A New Budget Killer? - Berny Railway Full Lume Review

I got one in and was really surprised at how nice of a budget watch this is! Great representation of the iconic Swiss Railways clock. Full lume dial has a nice, strong and even application. Dig it.

I had the older Berny railway version but this looked SOOOOO much better that I picked it up (unexpectedly) in the sale ... so much better than my older version and so much closer to the original. I rarely if ever upgrade a watch design once I have it ... this so far is the only time I've done so.

Snap... I've got the same one mate. In fact my mini review of it features in my AliExpress 11.11 Sale video. This version 2 is a big improvement isn't it? I still can't believe how good the lume is. I was expecting it to fade straight away.

Great review (as usual) of the Version 2 of this AE classic, Jason. I own V1, and since I happened to get a real Mondaine before the Berny (it's their all black quartz "budget version" with a synthetic recycled case, and a great sale I just couldn't resist (like, as usual lol)), I quickly noticed how the hands were too small to my liking on the Berny. Otherwise it was a great watch for the buck, and even the leather strap is really great IMHO (even though I still think these cases would benefit from a mere 20mm lug width). A hilarious detail on V1 is that the seconds hand actually is the only place which secretly inhabited a little spot of lume: On that little round counter segment. LMAO! Of course probably because that part was used on other models as well. Anyhows, here Berny definitely have corrected the issues with the hands (isn't also the indicies a slight thicker..?), and also changed the seconds hand to something more accurate with it's all red colour (I agree it should've been a slight longer). The all lume dial is a fantastic bonus as well, even on that red lume spot on the new seconds hand. But honestly, the most important change for me is the way better designed hands, I would've settled with that since it was such small detail that would've elevated that watch so much. It's quite more exensive now, but still reasonably affordable with these better specs regarding dial, hands, movement (not a fan of Miyota 8 series, but still yet more well proven work horse), lume etc. And of course, sapphire! I'm tempted to get this new one, since it's actually like what the V1 should've been from the beginning IMO. And then maybe give my V1 to some friend or friend's kid. I'll definitely keep the V1 strap though!

I just had mine in the steel mesh bracelet. It's alright. Just sharp edges. The date window is way too small for me. I might modify it and put a cyclops so I can see it better. It looks better on my brown leather band.

I don’t know why everybody don’t like the short second hand. If you are familiar with the Brand Mondaine, you know that it should be a Swiss railway station watch. And they use a second hand that looks like a railway sign 😎 in my opinion it looks like that and like the one at the original watch.

@@JasonTheWatchGuy ok, I understand 😃 the date window is the only negative for me. I like to see it at 6 o'clock (or without it) and it should be framed. I also think, 38mm case and 20mm lugs look better. But otherwise a really nice watch and I've ordered one, because of the lumed dial 😎👌🏼

I do like the watch, a couple of tweaks needed to really take it up another notch....still not a fan of the name but with the introduction of a stylised logo perhaps it's baby steps....all in all they are a very reasonable brand who seem to be continually improving....🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿⌚🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿⌚

Afternoon! Looks okay but as much as the lume dial is cool, the off-white looks a bit... off. Think I'll stick with the v1 unless this drops super cheap. Cheers Jason.

They do make a v2 version without the full dial lum but on the milanese and with the hands and hacking upgrade .. that dial is more stark white.

Thanks for reviewing. The redlollipop seconds hand which makes the Original watch it is homaging should have been the one part they made sure they nailed. Probably the only thing from keeping me from buying it. What a shame

I have to be honest, I bought a black numeral dialed piece last year and still love it. I don't really think the Miyota is a huge improvement over the Sea-gull one in mine, I prefer the date window at the 6 o'clock position and the new hands do nothing for me. The only plus point is the band, but they offer a branded Malenese on their Ali's store, I'll pass on this one.

I’ve just (June 024) bought the Cafisen version of the mondaine instead. Mystery why anyone would buy a watch with that crap miyota movement when you can gave same with seiko nh35 ! 🤔🙄. Ps second hand isn’t meant to reach further - THATS the original Swiss railway clock design ifs copying ffs … seriously does my nut keep hearing this . Ignorance is bliss ah 🙄
