I find distinct advantages in using a mirrorless, including ease of use, ability to project it onto a large screen, and easy control of shutter speed. For those who own, or seek to own a mirrorless or a DSLR camera, a common question is, How do I use it to take pictures and video from my microscope? It frequently takes learning as much as we can and then hoping the system we've researched will actually work!
In this video I describe a couple pieces that have allowed me to get video and images from my Amscope T670 onto my Nikon Z6.

I'm glad you're sharing this. I'll share what I did, too. I also have a Nikon Z6. I use the FTZ adapter plus a "AmScope CA-NIK-SLR Nikon SLR / D-SLR Camera Adapter for Microscopes" that I bought off Amazon. Works GREAT. Any microscopy footage on my channel from mid-May 2023 onwards uses that adapter. It blows the dedicated microscope cameras out of the water.

Thank you very much!! I’ll definitely check out your videos! My other solution uses the same adapter as you use, if I remember correctly. I’m going to do a comparison between the two solutions using the Z6 and the lab cam, so you’ll get to see my “old solution”, which is still my favorite! Thanks again!!

Cobbled together... Don't feel bad. I think every hobbyist goes through that. When i started my journey i had microscopes that already had available adapters for M42 (Pentax screw mount) so adapting a camera was pretty easy. Ive been able to find a few M42 camera adapters for a few other microscopes ive picked up that work fine. Note: for those M42 adapters, i use a standard eyepiece to project the image directly onto the sensor. I have some old Nikon microscopes that have a proprietary camera mount system. For those scopes, i use a nikon photo projection eyepiece, but have the camera mounted in such a way that i use a "normal" lens (55mm is about right), as a "relay" lens to get the image to the sensor which actually works pretty well. I should add that i use a plumbing hose clamp to join the adapter and lens! Whatever works!

Wow! Such creative solution to the Nikon "problem". Thanks for writing!

@@zoominmicroscopy sometimes you have to get creative! I'm not a machinist so I had to use existing things available to me. Just in case anyone else is interested I should have also mentioned that I attached the photo tube using the plumbing clamp to a standard aluminium step up ring. I then screw in the lens to that ring. (I can replace the cheap step up ring if necessary - I'd hate to damage the lens.)

Thank you for your informative video. I have a Z6 but I own an Olympus BH-2 Microscope with a Binocular Head, does your setup work with my microscope? Thank you for your prompt response.

Cool video...i work in a pathology lab and occasionally take microscope photos by using phone camera pointed into ocular at a certain angle. Any idea if the Z macro lens pointed into ocular would work? Have been wanting to try, just never got around to it. While your setup is awesome, I'm not wanting to spend the $ for something I'll occasionally use.

The image actually looked really nice. But also very small. Even with the Nikon Z shooting at FHD and 4k, if we want the image at full view (ie, taking up all the space of the monitor, in a rectangular shape) would we loose a lot of resolution by having to crop from withing that small circle? Thanks for the super clear explanation in you videos. Very helpful!!❤

What is the diameter of the Motic tube that slides into the T670 trinocular photo port?

I'd like to buy a trinocular microscope and connect my Canon 80D to the top port for video work, while having it fill the entire frame (the least vignetting possible). Which magnification should my adapter have to achieve this?

The Canon 80D has an APS-C, and I’ve only had experience with my full frame camera, so I can’t provide an authoritative answer. Sorry.
