A New Cyclist Rest Area at Ludas & Róka Tanya // RECUMBENT TRIKE family vlog | Steintrikes Wild One

In this recumbent trike family vlog, we go for a group ride organized by Palic and Ludas Microregion Cluster, and we attend the opening of a new cyclist rest area at Ludas Lake (Ludasko jezero), near Subotica and Palic, which was built as a place that will serve cycle-tourists and hikers who are entering Serbia from Hungary, exploring Vojvodina, or following one of the Eurovelo paths that traverse Serbia: Eurovelo 6, Eurovelo 11 or Eurovelo 13.
As usual, we ride Steintrikes Wild One trikes in combination with a Croozer Kid for 2 trailer and a BTWIN kid's bike. The map showing the ride is at the end of the video :)

Very pleasant as always to travel in Serbia. David (do I remember correctly the kid's name ?) pedals hard and puts his heart into it! We used to live in the French countryside in very similar houses, even if the chimney was very different (the height of the rooms was also slightly higher in the XXth century!) The interior of this house is very similar to my grandfather's house in the then very poor region called Sologne in the 50s and 60s, objects, pictures on the walls, white mud walls, beds... I also find tools: the job of my grandfather and my father was to make wooden clogs (not only used in Holland!) and "galoches" (shoes made of wood and leather) which were still worn in the 60s in the country! A job for the future at the time 😁. Echoes and correspondences through land and time... Nice to see these meeting places for cyclists and hikers.

Thank you so much for the comment! It is amazing to think how people live(d) similar lives in different places and under different circumstances. There is always that something that connects them. For me it's always interesting to see the houses of people, I think this is the best souvenier of how they lived their lives... and I am also often amazed by some of the solutions they had. For example, I have seen these open chimneys in some other old houses here, but never in action - I cannot imagine how there was no smoke in the other rooms when there was an open fire in the fireplace 🤔 Oh and I believe that we crossed Sologne a few years back by following the Eurovelo 6 (La Loire à Vélo). I don't remember it as poor, but very beautiful part. Of course, it's not the same time period 😂

Thanks again for letting us join you on your adventures in Serbia. Great rest area. Even with showers? Is this so cyclist can camp here overnight on there journey on the Eurovelo? In Belgium we have a system called "Fietsknooppunten". It is a grid of numbered nodes with cycle paths in between. So you can create your own custom cycle tour by selecting a list of nodes. Sometimes (like in your video) however they are also narrow paths with high grass on both sides. Not much fun when riding a recumbent trike. And also not good for the derailleur because of the small wheel size it is very low to the ground and the grass get in the mechanism. Here in Belgium we have some open air museums (Fourneau St-Michel and Bokrijk) where you can visit lots of such old houses as in Rokin salas. I like to visit them. Most of the time I still wear wooden shoes when I am working in my garden. But they are getting hard to find. Fortunately they last many years. They keep your feet warm in winter and cool in summer. Maybe I should try to put cleats on them and try if they can also keep my feet warm while cycling in winter :-) David seems to do very well on his little bike. I think you should get him a Steintrike as well when he is a little older, so he can cruise along with you ;-) Keep it safe and stay healthy. And I'll see you in your next video.

The Fietsknooppunten (wow did I just succeed to write it correctly?) system seems great, I searched for it and it seems that there are so many points - it's amazing how some countries have a well-developed cyclist infrastructure. Unfortunately, we are in the beginning of the process, but we do see more and more investments into cycling infrastructure around here. This rest area has a shower, but as we understood it is not intended for camping, rather just as a stop during your day, where you can have a shower, eat, rest for a bit, get information, and then go forward. Although I don't think that camping is forbidden either. It would be very funny seeing a recumbent rider in wooden shoes - that would attract even more attention than just riding a trike - if that is possible! 😂 And for the derailleur, you are so right, I am always afraid that we will have some problems with them being so low to the ground on the 20" wheels. So far - so good! As for David, he is so happy riding his little bike, and in this ride he was also very proud that he could keep up with the others, which he showed by going to the front, without us, several times during the ride. When he's older we will definitely look for something to make the ride more comfortable for him as well!
