And still counted us down. It was one of the best shows I've ever seen. Also note, many other of the best shows i saw them I saw them do both mindcrime one and two. Amazing.

Nice reaction! I'm glad you appreciated their writing, singing, and overall musical talent. Did you catch the very last line: "Seeing light at the end of sight reminds me, I've passed away!" Their lyrics and subject matter are always worth scrutinizing. Please listen and react to more by them. You will thank us!! Singer, Geoff Tate was classically trained, and as you can tell, has complete control over his gorgeous voice. His high notes are sung, not screamed. And he can sing ANYTHING effortlessly! Try: MTV Unplugged 1992 " The Killing Words" ALL of the concept album "Operation Mindcrime"! It's a continuous story, and HIGHLY regarded both lyrically and musically. What a great band! Every one of them! QR (original lineup) was diverse in their writing, but always intense and spot on, as the British say.

After some Queenryche-classics I would like to see and hear your reaction for the German Metalband Helloween with the alltime-classic "Keeper Of The Seven Keys", if you haven't heard them. Being a college student in the early 70's, my music base was Black Sabbath, Led Z., Deep Purple, etc. In the workforce from the 80's on, I didn't have guys in the dorm bring over the latest album so all I got was radio type music. I don't remember ever hearing Queensryche. Fast forward to today with retirement and youtube, I discovered Queensryche and fell in love with Tate's awesome voice, the perfect musicianship with backup voices and the genius lyrics. I vote for Queen of the Reich, Warning, Silent Lucidity (the video), I am I, and Take Hold of the Flame (live). Operation Mindcrime is full album only; to listen to the songs individually is a "felony".

Geoff Tate was opera trained. Hence, his insane vocal range as well as the conceptual arc of every QR album. Now, you are going to get a TON of requests to react to songs off of "Operation: Mindcrime," Queensryche's platinum selling rock opera. A bit of advice from a lifelong QR fan: don't listen to random songs off that album for two reasons; 1) You won't appreciate their artistic and musical value as much if you don't follow the storyline, and 2), lyrically, it just won't make sense. There ARE reactors who have listened to the WHOLE album, which I would suggest you do, either here on your channel or on your own time...but either way, I promise you, that album will change your life.

Yes they have long hair but definitely not one of the typical 80's hair metal bands.."The Warning" is a great album, really recommend "No Sanctuary" and the live version recorded in Tokyo in 84' of "Take Hold Of The Flame"..I would listen to the studio version first then you'll see how amazing the live performance is Geoff Tate (pronounced Jeff) is the singer, most of the songs were written by him and lead guitarist Chris DeGarmo..I so recommend watch their live performance from Tokyo in 1984 of the song "Take Hold Of The Flame" you'll see he does not have just a studio voice, he's the real deal !!

QR...one of the Best 80's Metal Bands! Rose high above most others. Certainly not "Hair Metal"! You need to hear the FIRST Queensryche song that INTRODUCED this fascinating band to the world. "Queen of the Ryche" and "Lady Wore Black" from their debut EP!

I am SO sick of hearing the term hair metal. This is my favorite band. At 69 you can imagine how many bands and concerts I have been to and am still going to. Grunge was as ugly as it's members. Country and pop are just beyond my ability to care about and rap and current R&B are just garbage. No one is actually playing or writing real music . Queensryche, although they have had some problems are still mine to love

Comparing him to Axel Rose is an insult to Geoff Tate. Rose can't hit those high notes unless he shreiks. Geoff Tate is a classicly trained singer. FAR better than Axel. And I like Guns n Roses

Rose?! Come on man. Rose can't touch Tate. No one could. He has a cleaner, crisper voice than Dickenson. I like Maiden, but there is no comparison.

Yea, Geoff Tate is a monster singer. He does have a much deeper voice than one would first expect from listening to this type of music with this sound. And really, in my opinion, Tate is the best vocalist of all time.

Queensryche is not a hairband at all, they were a true heavy metal band with a taste of prog-rock one of the greats of yesteryear. From the debut EP in 1980 to Empire 1990 they remained consistent with amazing songs and albums. Axle Rose really, no more like between Bruce and Rob Holford of Judas Priest who is his idiol. I'm sorry but I had to laugh hard with the idea of axel rose as an inspiration to anyone other than his fans which obviously I am not. to each their own it is what we had back then during the hair days and glam days the road to ruin of Rock and heavy metal as we knew it. They were played on specific radio stations that only did hard rock and metal music, I got to see them several times before Geoff Tate left the band.

Chris DeGarmo (guitarist and songwriter) is brilliant and combine him with the incomparable Geoff Tate - these guys should have been MUCH bigger. Their entire catalogue is astonishing - from "The Lady Wore Black", "Take Hold of the Flame", "Neue Regel", "Gonna Get Close To You", AND absolutely EVERYTHING on "Operation: Mindcrime" (and the live concert/rock-opera/presentation "Operation: Livecrime"), "Silent Lucidity", "Empire" to "Dis con nec ted", "I Am I" and "Someone Else?".... Geoff became a grandfather earlier this year - so, not all bad!

They weren't part of the Hair Metal scene which was more pop/sleeze style. Queensryche leaned closer to the Progressive and Power metal sound and really tread their own path. Take Hold of the Flame, Anybody Listening, Silent Lucidity were pretty well known hits of theirs that got decent airplay at the time.

Always loved how the music flows at the end of this song just before the last bit of lyrics. (@12:22) There’s uncertainty, a struggle, and then rejoice in freedom of escape. Geoff let’s out that cry of triumph…But then the final lyrics bring it all home. “I see a light at the end of sight, and it reminds me, I’ve passed away.” Chilling.

11:00 are some whispered words, and NO ONE can figure out what Geoff Tate is saying! Warning was intended to be a concept album based on Orwells 1984, released in 1984! Mix Engineer messed the song order up. Original song lineup (for starters): Nm156, En Force, Deliverance, No Sanctuary Take Hold Of The Flame. You can know the beginning and end of the album. NM156 has the swirling synth to start and "Roads" ends it the same.
