Old Disabled House Bound Dusty Rusty Rockhound here: The lapidary shop became a sacred space for me, and leaving it caused me to grieve. I physically left all my machines behind due to my poor health. Fortunately, you're moving on to bigger and better circumstances. I'm so excited for you, and congratulations on your new home. You'll have your lapidary feng shui set up in no time! (Watching you move that saw made my back hurt... I need some aspirin! Lol)

haha!! I guessed right!! Utah is amazing, man, been here 13 years; chose to get out on my own & move here at 22 and have never looked back. There is SO much great stuff here. I just barely spent 3 days around Milford going through old mines collecting copper minerals with my family. Got great Chalcopyrite, malachite, hematite, smokey quartz, flourite, and green garnets too on that trip that I'm pumped about. If you need another tattooed rock nerd friend in Utah, I'm here for ya! Congrats on the new place, I'm excited for you guys! -Geoff

Great tip on moving the big slab saw. I had to rent a machine to get my second hand 20 incher off my pickup and into my Rock Pit. The saw cost $500 and the rented machine added another $100 to my expenses. Still well worth it of course, but I won't have to do that again now. Congratulations on your new digs! I have a suggestion for your garage floor. Try pouring lightweight concrete like they use in commercial buildings. That way you can have a perfectly level slab. You might have to raise your door an inch or so.

Nice new shop congorats. Please no 1970’s orange peal texture; use skip trowel at least. Because the floor of the garage has the grading towards the door you may want to think about doing an over build floor over the slant of that garage floor. Should cost the same as an Apoxsee floor and will give you less headaches, and sore knees standing on the slanted floor; and less forgiving if you drop something. All you would need is 2x4 Sleepers with OSB flooring.

Hey bud!..Congrats on your new place!...southern UTAH??!!!!..HECK yah bud!!.im very thrilled that you finally get the shop you deserve. Lots of work to be done I see. If I can make one suggestion though. I noticed your drywall is from the old school method of using nails. I have dealt with this issue a million times in the past when I did remodeling. Unless you go through with a punch and a hammer and hit EVERY SINGLE one on the head to make sure they are seated all the way in, when you go to mud and sand all those, eventually they wiggle out due to hot and cold expansion and you will get what they call "Nail-pops". You will just lose your shit once they start popping out. Especially if you painted or coated the walls with whatever you do. My suggestion is to just remove all the old drywall, and every nail left in the studs. Install new insulation and hang 10ft sheets and screw them in. I say 10 footers because you can cover more area quicker than the standard 8's. With 2 ppl you can hang that area in one day easy. You could possibly even use 12's and will go so fast it's amazing. Then just mud and sand and primer. But I can bet the farm unless you check every nail on the old drywall, you will have nail pops, guaranteed. Other than that, I'm looking forward to seeing what you do with that floor! It's all going to look so dang good when done! I'll be in touch over the weekend. Congrats again bud!
