So many classic rom-com references in this. The whole thing with the couple talking to the camera and Ted saying "I'll have what he's having." at the kabob shop and the "you want the rest of your life to start ASAP" lines are from "When Harry Met Sally." When Roy turns Ted down and he replies "As you wish." Is from "The Princess Bride." Roy's "You had me at coach." line is from Jerry McGuire. More subtle is that Rebecca is using the dating app Bantr, and her username is “Bossgirl.” She’s also talking to a mystery man who goes by “LDN152.” This is a reference to "You’ve Got Mail". Meg Ryan’s character had the username “Shopgirl,” and Tom Hanks’ character was known as “NY152.” The "I'm just a coach, standing in front man" speech Ted gives Roy is from Notting Hill. When Roy takes off his mic and says "Jeff, I have to go now," it is a perfect recreation of Meg Ryan's scene in "Sleepless in Seattle." Also, I know the Doc is in the whole season, but I can't think it's a coincidence that the therapist from Sleepless is also named Dr. Fieldstone.

One of the bits I truly treasure is that the actors playing Leslie and Mrs. Higgins (I'm not sure if we've been given her name) are actually married in real life. I can't help but think that maybe she's his rainbow, too.

Instead of "Who, who", the British owl says, "Whom, whom." When Ted says, "When a coach realizes who he wants to coach with for the rest of his career, he wants it to start ASAP", loosely quoting When Harry Met Sally. When he says, "I'm also just a coach...etc.,", he's loosely quoting Notting Hill. Of course, "As you wish," is from The Princess Bride. There are several other references to RomComs that are cheesy as fuck, yet adorable. See if you can catch them.

6:09 - 6:14 It is actually not a joke, the actors Ryan Renyolds and Rob Mcelhenney bought a 5th tier welsh football club, Wexham AFC in 2020. They have helped rebuilt the club, and the club just got promoted to the 4th tier of English football (called league 2). For reference, AFC richmond is currently playing in the 2nd tier of English football.

14:44 Thank you! "Whom" is just as much American English as it is British English. I don't find that 'joke' the least bit funny. Whereas 10:39 "elephino" is pretty good. When I watch Season 1 now, it feels weird to see Roy as a player. He just works so perfectly as a coach!

I co-stared in a beer commercial with Ryan about 25yrs ago 😂 I like to say that, I was an extra. He was doing a favour for a friend in Vancouver. We didn’t get paid. Ironically %wise more out of my pocket than his I’m guessing. If that makes sense.

That episode is amazing. Not only it is built like a rom-com, but it is full of rom-com references. You've Got Mail, Nothing Hill, Jerry Maguire, When Harry Met Sally, She's All That, The Princess Bride. So clever!

Roy Kent "You had me at _ _ _ _!" This RonCom episode was one of the best! Lexi, after the whole season was shot, Apple ordered 2 more episodes, totally. additional to/outside the production and writing of the planned for season... The first of these two 'extra' episodes was the Christmas episode you just reacted to. The second VERY, VERY, VERY UNIQUE one is yet to come!

The joke about British owls saying "whom" is an American vs. British English joke. Aside from the actual linguistic differences in dialect Americans have a perception of the British as being more concerned with correct grammar. Generally I think the word "whom" has fallen out of favor with Americans to just say "who" in all cases but a British owl is so proper it will still use "whom." It's a REALLY dumb joke. Seriously though, I barely have a grasp on where I would use "whom" outside of, "Whom should I say is calling?" (That's right, isn't it?)

A simple way is to answer the question with he or him (or she or her) and see which makes sense. "Who is calling?" He is calling, so who is correct. On the other hand, you could have a question like "To whom is this addressed?" It's addressed to him, so whom is correct.
