58 gets a facelift and a new appliance added to the top of the locomotive. Plus a high speed run up the hill!

You could also add a small light on the front that illuminates the 58 sign, make her more photogenic after dusk. Also, i'd really like to see 58 pull a heavier load up that hill, like what she was build for originally. In my opinion, steam engines always sound better when going slow under load.

No. 58 looks very sharp! Love the addition of the safety striping, gives it a very industrial look, definitely hoping to see her in person in the future!

Still following your progress it has been quite a while since I have commented. I just wanted to say Rick .. what wonderful progress you have made . I really enjoyed watching 58 running around the yard and also up the new extension ... keep up the good work. I spent a lot of time around a Australian broadgage j class oil burning steam locomotive a few years ago. The smell of live steam and the sound are wonderful. All the best for your future plans. Geoff .

Great update! Nice to see the 58 in steam again! Are you aware of the special event this weekend at the age of steam roundhouse in Sugarcreek? It is a WW2 themed event. Unless I am mistaken, these Porters were made and used during WW2. I wonder if they would be interested in one of the Canadian ones in exchange for something they have, that you need/want?

It would be really cool if you guys could get the 58 trucked out to the maine narrow gauge railway they have up there for an event. Let her stretch her legs even more.

Would definitely enjoy a more in-depth video on the Pyle K2. Such an awesome gizmo that really revolutionized steam locomotives surely must be interesting enough for it's own video. The engine looks sharp with those stripes!

I know nothing about the generators -- saw the same two weeks ago when I saw UP 4014 in New Orleans (though they were cheating, with a large diesel in line). What are the specs on such a generator ? And redo of packing - you said you were going to order that -- from where does one order such things ? And what speed is "full speed" ? Agree, looks and sounds impressive. GREAT WORK ! Thank you for sharing !

Just curious… You mention that the one valve operates the lubricator. It appears that its a mechanical one. How is that tied in? I thought most engines have check valves after the mechanical.
@YoungstownSteelHeritage2 жыл бұрын
it sends steam to the lubricator to warm up the cylinder oil.

I apologize in advance as this might be a dumb question, but I see in your videos you were testing the engine by going back and forth on a short length of track. I might have missed it but is there a way to make a continuous run for people taking a ride on the train? Thank you for the really interesting videos.

@YoungstownSteelHeritage3 жыл бұрын
steam trap. The steam line that feeds that whistle up front has a steam trap on it to assure dry steam for the whistle. When that whistle was originally put in there was so much water in the line that it just blew water out of it for a couple of seconds before it made a sound.
