Al had a long rewarding life and left physical reminders of his passion for future generations to enjoy. Nice find you have there! When it comes to intarsia, I look back to the opus sectile and it makes me wonder how ancient Rome created such intricate work, with complex interlocking and repeating designs. Possibly a wire with abrasive slurry and patterns with a follower. The stones are thick enough for flooring with precise vertical cuts. No images of their machines exist but the style has endured through the centuries, so machines must exist today for the same purpose. Yet another rabbit hole to explore!

Thx for the post sir. That's a big drive but I understand the affliction.🤨 I remember a friend once helped me get a bull-wheel that just required a little 4 hour drive each way to Spokane a couple years back.🤔😉 Definitely appreciate the effort you made then and now! Thanks again for sharing your adventure. Have a great day!

I agree that it's definitely worth the drive to get great equipment! I've made trips from Tennessee to central Texas and New Jersey and still got great buys after factoring in gas and hotel. Added bonus - the adventure of seeing places I'd never been before! Always enjoy your videos!

I have stopped on the side of the road in the big canyon between St. George and L.V. and found all sorts of interesting stuff down in the wash that runs along the highway there. Love that area.

That is a great purchase Jared! It's also fantastic that you have the prints for some of the accessories. I've yet to start any intarsia projects, but I've put a lot of great materials aside, specifically for it. I'm looking forward to seeing some of your upcoming work! ✔️🥃

How fun, quite the road trip but a fantastic piece of equipment. We can see the joy it has already brought, and you haven't even had a chance to use it yet. I have recently had a major surgery and am still recovering, but I cannot wait for my weight restriction to be lifted so I can get back into it. I have acquired a couple new toys myself that are over twenty pounds I need to overhaul and locate functional living space for them in my shed. Only a couple weeks to go. I'm personally excited for you and to see what comes from it :)

I'd love to see more historic machines videos. I bought a 14" saw forty years ago and never used it. Now retired, I hauled it out and fired it up. A new blade and I'm in business. The only problem is that my saw was apparently built to a set of plans in Lapidary Journal and it has a hydraulic plunger powered by a garden hose to push the rock through the saw. I'd love to see the original plans so I can go about fixing the homemade ram and maybe, one day, I'll see one of these machines on your site. Carry on, sir, you're doing a great job!
@CurrentlyRockhounding

If you know the issue that they ran those plans, I can look them up for you.

The water tube of the original looks like a feeder tube for a gas-fired furnace the pilot light, they are very similar in color and I believe 1/4"
